Sharpie Oil-Based Fine Point Paint Markers, 5 Colored Markers(37371)

Scorpion was hand-drawn from the cover of Drive (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). I used Sharpie oil-based paint markers. I was able to get it down with 2 orange and 2 black markers. My nephew helped me out draw in the orange (child labor or family fun, you decide). My dad joined in the fun and added black detail on collar, waist-band and cuffs with black duct tape.

"You can taxi it back okay, right?" Ben is in a rush.

I've just agreed to take an hour off then take the plane out solo for an hour for practice. I can hardly claim that I need help moving it from the fuel tanks to my parking spot. I give him a brave grin.

"I'll be fine, go sort out your next student."

He bounds away while I negotiate the paperwork of getting fuel, another first. I curse myself for becoming so reliant on other people. It turns out to be rather simple and I climb into the plane and glare at the instruments.

I go through complete checks as if I were going to take it to Japan. I want to be sure I don't mess this up. I start the engine. So far, so good.

My transit across the airfield is approved and I drive the little plane home. Except that someone has parked next to my parking space. Not in it, but next to it, in such away that I have to navigate behind them, between the plane and a large fence, to get to my spot.

I look around a bit, maybe they are about to leave. No such luck, no pilot near. I have just about decided to hell with it and I'll park over by the flying school planes, they can move me if there's an issue, when I notice three young guys looking at the plane. Watching me, as I dither and block up the taxi way trying to work out what to do, no doubt wondering what such a little girl is doing in so much Saratoga.

I look at my parking space again. It is totally accessible if I slip in between the plane and the fence; I can't fault the pilot's parking. It just looks like a very narrow gap.

I look at the young guys again and some irrational surge of pride swells up. I'll swing it right in, park it perfectly, that'll show them!

That'll show them, indeed. I pull around, keeping extra far from the other plane, not a chance of getting too near. I look at the fence and realise I've overcompensated: the left wing is dangerously close to the corner of the fence. I ponder for a moment, do I just go for it and pray? Of course not. I cut the engine and get out to look.

I can't carry on, the wing is going to clip the fence if I go straight in. Planes don't have reverse, I can't just back out and try again. The only option is to push it back but I know there is no chance I can get it to budge an inch on my own, I'm taking the engine up to 2000RPM to get it to roll forward on the grass.

I glance at the guys but they are now deep in conversation. Did they really not notice my dilemma? Or are they sniggering quietly? I look over at the flying school, wondering what the chances are of one of them helping me. At that moment, a very competent looking man strides towards me.

"Need me to move my plane?"

I wait until he reaches me to shake my head, no. "That's not going to help at this stage."

He grins. "No, it won't. What are you going to do?"

Various pitiful answers go through my head but I say, "I'm going to have to push it back," like this were within the realms of possibility.

He nods; I feel like I've passed some sort of test. I strongly suspect that if I'd burst into tears and pleaded for help, he'd have walked away.

"I'll help you," he says. I position us either side of the propellor and am about to push for all I'm worth when he hollers at the young guys still standing in the parking lot.

"Hey, give us a hand here."

They dash over. "Anything for a damsel in distress," my new friend says to me with a wink, and we all give a single heave and the plane rolls back and I'm clear for another go.

"I'll guide you in," he says as I climb back in. The three guys smile and wave and retreat back to the parking lot. I start it up and he guides me straight through the gap and into my spot.

"Nice parking," says one of the instructor as I walk into the school. They've watched it all through the picture window.

"One word about women drivers and I'll kill you," I say and head for the coffee machine. "Ben told me I could fly solo, he never said a word about on the ground."

The guys are still in the parking lot, chatting away. Not a snigger in sight. I consider that I'm my own worst enemy and retreat into my books.
