When planning this hike, the point was to get this photo or something like it – so I’m content. Taken at sunset, we found some prime real estate (grass) to sling our tent onto, overlooking Holly Lake that sits at 10000-ish feet over sea level in the Teton mountain range. Even though Holly was right below the cliff – hidden from the camera view - you can still see Leigh Lake and Lake Jackson in the distance. I decided on this vantage point featuring the tent confined by cooled lava – you can find a lake anywhere. The mountain escaping through the right side of the photo was another deciding factor- With all the natural constraints (tree & rocks), I like that bit of freedom and conveying forward motion.
Later in the evening, as I sat on our complimentary granite countertop, I could see the vehicles driving thru Yellowstone. People on vacation. It's a wonderful thing to see. Some of them probably with kids, having a fantastic time - screaming at those damn kids, maybe pulled over at a scenic outlook changing some disastrous diapers, car trip fatigue - it'll be one of their favorite trips to look back on. There’s a lot going on in the World. Here’s the view from one of the billions of human moments at that time for your own unique comprehension. Life is a lot.

DoubleTree by Hilton foyer – our first hotel for this trip, at Higashiyama. We arrived from Kansai airport Osaka at about midnight. After a few days based here, we moved to the new Kyoto Hilton.

Cookies and Milk
I made these cookies using a 'copycat' recipe. I will remake using the authentic DoubleTree by Hilton recipe below sometime later this year.

DoubleTree Signature Cookie Recipe
Makes 26 cookies
½ pound butter, softened (2 sticks)
¾ cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
¾ cup packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 ¼ teaspoons vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 ¼ cups flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
Pinch cinnamon
2 2/3 cups Nestle Tollhouse semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 3/4 cups chopped walnuts
Cream butter, sugar and brown sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer on medium speed for about 2 minutes.
Add eggs, vanilla and lemon juice, blending with mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, then medium speed for about 2 minutes, or until light and fluffy, scraping down bowl.
With mixer on low speed, add flour, oats, baking soda, salt and cinnamon, blending for about 45 seconds. Don’t overmix.
Remove bowl from mixer and stir in chocolate chips and walnuts.
Portion dough with a scoop (about 3 tablespoons) onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper about 2 inches apart.
Preheat oven to 300°F. Bake for 20 to 23 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.
Remove from oven and cool on baking sheet for about 1 hour.
Cook’s note: You can freeze the unbaked cookies, and there’s no need to thaw. Preheat oven to 300°F and place frozen cookies on parchment paper-lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake until edges are golden brown and center is still soft.
This photo from my drone flights over a dry lakebed in the Mojave Desert reveals some of the complexities of the fractal stream channels. Some processing was done to tease out the subtle color differences.

Leeds has evolved a lot since I was last there. Also a chance to use the new 0.9 ND grad filter though.
Back to our holiday, and another view from the top of the Hilton Hotel! Here, you can see the A'dam Lookout across the River Ij, along with the Eye Film Musem. On this side of the water is the Centraal Station.

Disappointed that we couldn't enjoy the library's rooftop views, Perry decided to take us to another viewpoint, right at the top of the DoubleTree by Hilton!
Going to take some sunset shots I thought I was going to be disappointed because there was a front coming in and the sun was going to be behind the clouds earlier
in the evening. I went and found some great light and guess the rest of God's
wonders show in this beauty!!!!
