we found this stray dog outside our hotel on an indian reservation in kayenta, AZ (where we watched the red sox anihilate the yankees and win the world series) we were going to take him with us as our road dog. we named him duke. he had a messed up eye; looked like he got in a fight with something; and spent all night out in the rain. he was in sad shape. we fed him sausage and water from the continental breakfast and asked around if there was a shelter or a vet nearby that we could take him to. the only vet was a traveling one that came through every few weeks. the staff at the hotel thought we were crazy. we asked for a towel to dry him off. i guess stray dogs are a common thing there. binks tried to lure him into the van with some goldfish crackers. he ate the crackers but wouldnt get inside. we decided he was running a pretty good racket- preying on the sympathies of tourists, so we left him there. good ol' duke. i hope he's ok.
He taught me that the woods are best enjoyed at night. He is missed more than he could ever know.
Duke passed quietly, at home, on Nov 3rd 2010.
There was a private wedding going on, so I could not visit the interior.. This a must for my next trip to RTP
I love the pictures of the Chapel.

Alien and Uncle Duke seemed such a perfect fit that they've been sharing my bookshelf for many years. Duke came packaged with a book of Doonesbury classics. Created with fd's Flickr Toys.
This old Ferry has been beached off the River Dee near Mostyn in North Wales for years. I've been meaning to take a trip to see it up close for ages; this weekend I finally made it there.
