USS IOWA Don't tread on me jack. The jack of the United States of America is a maritime flag representing United States nationality flown on the jackstaff in the bow of American vessels that are moored or anchored. The U.S. Navy is a prime user of jacks for its warships and auxiliaries. "The jack is flown on the bow (front) of a ship and the ensign is flown on the stern (rear) of a ship when anchored or moored. Once under way, the ensign is flown from the main mast." On May 22, 2002, the U.S. Navy ordered all ships to display the First Navy Jack during the War on Terrorism.

Here is an early morning friend I almost stomped today. I took its photo instead, because I just happened to have my trusty camera with me. I carry it with me in the morning to capture any fantabulous sunrises I may have the great pleasure of witnessing.
Many of the libraries I've worked at over the years have a gecko population. At TCC a gecko family lived in the bookdrop. Once we rolled over one and the smell was horrendous for weeks until we located and removed the corpse. Gruesome!
TCU library also has geckos. One of the biology students said they were released after an experiment or some crazy story I can't quite recall right now. Library Gecko lore...it continues.
The Culpeper minutemen of the frontier territory of Culpeper, Virginia, fought for the patriot side in the first year of the American Revolution, and are remembered for their company flag: a white banner featuring a rattlesnake, featuring the phrases "Liberty or Death" and "Don't Tread on Me".
As a Ballmer fan, I was totally impressed by his recent photo of former Vice-President Dick Cheney and the ill-tempered and unpredictable leader of North Korea. I only wish that I could have made the trip. There are reasons I feel my presence would have helped reduce the tensions that the leader has caused, but perhaps next time.
What is important is that the meeting took place. You will see more intimate and personal photos of this poorly reported trip by going to the source. My opinion on the situation was banging on inside of my temples to be published, thus here's my view, opinion and advice for all involved, plus a compliment for President Obama. If this photo suddenly disappears, you will know that my friend Dick or Steve had reasons for pulling it, but they are both advocates of free speech, so I am not worried. Please read.

Rock Island
The Rock Island bought 67 GP38-2s in three groups which started arriving in 1976. Delivered in the Blue and white scheme, they arrived after the Rock had filed for bankruptcy, and this scheme was called by some "bankruptcy blue".
The first 56 units were named after friends of the Rock Island, prominent individuals, cities, and states, who worked with the Rock Island in their efforts to keep the railroad viable. Units were also named after "Railway Age" magazine, Trains magazine editor "David P Morgan", and "The American Railfan".
I photographed the "City of Blue Island" in August 1979, a few weeks before the clerk's strike, which was the beginning of the end of the Rock.

During a recent trip to Dauset Trails Nature Center, we saw lots and lots of these teeny tiny frogs along the paths where we were walking. There were times these little frogs were so plentiful we had to be extra careful where we stepped.
They were so tiny it was nearly impossible to see them unless they hopped to get out of the way. I tried to get shots of several of them but when they stopped moving they would blend in so perfectly with the ground they would practically vanish. And there were so many I was afraid to even get down on one knee to get a better angle.
Barely seen at Dauset Trails Nature Center.
**Not as sharp as I'd like since I was leaning over and pointing the camera in the general direction I thought he'd hopped to. :-)
The Gadsden Flag was used during the American Revolution by the first Corp of Marines in 1775. As the war went on, it's use became wide-spread throughout the Continental Army. It is essentially the "land version" of the 1st Navy Jack. It represents the Colonist's warning to the British Army: "DONT TREAD ON ME." Notice the tail of the rattlesnake - he has 13 rattles, representing the 13 colonies. This flag has been revived for the modern-day Tea Party Movement to bring back limited government to Washington.
By Chris Rudolf. November, 2009.
I usually try to be very respectful of other people's beliefs and try to spread goodwill rather than negativity, but I'm fed up with the damned Tea Party, which represents all that I find wrong about the current state of American politics.
In the area where I live in Virginia, it is possible to get a license plate with this "Gadsen Flag" which is actually a Revolutionary War banner that has been co-opted and perverted into a symbol of the Tea Party. I am often dismayed by how many of these plates I see on the roads and often wish that there was a good counter symbol. After a brief internet search, I was unable to find many that that I really liked, so I made my own!
You have a right to believe what you want to believe in. I feel that you can believe in this Tea Party crap and still be a generally good person, so if this offends you, don't take it too personally, it just means we disagree on this one thing, I still love you, I just wish you'd understand why the policies you support are so destructive. That said, it's not my job to try and school you on the error of your ways.
My posting this is NOT an open invitation to a debate, it is just me expressing myself. Experience has taught me that there is no greater waste of time than trying to get into a political argument with someone on the internet. It's not that I am unable to defend my position with facts and reason, I can do a pretty good job of that actually, it's that I simply don't have the time for it, and I doubt I will convince you I'm right or you will convince me that you're right. So let's not even go there, okay?
If you DO like this, then copy and make it go viral!
May 14, 2016 - United States Navy's USS Constitution is currently undergoing a multi-year restoration in dry dock 1. "From 2015-2017 Constitution is in dry dock for her first major restoration in over twenty years. This event is a unique opportunity to appreciate the remarkable structure of “Old Ironsides” and to see an active shipyard with preservation work underway" Charlestown Navy Yard.

We feel alone, in our belief, the media wants to paint us as extremist. I believe our majority is gaining strengh every day. Robert Reich calls us a group of of torturers, tea baggers, and tax cuts. He may be right, I say torture those that cut heads off their adversaries and fly planes into american buildings. A good tea party (revolution) is just what the country needs.
I'm experimenting with photo montages (now that I've finally figured out how to do them... duh) and so far I've done two versions of this one. Actually I've done 4 - I changed the previous (bw) version twice (though now wish I'd left well-enough alone, instead of trying to erase too much around the eagle's head. I left more intact on this one as you can see). I'm just severely frustrated about the flag though. I can't seem to figure out why part of it isn't in focus. I'm starting to wonder if there was a smudge on the lens when I took the shot...
And now that I've posted this, I'm still not satisfied with it. *sigh* I know it takes practice... but darnit, I want it right, now!! :)

The Gadsden "Don't Tread On Me" Flag flies outside the warehouses of family-owned In-N-Out-Burger in Baldwin Park, California. The Snyder family is well known for their evangelical Christianity and proselytizing through bible verses under their soft drink cups, this flag reaffirms their right-wing politically conservative values. While their contributions to right-wing movements such as the Tea Party and the election of White Nationalism Fascist, Donald Trump remain unknown, it is something to consider when spending six dollars on a #1 combo meal.
