Doubt sees the obstacles .
Faith sees the way.
Doubt sees the darkest night.
Faith sees the day.
Doubt dreads to take a step.
Faith soars on high.
Doubt questions, " Who believes"?
Faith answers..."I"

“For Children: You will need to know the difference between Friday and a fried egg. It's quite a simple difference, but an important one. Friday comes at the end of the week, whereas a fried egg comes out of a chicken. Like most things, of course, it isn't quite that simple. The fried egg isn't properly a fried egg until it's been put in a frying pan and fried. This is something you wouldn't do to a Friday, of course, though you might do it on a Friday. You can also fry eggs on a Thursday, if you like, or on a cooker. It's all rather complicated, but it makes a kind of sense if you think about it for a while.”

Eilean Donan Castle is one of the most recognised castles in Scotland, and probably appears on more shortbread tins and calendars than any other. It is, without doubt, a Scottish icon and certainly one of the most popular visitor attractions in the Highlands. When you first set eyes on it, it is easy to understand why so many people flock to its stout doors year after year. Strategically located on its own little island, overlooking the Isle of Skye, at the point where three great sea-lochs meet, and surrounded by the majestic splendour of the forested mountains of Kintail, Eilean Donan’s setting is truly breath-taking.
Following their arrival in the ample car park, visitors arrive at the bright modern visitor centre which houses the Ticket Office, Gift Shop and Restaurant. The entire operation is operated by the Conchra Charitable Trust which was established back in the 1980s by the MacRae family, who own the castle, and whose primary role is to preserve the building and its artefacts for the nation and future generations.
Crossing the bridge to today’s castle, the fourth version, you can clearly understand why Bishop Donan chose the tranquil spot back in 634AD to settle on it and create a monastic cell. The first castle was later established in the 13th century by Alexander II in an effort to help protect the area from Viking incursions. At this stage in history the original castle encompassed the entire island and is believed to have been constructed with seven towers connected by a massive curtain wall. Over the centuries, the castle contracted and expanded for reasons that still remain a mystery to this day, until 1719 when it was involved in one of the lesser known Jacobite uprisings. When the British Government learned that the castle was occupied by Jacobite leaders along with a garrison of Spanish soldiers, three Royal Navy frigates were sent to deal with the uprising. On the 10th of May 1719, the three heavily armed warships moored a short distance off the castle and bombarded it with cannons. With walls of up to 5 metres thick, these cannons had little impact, but eventually the castle was overwhelmed by force. Discovering 343 barrels of gunpowder inside, the Commanding officer gave orders to blow the castle up; following which Eilean Donan lay in silent ruin for the best part of two hundred years.
The castle that visitors enjoy so much today was reconstructed as a family home between 1912 and 1932 by Lt Col John MacRae-Gilstrap, and incorporated much of the ruins from the 1719 destruction. At this point the bridge was added; a structure that is as much a part of the classic image as the very castle itself.
Visitors now have the opportunity to wander round most of the fabulous internal rooms of the castle viewing period furniture, Jacobean artefacts, displays of weapons and fine art. Historical interest and heritage are in abundance with informed guides happy to share a wealth of knowledge. Extremely popular with families, a visit to Eilean Donan promises lots of fun for the kids whether it be swinging a Claymore, spying through the spy holes, lifting the cannon balls, gazing at the fearsome portcullis or exploring the ancient battlements. Wildlife surrounds the island too, with regular viewings of porpoise, dolphins, otters and birdlife. For those feeling particularly romantic, weddings can even be arranged inside the beautiful Banqueting Hall.
In short, there are numerous reasons why Eilean Donan enjoys such romantic and iconic status in the hearts of our nation and its visitors, but to understand what’s at its core you have to go and discover it for yourself.
I found this troubled looking extension cord at my barn. Feeling totally disconnected no doubt. :-) HMM!

Doubt that the sun doth move;
Doubt truth to be a liar;

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
Robert Frost
Once again I found myself up at Cowee Mountain Overlook along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I had intended to find a nice little spot somewhere in the mountains earlier, but as time drew short, the cloud levels continued to drop, I fell back into one of my favorite scenes. The clouds were rushing in and out of the valley, the humidity was making everyone uncomfortable... That's photography though, chasing light like a star struck groupie, fumbling the relationship more often than not... but sometimes, the stars align and you find some headway. [That may be the nicest way I have ever described chasing light.....] So, there I stood, having carefully, slowly setting up my equipment, prepping my exposure, watching the nearby photographers with their own array of gadgets and gizmos, and no doubt strong opinions on the same scene. Lots of laughter, lots of waiting... while I stood near my tripod, trigger in hand snapping shots every so often, tracking and waiting for these corpuscular rays to cut through the clouds in just the right way. Finally I had a few moments to grab the shot I was waiting on, just as a huge cloud came and filled the entire valley. That was it according to four of the photographers, no more light, the day was done 45 minutes till actual sunset, five before golden hour... But the rest of us stayed, perhaps not wishing to admit defeat, maybe convinced the light would return...

I can deal with hot, I can deal with cold... Humidity, and high winds though.... that's pure misery.
My favorite shots can be purchased here:
This old abandoned gas station is situated near the intersection of old US 75 and Interstate 45 on the north side of Madisonville. US 75 was supplanted by I-45 in the early 1960s south of Dallas to Houston. No doubt this old 1950s-1960s station served travelers on both highways.
Sun May 10 is Mother's Day for us. Each year my son hosts it for us and my daughter and her family. This year was planned differently because we are social distancing so we were going to meet in my daughter's back yard. But! Sunday will be 49F for a high and strong chance for rain...so..we moved it to the 17th when it's supposed to be 75 and sunny. Much better choice don't you think?!
This shrub rose is from last July and so the shrub/tree is not blooming yet, but I know exactly where I found it, between two towering neighborhood evergreens...a few seeds carried by the wind no doubt ...and voila, Pink Sherbet beauty!
Wishing you well this weekend, flickr friends.....Pat...xo
Every tear, every doubt
Every time you've fallen down
When you're hurting, feeling ashamed
When you're numbing off your pain
When you've lost your way
And feel so far away
You're not
You're beautifully broken
And you can be whole again
Even a million scars doesn't change whose you are
You're worthy
Beautifully broken
Every fear of being loved
For who you are no matter what
When you're stumbling,
And you're haunted by regret
And the darkness closes in
Just listen
You're beautifully broken
And You can be whole again
Even a million scars doesn't change whose you are
You're worthy
Beautifully broken
You're beautifully broken (beautifully broken)
You're beautifully broken
Not sure if an overflying bird is friend or foe, Green Heron prepares for a quick launch so as not to be Sitting Duck on Horsepen Bayou.
I came across the following poem when looking up snowdrops and it sums up the last week or so pretty well:
"I wonder if the sap is stirring yet,
If wintry birds are dreaming of a mate,
If frozen snowdrops feel as yet the sun
And crocus fires are kindling one by one:
Sing robin, sing:
I still am sore in doubt concerning Spring."
Christina Rossetti – from ‘ The First Spring Day’ (1830-1894) – English Poet
These snowdrops emerged on a hillside several days ago, which meant I didn't have to get down in the mud to capture an eye level view of them. They've since experienced heavy frost, snow, and rain, which left me in doubt about spring too - at least until today, which was finally warm and sunny.

We went for a rainy day drive on the weekend to this historical section of a city outside Toronto. The last time I was here was years ago when I bought a painting from a local artist. Do you ever feel a little breathless when you visit places that you haven’t been to in a long while? All these memories come flooding back. The near misses and what-ifs that occur in our lives, and the millions of decisions that we’ve made along the way that have brought us to this moment...
This historic building was the first thing to catch my eye when I stepped out of the car. At some point in the last ten years, the building has been painted this shocking shade of deep, bluish purple. I love that it matches my plaid umbrella (see reflection in upper windows). :) Handheld and under low light/rainy conditions, the images I took that day are not super sharp (does it matter?). But I like them well enough to share here. This is one of five. I hope you find something you like too. x
“All this isolation’s sinister
So be kind to yourself,
There will never be another you
There’s just nobody else that’s you!
You said, ‘Don’t let your heart give out’
No, I won’t let my heart give out
You said, ‘don’t let your breath run out’
No, I won’t let my breath run out...”

A Flower
Have you ever heard
of a flower that never needs
Water, soil, or sunshine?
A flower that stays in full bloom
Through summer and winter
Through good times and bad
A flower that rarely gets smaller,
growing endlessly.
A few lost petals,
A little droop,
but, without a doubt,
it will always regrow
into something more beautiful.
I have one of those.
I call it Love.

For some time I walked along the deserted port looking for "Life" when, to my amazement, I saw a small bar made of wood with Mexican decorations and a fish stall. There were some "Mojitos" on the bar, as if they had just been made, but what intrigued me was the absence of people in the place, and it occurred to me that something scared the people who were here and they had to flee.
I was tempted to grab one of those delicious looking "Mojitos" and drink it, as the many days I spent sailing the seas of SL left me with almost no food and drink, but I didn't. I didn't know how long they had been there, what they were made of, or what had happened that they were left on the counter.
The fish in the stall were fresh, as if they had just been caught and put up for sale, but on my approach to the harbor I didn't see any fishing boats, not even when I arrived at the harbor. I thought about picking some fish and leaving some Lindens as payment, but I thought the same way I thought about the "Mojitos" and I didn't after all. There was still a lot of sea to sail home and I could always catch some fish on the boat.
The wind was blowing from the West, and it brought me the smell of freshly cooked food, and due to my gastronomic experience of tasting traditional dishes in the ports where I stopped, my nose "told me" that it was Asian food. Almost at the bottom of the harbor I had seen a mini Snack-Bar with illuminated signs. The smell coming from that place activated my HUNGER sensors, my belly was asking for food... so... I decided to walk towards the Snack-Bar to try to eat something... when... I heard a meow not very far from the place where I was and as I approached the meow became more intense... there was no doubt that there... was life in that place.
To be continued...
We went to Fort DeSoto Park in St. Petersburg, Florida looking for the reddish egret and the white morph. I got this shot early in the morning. Brown pelicans are so common in Florida that I doubted I would even process it. However, when I looked at it, I liked it. I almost had to squint, just like I did when I took the shot. Anyway, here it is.

Always nice when you start a gray day on the road, and you drive along a lake, the sky opens up, and you see this!.
Norway, a stunningly beautiful country. Around every corner a chance for a scenic image, forcing me from time to time to stop every kilometer to get out of my car, sometimes with screeching brakes, and sometimes forcing me to curse because there was no place to stop.
Lovely valleys, bare mountains and cold winds, snow packs, glaciers, beautiful lakes, and then there are the enchanting fjords that never stop to amaze. The most beautiful country of Europe, for me no doubt about that, with only one minor aspect, which is the weather. During my month of traveling I only had 4 really nice days, the rest of the time clouds, rain, and very changeable! Still no regret, and I will go back to make even more than the 3500 pictures that I took this time.
Another very active vacation that took me to the south west up to Trondheim in a sort of triangle between Oslo- trondheim and Bergen with the whole route visible here (www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153668247101759&set...).
