I'm a pretty libertarian guy by most accounts. But whining about your taxes without recognizing your use of the services they bankroll is some unaccountable BS.
If tea baggers want to draw half-baked parallels to the Boston Tea Party, that's fine by me. But the Gadsden flag stands for self-reliance, something precious few people in this country can actually claim.
Day 224:
Right about now I would normally be slowing down and spending my time staring
at the collect and wishing that 3pm would just hurry up and get here already so
that I could go home, but that won’t be the case today. Sheri has the last of the
respondents for the Radio study she did on Friday, so we’ll be working the nightshift
today. It’s not too bad so far. We had a nice morning, got to sleep in, watched some
tv, etc. Had no traffic to work and will have none going home after 9pm. So I will
keep this short as I have work to get back to.
Today’s photo was inspired by one of my favorite bands: 311
Since the year 2000, the band has held 3-11 Day celebrations (on even years) in New Orleans, LA (expect in 2006 where it was held in Memphis, TN due to Hurricane Katrina). Of course even on years that these particular celebrations are not held, we
fans still celebrate in our own little way. I have not yet been fortunate enough to go
to one of these shows, but I hope to some day. They typically play extended playlists. 2004 was there longest show, playing a total of 68 songs.
Well as the gummies saw me getting ready to celebrate, mostly by playing nothing but 311’s music today. They helped me do today’s photo by holding up a little sign.

Conceived by Commodore Hopkins in 1775, the 1st Navy Jack was originally used as a signal to engage the enemy. It has 13 alternating red and white stripes with an uncoiled rattlesnake emblem and the motto "Don't Tread on Me."
Since September 11, 2002, all U.S. Navy ships have been flying the 1st Navy Jack in the global war on terrorism.

The Gadsden flag is a historical American flag with a yellow field depicting a rattlesnake coiled and ready to strike. Positioned below the snake is the legend "DONT TREAD ON ME". The flag was designed by and is named after American general and statesman Christopher Gadsden. It was also used by the United States Marine Corps as an early motto flag.
Considered one of the first flags of the United States, the flag was later replaced by the current Stars and Stripes (or Old Glory) flag. Since the Revolution, the flag has seen times of reintroduction as a symbol of American patriotism, a symbol of disagreement with government, or a symbol of support for civil liberties.
Beginning in 2009, the flag became a popular display by protesters who are members of the Tea Party movement.

Sometimes a photo doesn't tell the whole story and such is the case here. The display of these flags are against US Flag Code if it was from the same structure. The US flag should always be flown above all others (with one exception) and the US flag should always be the same size or larger than the other flags displayed. What you see here is actually the flags from two different boats. The First Navy Jack and Maryland flag are hoisted on the mast of a Sailboat while the US flag is on the antenna of a power boat that is docked next to the sailboat.
