After the theory exam yesterday and practical today I am now a qualified Puffing Billy locomotive driver.

Taken at a steam railway enthusiasts meeting in Tanfield in the north east, they keep these trains running on a three and half mile of track just as a hobby!

Yesterday (Saturday 23rd July 2016) marked the last day of step entrance operation for Blackpool Transport (if you exclude open top 857), as such Blackpool Transport allocated Volvo Olympian's 374 (M374SCK), 375 (M375SCK) and 377 (M377SCK) to service 1 alongside the usual mix of low floor stuff. 374-378 will now be withdrawn along with the remaining Mercedes engined Optare Solo's 277 and 279.
Thanks for the driver for leaving a bit of space from the car in front allowing this photograph to be taken, especially as this was the only real chance I had to snap one.

Today's jaunt was a long time coming. Inspired by several readings of a book called "Weekend Bus Driver" we decided to try and replicate the old North Western and Ribble X12 route from Manchester to Bradford. Our vehicle of choice was 4993UG, an ex Ulsterbus Leyland Tiger pictured here on the top of Saddleworth Moor on a snowy November day. I think we stayed pretty close to the route, but we were unable to find out exact route details so hopefully we did ok. Our next jaunt will be the X60 route from Manchester to Blackpool, so if anyone can give us any route details, we would be very grateful.

This enables visitors to be transported 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) downhill to Livramento through the streets at fairly high speeds in large wicker baskets, conducted by two drivers wearing the traditional white uniform with straw boaters.
