One of the hallmarks of Donald Trump's impeachment inquiry has been the Republican's partisan approach to discovery, that is, to the facts of the case against the President. To many, these facts are clear. Donald Trump used his position to strong-arm Ukraine into investigating his political rival, Joe Biden. In addition, he obstructed the House of Representatives' investigation by not allowing key witnesses to testify, such as Mick Mulvaney, Acting White House Chief of Staff, Don McGahn, former White House Counsel, and John Bolton, former National Security Advisor.
The Republicans stated this was a politically-motivated vendetta against the President, perpetuated by Democrats, who, they said, wanted to impeach Trump from Day 1. Democrats saw it differently, not as a political move, but as a legal one: the President had committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" in carrying out the duties of his office. During the House's inquiry many public servants corroborated these details. But, rather than offer counter evidence, the GOP simply focused on the procedures of the investigation. Why? Perhaps it was because they didn't have any evidence to the contrary. We can speculate, but this seems to be the most obvious answer. If members of Trump's staff had any details that offered alternate explanations, why weren't they allowed to testify?
It seems likely, the House will vote to impeach the President. But, it also seems likely the Senate will not vote to remove him from office. Again, the vote will fall directly on partisan lines. Republicans, who are the majority in the Senate, reject the veracity of this impeachment. And, they reject even considering the evidence. Yet, Senators are jurors in this impeachment trial. And, like jurors in criminal or civil trials, they take an oath to "do impartial justice according to the Constitution and laws."
However, Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has already stated, "I’m not trying to pretend to be a fair juror." So much for impartiality. Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell, has publicly stated he is working directly with the White House in orchestrating the probable Senate trial. In addition, he has rejected efforts by Democrats to bring in members of the White House administration as witnesses. Donald Trump has stated the process is unfair because he can't defend himself. Yet, he refuses to allow his staff to testify. So Trumpian.
This partisan divide is very different than the bipartisan approach taken during Bill Clinton's impeachment. Then, Senate leaders Trent Lott (R-MS) and Tom Daschle (D-SD) "made a concerted effort to protect the integrity of the Senate and negotiated a bipartisan proposal that had the unanimous backing of the chamber on some parameters of Clinton’s trial." Many questions remain. Why didn't the GOP produce evidence that would exonerate President Trump? Why are they doing everything they can to suppress anyone's testimony from the White House? What are they hiding and what are they afraid of? And, most importantly, why are they ignoring the mandates of our Constitution, which they swore to uphold?
Americans deserve to know the truth. And, rather than let all the evidential pieces fall where they may (whether Trump is innocent or guilty), we are being denied the opportunity to see this come to a factual conclusion. The Republicans have made this Constitutional procedure into a farce.

This President is contradictory.
This President does not Negotiate, on anything and with anyone,
They chose a President they didn't know.
Yes, I know. You think I am an evil human being. I had no idea my little mantra, which was going to be placed front and center on a Tee Shirt, would actually come to pass, sort of, on the morning of October 2, 2020, with the announcement that the First Couple of the United States had tested positive for COVID-19.
With trumps death from natural causes, I surmised we would never have to hear that raspy, cloyingly annoying voice ever again bullying, insulting or humiliating anyone. Never again be told lies, half truths and conspiracy theory laden statements to create fear in those who are wont to believe his sort of trash. At least, those were and still are my thoughts. I certainly wouldn’t want another human to harm him, as then he would become a martyr to his cult, a Jim Jones of politics with statues erected in the parks of small towns in every red state. (Insert vomiting sounds here!)
To me, it’s absolutely appalling to see the people who are usually publicly condemning him, other politicians, media people and so, so many of us ‘little folk” on social media who are shocked and sickened by him, his actions and the vast lies he tells, the dastardly deeds he does, the illegalities, financially and constitutionally, he is alleged to have made and the threats he continues to make, appalled that those same people are now ‘sending their prayers’, ‘best wishes for a speedy recovery”, ‘healing thoughts’ and other sappy Hallmark sentiments while you know damn well they are muttering under their breath, ‘Die, Die You Motherfucker’. But I understand their predicament. Being public figures they don’t want a backlash on their careers, their place in government or their particular religious beliefs on wishing someone dead. Me, I have no such boundaries. I do not subscribe to any past or present mythologies that cloud my logic as to what is right and what is wrong. And trump is wrong. Dead wrong.
I am not evil. In fact, based on what others think of me, I am a very good person. A nice person. Caring, kind, very aware and very respectful of the natural world around me and the life that is in it. I’m also aware that Donald J. Trump is the most dangerous threat to Democracy and freedom that this country, the United States of America, has ever seen. If Mother Nature does decide to eliminate that threat on a permanent basis, I’m all for it and am cheering her on. Rah-Rah Mother Nature! But I’m not holding out hope that she will permanently remove him from this mortal coil. With all the help and medical support anyone could wish for, I’m sure he will make a total recovery…..UNLESS…….
Being the consummate liar that is trump, it wouldn’t surprise me one iota to discover he is not really COVID19 positive. That he is totally faking it, creating another sham to avoid having to deal with another debate debacle, or maybe just a show to gain sympathy from his cult to gain votes from those who may have been swayed a bit with his White Supremacy support or his tax evasion or the fact he is the main reason for the misinformation circulating across the US regarding COVID19 along with his downplaying of the disease from the get go; even though he knew full well how dangerous and deadly it was, he thereby condemned to death thousands more people who may have survived if proper precautions had been taken early on instead of being ignored or mocked. Only time will tell.
I do hope Melania totally recovers from her symptoms, if she, too, really has them. I wish no ill will on her. I believe she had no idea what she was really getting into when she met trump, getting in far over her head, flailing and floundering ever since she preceded him down that golden escalator of the trump Tower. Almost as though she was being escorted by Satan himself on her way down to Hell.

In a world of alternative facts, lurking just below the surface lies The Deep State.
Donald Trump constantly invokes the Deep State as the source of the "witch hunt" he calls the House of Representatives' impeachment inquiry. According to Wikipedia, Deep State refers to "a conspiracy theory which suggests that collusion and cronyism exist within the US political system and constitute a hidden government within the legitimately elected government." Trump thinks there are people within the government who are out to get him and have been since his election.
The president may not be wrong. However, he is mistaken when he accuses Democrats as the source of this hidden government. Instead, it is his actions that constitute this Deep State. When he said to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, "I will have Mr. Giuliani give you a call and I am also going to have Attorney General Barr call and we will get to the bottom of [Joe and Hunter Biden's alleged involvement in Ukrainian politics]," he was telling Zelensky that Trump's personal attorney and his Attorney General would be getting involved in his personal vendetta against a political rival. Barr has also approached UK and Australian intelligence services to help disprove the FBI'S and the CIA's assertion that Russia interfered in our 2016 election. The Justice Department is soliciting evidence from foreign intelligence officials to discredit our own intelligence services. In the president's eyes, this accusation delegitimizes his win. By doing this, he puts his own interests ahead of the country's and places our national security in jeopardy. It is Donald Trump's deep state that has spurred the House's impeachment investigation.
While cries of "witch hunt" increase, the GOP's bar to impeach keeps changing. First, they said there was no quid pro quo in Trump's phone call with Zelensky. They attacked the whistle-blower as partisan and his concerns as secondhand. However, now that Trump-appointed officials, such as Bill Taylor, former Ambassador to and our present chargé d'affaires in Ukraine, and Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman, who listened to the call, are corroborating the whistle-blower's account, Republicans are starting to admit there might have been a quid pro quo, but say this isn't an impeachable offense. Where will this end?
This is a political blockbuster in the making. John LeCarré, Tom Clancy, and Richard Condon couldn't have written a better political thriller.

Donald Trump is the president-elect of the United States of America, and he did it by completely blowing up the electoral map and all of our projections and expectations of it.To wit: Trump won his “must-win” states of Ohio, Florida and North Carolina in races that were called on Tuesday night.
He won his other apparent “must-win” state, blue-leaning swing state Pennsylvania, which was called for Trump early Wednesday morning. Not stopping there, he won at least one and possibly two states in which he didn't even campaign until the final week of the 2016 election: Michigan and Wisconsin. These, like Pennsylvania, are states that have long eluded the GOP's grasp and didn't seem likely to be winnable for Trump.All of this disproves the idea, which we and everyone else have espoused early and often, that Trump's path to victory was narrow. It wasn't. It was broad. We were wrong. The polls were wrong. We fundamentally misunderstood this election. We thought Hillary Clinton might be winning red states. But Donald Trump won blue states.It was looking like he had to win Florida, Ohio and probably both Pennsylvania and North Carolina. He won all four, but he didn't even need to. Trump's win in Wisconsin and apparent victory in Michigan (where he leads but the AP hasn't made a call) are just the icing on the cake at this point. It looks like the electoral college won't even be close.Tuesday morning, we ranked four possible Trump paths to victory, with each of them going through Florida and Ohio at a minimum. Giving Trump Michigan or Wisconsin was the least likely of the four outcomes, and we assumed only one of them might flip. It was considered unlikely, but worth entertaining.But if you gave Trump either Michigan or Wisconsin, getting to 270 was much easier. And indeed, as they came on to the board Tuesday night, Trump's odds of winning the presidency skyrocketed. He suddenly didn't need to win Pennsylvania anymore. He just had to add Florida, Ohio, North Carolina (all three of which are now won) and Iowa and Michigan to win. If he took Wisconsin rather than Michigan, he'd need to add either New Hampshire to get over the top, but that's looking increasingly very doable;Trump won all of his “must-win” states, anyway, and then added some states that we barely gave him a chance in, proving that everything we thought we knew about the polls and the electoral map was wrong. Wrong, wrong wrong.Here's where we currently stand, without even including Michigan as a likely Trump win. Trump is at 276 electoral votes; Clinton is at 218.

The Donkey— Presidential candidate Andrew Jackson was the first Democrat ever to be associated with the donkey symbol. His opponents during the election of 1828 tried to label him a "jackass" for his populist beliefs and slogan, "Let the people rule." Jackson was entertained by the notion and ended up using it to his advantage on his campaign posters.
But cartoonist Thomas Nast is credited with making the donkey the recognized symbol of the Democratic Party. It first appeared in a cartoon in Harper's Weekly in 1870, and was supposed to represent an anti-Civil War faction. But the public was immediately taken by it and by 1880 it had already become the unofficial symbol of the party.
The Elephant— Political cartoonist Thomas Nast was also responsible for the Republican Party elephant. In a cartoon that appeared in Harper's Weekly in 1874, Nast drew a donkey clothed in lion's skin, scaring away all the animals at the zoo. One of those animals, the elephant, was labeled "The Republican Vote." That's all it took for the elephant to become associated with the Republican Party.
