My friend Saign Charlestein is a metal smith and he built a Dr. Doom costume for a client. I had no idea who Dr. Doom was/is, but yesterday I took a few hours out of my day and took photos in the rain. It's a bit different than what I normally do, but it was fun. Enjoy!
This is the cover the first issue of Mike Weiringo and Mark Waids "Unthinkable" story arc in Fantastic Four. It ranks high in my "all time favourite single issues of any comic" list.
This cover just grabbed me immediately. At the time I couldn't name a single artist or writer working in comics. I was relatively fresh on the comics scene, especially up-to-date US stuff. Essential X-Men and Spectacular Spider-Man, the European reprints of US comics, were up to four years behind their US counterparts.
I fell in love with this art style as soon as I read this issue. It was bright, colourful and cheery, it had chunky fingers, cartoonish faces and minimalistic line usage. As Victor wandered around the small village, I almost expected the sun in the background to have a big-eyed, smily face!
I loved it. It was everything I wanted in comics that I felt had been lost for a while now. The X-Men I was reading were wearing dark leather outfits. Everything was black, navy or grey. I liked the art direction of the Onslaught Saga, Joe Madureiras style, and Mikes art sufficiently similar to catch my attention, but distinctive enough that I could compare both and agree that this was my style of choice.
Magneto, Doctor Doom, & Spider-Man (in the Scarlet Spider costume) posed before heading off to fight one another.
