Despite rain and cold, around 50 protesters gathered by the Octavius Catto statue by Philadelphia City Hall on Dec. 9, for a rally and march marking the 43rd anniversary of the state’s unjust and illegal incarceration of Pennsylvania political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal.
Several speakers addressed that the struggle to free Mumia and other political prisoners coincides with the upcoming battle of progressive activists against the reactionary administration of Donald Trump, which threatens more state terrorism.
The demonstration marched a short distance to the offices of Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner where speakers called on the DA to do the right thing for Mumia by granting him long-denied freedom. They addressed the racist police, judicial and prosecutorial misconduct that resulted in Mumia’s incarceration, despite ample evidence of his innocence, and the unjust ruling in May 2023 by Common Pleas Court Judge Lucretia Clemons who refused to consider new evidence found in the case.
Protesters then took to the streets to march to 13th and Locust streets where Mumia was arrested and brutalized on Dec. 9, 1981, and unjustly accused of the murder of Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner.
My first walk in ages, one evening last week before tea, and I took the camera. Why did I do it? It weighed me down a little. Really need something lightweight if I'm ever going to do that again, because it gave me a crick in my back when it was stuffed in my pocket!
I love purple and green, and like it if I can find it outside strictly nature/flower combinations, which most of the images in the purple and green group are. I know this isn't a great shot, but I liked the colour, in both the foreground and background.
I suspect these people didn't do the right thing regarding preparing their rubbish for the recent hard and green waste collection, which is why their rubbish is still sitting out in the street, and voracious weeds are beginning to grow up over it.

Green is our past.
I'm going to tell you this: “Our Future is White!"
.
Even though I have currently discovered my love for green in terms of fashion, the colour in terms of climate protection remains "white"!
.
However, if you think of climate protection, keywords like climate neutrality, sustainability and the colour green probably come to mind. Green is always good. Green is our common planet, at least in some places.
.
Green stands for life, the future, plants, food, fresh air, ergo: less Co2.
.
Green has always existed, and always has. Climate change and the resulting rising temperatures, Co2 emissions, which serve as a time machine for evolution, can become "neutral" again through even more green. Agreed!
.
But the question is, is that enough? Is looking into the past really the key to the questions and problems of the future? Or can we only derive partial answers from it? Is it enough to become or be climate-neutral, or is it necessary, with global warming rising so fast, with all its ecological, social and economic consequences for our flora and fauna and thus also for the habitat for us humans, to do more than just more green, less Co2 and a "climate-neutral" industry?
.
I say no!!! - The buzzword of the hour is "active global warming reduction"! Because neutrality would have been needed by our planet already 20 years ago to remain in its natural balance.
.
Now our common planet Earth needs effective reduction! - And this is called "white"!
.
"White" is the new green and does not simply stand for neutrality, but for active reduction, with the same tricker factors. The colour "white" helps our Earth to actively cool itself down, independent of external factors that contribute to warming!
.
I'm going to tell you this: "It's time not just to do something!"
I'm going to tell you this: "It's time to do the right thing!"
I'm going to tell you this: " "White" is the new science-based word of the hour, of the climatic future!"
.
Even though I personally like to go for shades of green in fashion matters. More on that from me in this space shortly!

Grün ist unsere Vergangenheit.
Ich sage euch: „Unsere Zukunft ist „Weiß“!“
.
.
Jetzt benötigt unser gemeinsamer Planet Erde effektive Reduktion! - Und diese heißt „Weiß“!
.

Though she and her husband made a historic pledge to Carl Sandburg College last year, Tracey Moore Baker hadn’t set foot in a building here in decades until last week.
During a campus tour April 5, Moore Baker marveled at the physical transformation of Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg since she graduated from the nursing program in 1985. But what struck her most about the campus were the developments in technology of how instructors teach and students learn.
“The advances you guys have made were astonishing to me,” Tracey said, “It just really made me feel like we are doing the right thing with Carl Sandburg College.”
Tracey and her husband, Mark Baker, took part in a signing ceremony Tuesday at Sandburg to formally commemorate their seven-figure estate gift, the largest planned contribution in the College’s history. They want their donation to have a particular emphasis on assisting first-generation college students with needs such as tuition, books, housing and transportation. The objective of their gift is to eliminate any impediments to getting an education.

An interdenominational prayer service conducted by religious leaders from major faith traditions that called for politicians in Congress to consider the moral implications of the approach to healthcare and the damaging effects the repeal of the ACA would have on low-income people, those with disabilities and the elderly.
Following speeches and the prayer service, a processional complete with musical accompaniment and gospel-like hand-clapping and singing, made its way out of Chicago Temple, past the Daley Center and finished outside the Thompson Center where more speeches were made and another prayer vigil was held. The demand went out to Governor Rauner to do the right thing - the moral thing - and speak out against Republican attempts to take health care away from millions of the most vulnerable members of our society.
