Saturday 6th July 2013.
East Midlands Trains Class 222 “Meridians” 222101 arrives at the Crofton Maintenance Depot of Bombardier Transportation, for repairs, hauled by 56312. The working was the 5Z56 09:50 Derby Etches Park Sidings - Crofton Depot.
The Class 222 had suffered fire damage on Friday 20th April 2013 when smoke was noticed by the driver and station staff coming from underneath one of the carriages on arrival at Nottingham. The train and the station were evacuated and the local fire brigade had to attend to extinguish the flames. There were no injuries.
The fire was caused by a turbo failing. This caused a build up of diesel and oil in the exhaust system which ignited and was unable to be put out by the engine protection system.

Scorpion was hand-drawn from the cover of Drive (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). I used Sharpie oil-based paint markers. I was able to get it down with 2 orange and 2 black markers. My nephew helped me out draw in the orange (child labor or family fun, you decide). My dad joined in the fun and added black detail on collar, waist-band and cuffs with black duct tape.

A walk round check of his bus, and the driver of this ECOC Dennis was ready for the off. This was taken August 1991 in the bus station at Cromer. The bus had the Plaxton Derwent II body fitted with the addition of dual purpose seating.
Driver boards for the ghostmatrix. On the right is the orginal driver board for the device I scavenged the linear stage from (some kind of protein assay autoloader). It has drivers for three stepper motor, only one of which I am using. On the left is a rotorboard, my custom AVR atmega168 prototyping board. It has a serial port to get data from a host computer, and generates logic control signals for the stepper motor drivers and sends serial data to the miniPOV light engine.
So I basically use the entire board on the right for two chips plus a power supply and a couple headers. All the brains are in the atmega on the left.
Hebron, Illinois - 8/13/21
A 63-year-old man riding in the passenger seat of a medical transport van was killed after the van was t-boned by an SUV in unincorporated Harvard on Friday, police said.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said they received a call around 11:45 a.m. Friday for a two-vehicle crash with injuries and entrapment at Alden Road and O’Brien Road in Alden Township near Harvard.
The Woodstock Fire Rescue District, Harvard Fire Protection District and Wonder Lake Fire Protection District were also called.
McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Aimee Knop said a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan was traveling westbound on O’Brien Road approaching a stop sign.
A 2012 Toyota Highlander was traveling southbound on Alden Road and did not have a stop sign.
The Dodge, for unknown reasons, pulled out into the intersection and collided with the Toyota.
The driver of the Dodge, an 82-year-old Rockford man, is employed by a medical transportation company and was transporting a customer, Knop said. He was not injured.
The passenger of the Dodge, a 63-year-old Harvard man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the Toyota, a 37-year-old Middleton, Wisconsin man, along with two juvenile occupants were all treated and released at the scene.
Seatbelts were used by the driver of the Dodge and all the occupants of the Toyota.
Alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

And this, if memory serves, is the hapless driver, surveying the damage. Poor bastard. And whatever Krispee was, it ain't in the phonebook anymore. In this shot, as in the first, you can see that the battery has been removed to prevent it from spilling acid either inside the engine compartment or onto the road. What's interesting about all this is that the truck is probably easily repairable. All it needs is a new rear assembly. The only question is – is writing it off cheaper for the Krispee Corporation than fixing it? My guess is that, purchased as scrap, this truck was soon repaired and back on the road. And the driver? Who knows? Even though an accident like this is a one in a million chance, people tend to get fired for these sorts of things.
A little bit of blur in this one, as the light was fading and the shutter speed consequently slow; this is, after all, Kodachrome (ISO of 64!!) and though it's a great film for colour, it's not fast.

Another official WMPTE photograph, this one dating from 1969, showing the driver’s cab of Daimler Fleetline 3913 (SOE913H). This is how the cabs appeared on these early WMPTE Fleetlines when they were new in 1969-1970.
Out of interest, the odd looking device mounted onto the window ledge, is the electo-mechanical passenger counter, which displayed to the driver, the number of passengers in the upper saloon. There was also a light display on the wall of the staircase, displaying information to passengers, as to whether or not there were seats available upstairs
The trigger mechanism for this device was mounted under two of the steps on the vehicle’s staircase. When foot pressure was applied to the steps, the counter's display would alter. The device was able to detect people going upstairs, or downstairs, by counting step-1, step-2 for a passenger going upstairs, and step-2, step-1 for a passenger descending the stairs. The problem was that once school children discovered this, they would deliberately stamp on the steps several times, causing the displays to give false readings. These primitive electrical devices were soon abandoned, however, most of the buses carried the disconnected staircase mounted light displays units until they were withdrawn from service more than a decade later.
These buses were also full-height vehicles, being 14' 6" high, this is painted on to the hub of the steering wheel. Later 'standard Fleetlines' were only 14' 2" high.

I'll let you decide if the reults are disturbing or not. My age category is 25-34, and my state is NJ. The test is 20 questions long. Apparently the answer key is wrong, because I only got a 95. ;)
