The colouring and adornment of the idols in Kumartuli locality of Kolkata has commenced as Durga Puja is just over a week away.In this case the hair,the jewellery and the weapons in the arms of the Goddess are still to be put on.
Come the month of Ashwina (Sept-Oct) in the Bengali calender and the Goddess Durga arrives in Bengal.The soft fragrance of the Shiuli flower perfumes the air and the whole state resounds to the sound of Dhak as Bengalis celebrate Durga Pujo..Beautiful clay idols of Goddess Durga are placed in gorgeous pandals and worshipped, the festivities lasting for five days..The Goddess is depicted as slaying the evil demon Mahishashura symbolizing the victory of good over evil.On thelast day of Vijayadashami the idols are taken out in a procession and immersed in rivers and other water bodies.
Now Durga Pujo is celebrated by Bengalis all over the world.
In Kolkata the idols are traditionally made in the locality of Kumartuli (Kumar-one who works with clay)

ps i'm not recommending any of these cookery adventures. they suit my personal taste. photographing to encourage myself to eat more healthily .

Not sure exactly what is going on in this scene; clearly some window dressing internally, however, what these three people have to do with what is going on inside the shop is anyone's guess. The Mannequin staring out (directly at me) adds a slight eeriness to the scene.
After a busy and rather stressful January in which my daughter and her husband contracted Covid, February is turning out to be a calmer month and they have both recovered well. I am just starting to dress regularly again. My outfit today is a short White Stuff skirt, opaque tights and a knitted top of course not forgetting my Mary Janes.
I had the first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine last week which I have to say was very well organised and the NHS should be praised for the speed at which they are rolling out the programme.
