*** Hey! Wake Up. Welcome to Grand Rapids.

Please, slow down and enjoy our town.

I made a bumper sticker to help all of my good ds106 Friends avoid being rear-ended by all those drivers who aren't paying attention.

Here is a version if you have an older car ...

There is an animated version in the first comment below.

Went for a drive last Saturday, to a summer house at the roots of the Mt. Hekla, one of the active volcanoes in Iceland.

There is one particular stretch of the road where there have been many fatal car accidents in the last years.

In the year 2006 there were put up crosses along this stretch of road, one for each victim, both in memoriam of those killed but also to remind those who drive this road to drive safely.

I just had to stop on my way back, in the beautiful evening sun, and try and capture the mood there... please take a look at it in larger size...

FRANKFORT – July 20, 2012. Governor Pat Quinn today signed four new laws to improve road safety across Illinois by reducing speeding and distracted driving. The governor was joined by legislators, community leaders and families of crash victims to enact Julie’s Law, named after a Chicago-area crash victim, and several additional laws that restrict cell phone usage in school and construction zones. Today’s action is the latest by Governor Quinn to increase safety on Illinois roads and highways.

Car Accidents can happen to anyone at any point of time. While we can take all care to ensure that we do not do anything wrong, there is no guarantee that loss of life and damage to vehicle cannot be caused by someone else who has scant regard for law.

Sometimes it could be a genuine case of an accident – like a case of losing control when a tyre bursts or some critical part of your car malfunctions. While small accidents can be compensated by taking an affordable health insurance which covers cost of treatment or an automobile insurance which covers cost of damage to car – death or permanent damage can be irreparable.
