Every time we're at the lake, Miss Wool's becomes a major Wet Wild Woolly maniac.
Then looks at me quizzically, like , "What ?"
It's like trying to dry a wet doona with a towel.
Thank goodness she has her own methods.
Running around madly after this, is sort of her spin-dry-cycle, LOL ..

Only my second proper outing with the camera since moving home earlier this year. A couple of hours at Doona Nook are always worth it at this time of year, with the added bonus that today is was 16°C, sunny and dry. On my previous visit my fingers got so cold that by the end I couldn't open the camera bag to put my gear away.
The grey seals come ashore between mid-October and mid-December to give birth, breastfeed the pups for about a month, mate and head out back to sea abandoning the pups. Hunger eventually drives the pup into the sea, too.

My Journal entry from day one at a traditional Japanese hotel continues from the previous photo ....
Dinner done, I returned to my sparse little room to find a futon bed had been made up where the low table and floor level chair had been. These now stood to one side and against the wall. My room was centrally heated, was very hot and there was no way to regulate the temperature. In these furnace conditions, I opted to sleep on top of the doona that was spread over the futon bed.
In the absence of any other bedding, I opted to throw my kimono over myself and settled down to try and sleep. But first I had to deal with the bum burner toilet. As with all Japanese toilets, there are a dazzling array of controls attached to every toilet. In Tokyo the controls were labelled in Japanese and English, but not so in Ryokan. I had no idea how to turn down, or better still, turn off the toilet seat heater. I just knew it was blazing hot and needed to be extinguished.
Nishi San came to my room, and after pressing one button three times, the bum burner was quelled. The next challenge was getting onto and out of my rock hard futon bed that was just a few centimetres above the floor. With no supports or hand grips, getting down to the bed was one thing, getting up quite another. I brought one of the armchairs from the adjacent room and put it beside my futon bed. That way I could roll off the bed, get on my knees and using the armrests for leverage, raise myself to my feet.
It was impossible to get comfortable on the futon bed, even with a dooner under me. My poor old bones just seemed to be in conflict with the floor, no matter which way I lay. Eventually and in desperation, I broke out my emergency stash of Valium and soon drifted off to sleep.

This was my entry in Spoonflower's Maximalist Design Challenge. Channeling the “larger than life design elements” part of the suggested brief for the contest. I was really pleased that it placed 147th out of 810 total entries (with 109 unsolicited, verified valid votes, & 85 faves) - in the 1st third. Always aiming for the top 100 but this was the closest to that my entry has gotten for a looong time.

'Sunshine cheerful check by Su_G': my entry in Spoonflower's 'Cheerful Checks' Design Challenge. © Su Schaefer 2022 ~ with thanks to Sean Conaty for his excellent plaidmaker software. Along the way I wondered: where does a check stop and a plaid start? Some definitions have plaids as subsets of checks (my source is sewguide.com/checkered-pattern/), I bet there are some good arguments to be had on this subject!
I reused the strong colors from 'Sitting on Sunshine, Garden Party Picnic Blanket Plaid by Su_G': my entry in Spoonflower's 'Garden Party' Design Challenge - which itself sampled colors from my 'Parsley, Sage, Rosemary + Thyme by Su_G' (entry in Spoonflower's 'Vegetable and Herb Gardens' Design Challenge). Again, just like working with plaids, it's a lot harder than it looks to get a good result. But also enjoyable. :-)

The link for voting will be www.spoonflower.com/contest_voters_temp/new?contest_id=656 - open for one week only. A wide-open contest on the theme of cheerful checks, & my guess is for about 1200 entries. Wrong! It's ~1310 entries as I write this!

‘Pick Up Sticks by Su_G’: My entry in Spoonflower's 'Game Night' Design Challenge. (mockup c/o Spoonflower)

A game of nerves and manual dexterity! The object is to pick up the most sticks from a bundle that's been dropped in a close and tangled pile: the more tangled, the more challenging. In the version I last played the black stick was a special stick: once extricated you could use it to pick up other sticks. Different colours scored different nos. of points.
The link for voting will be www.spoonflower.com/contest_voters_temp/new?contest_id=574 - open for one week only. There are 518 entries so far. Voting could be fun - I've already seen tons of excellent designs!

Just gave Champaz his daily brush... Since December it has grown heaps.... He still has a few more layer to grow back, but he is still so soft especially on his belly, as i keep giving him lots of kisses... He went to the vets for a follow through appointment and the vet is very happy..... Now all i have to do now is save up some more money and get his teeth done, as him and Blacky need it done.... But he's a very happy boy these days and i'm loving it... cheers Michelle xxxxxxxx..

When i went into the bedroom tonight to get into my PJ's, Champaz was on the bed.... He's been on the bed non stop since we put the "Betty Boop" bedding on....And he was all fluffed out... Sadly Champaz is getting his matted fur back again... This time it's on his back legs and really close to the skin.....He's sometimes has trouble walking and when i brush there he hisse's at me.... So another shave for the summer, as he had the first one last December 2010......cheers Michelle xx
We are into the last month of Autumn here in Australia and finally the weather is beginning to cool down. It has gone from temps in the high 20s to around 19-20 C in a matter of a few days - too fast to get used to the changing temperatures. We have gone from having fans on during the night to putting the doona on. I will never complain about the cold weather though as I really despise our hot Summers.

'The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.' - Pablo Picasso
Given that I was spending most of my stay on the French Riviera with a friend, I decided to splurge a little and spend a few days on my own beforehand, in a beautiful waterfront hotel, the Hotel Napoleon, Menton.
The hotel was filled with all sorts of beautiful artworks and photography too, but one of the things I loved, along with the vibrant coloured feature walls, was this perhaps Picasso inspired bed head, which just happened to adorn my incredibly comfy and luxurious king size bed. (It was heavenly and conducive to an unrivalled three nights, of totally restful and peaceful sleep).
Call us indulgent soles (pun intended), but the red stilettos and I quickly found ourselves feeling right at home and very at ease here. Our visit, without a doubt, a very memorable and very inspiring one, especially with the red stilettos gaining quite a following here too.
After spending time here myself, it's not difficult to see why artists like Matisse, Picasso, and Chagall all spent here long periods of time in this region. They quite literally 'saw the light' and were drawn here by the luminosity.
Said Henri Matisse after arriving here in 1917 (for health reasons) - 'When I realised each morning I would see this light again, I could not believe my luck.' He decided to stay and fill his paintings with the generous Riviera sun. I now understand, first hand, why.
I also read somewhere that - 'The South of France is a vision as much as it is a place' . . . I couldn't agree more, as I felt mesmerised the whole time I was here, constantly having to pinch myself to believe it was real . . . it's a creative's paradise and one is easily inspired here.
As I continue to daydream about my days spent on the French Riviera and dreams of perhaps living there one day, I leave you with an additional quote from Picasso - 'When I haven't any blue I use red'.
