Auf kleinen Landstraßen geht die Post auch manchmal im Winter ab. Es ist ratsam bei entgegenkommenden LKW's schön rechts zu fahren. Aber nicht in den Graben "ausweichen" ;-)

My daily commute to work is a brutal 2.8 miles, but views like this along the way help keep it tolerable. This was on my way home Friday. The little white spots in the green field are great egrets.
Every year our fire department and food bank drive past every house in town to collect canned food.
Last year for some reason, they drove by so fast we couldn't get outside to give them food. This year, they stopped out front and passed food to a food bank van. The Grand-kids loved it!
I was talking to a volunteer and he said they thought this would be the last year the old firetruck would go out. They just can't find parts to keep it running.
As a kid, the Fire Department would come to our school in this very truck and take all the students on a field trip to the fire station. That was 53yrs ago for me.. Happy we got to see it running another year.
More 2 is better than 1. These are from driving around the one on the right is from when we went to patagonia lake and the one on the left is the sun thru a palm tree.

The Diane Drive-In opened in 1952, and could originally accommodate up to 300 cars.
It closed in 1981.

I learned to drive on a car just like this. A 1953 Studebaker Commander. I have always thought it was one of the most beautiful cars in the world. It was stick shift and so much fun to drive.
With the temperatures fluctuating - and ice fog moving in and out over our area - the roads have been a real challenge so far this winter. A little snow drifts down, then a little freezing rain drops in on top of it - and to top all of that off, you're driving along, and suddenly find yourself surrounded by thick fog and slow moving plows that are trying their best to scrape the accumulating ice from the surface of the pavement. Question is; . . when do you find the perfect spot to pass that slow moving behemoth?
Just another typical road trip during an Alaskan winter.
On a drive to find some fall colors today, we came across a field of sunflowers. They instantly got me in the mood to use my camera again. We had been hiking the trails a lot this past week and I relied on my cell phone for taking pictures since I still can’t carry much weight on my back. So this Sunday drive was a chance to give myself a break from walking and find something to shoot with my good camera. It was a perfect day to celebrate all the things we can be grateful for in our world. Wishing a peaceful Thanksgiving to everyone!
