Though she and her husband made a historic pledge to Carl Sandburg College last year, Tracey Moore Baker hadn’t set foot in a building here in decades until last week.
During a campus tour April 5, Moore Baker marveled at the physical transformation of Sandburg’s Main Campus in Galesburg since she graduated from the nursing program in 1985. But what struck her most about the campus were the developments in technology of how instructors teach and students learn.
“The advances you guys have made were astonishing to me,” Tracey said, “It just really made me feel like we are doing the right thing with Carl Sandburg College.”
Tracey and her husband, Mark Baker, took part in a signing ceremony Tuesday at Sandburg to formally commemorate their seven-figure estate gift, the largest planned contribution in the College’s history. They want their donation to have a particular emphasis on assisting first-generation college students with needs such as tuition, books, housing and transportation. The objective of their gift is to eliminate any impediments to getting an education.

Yesterday, I had the honor of seeing Erykah Badu and Mos Def at Spike Lee’s Brooklyn block party, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of Do The Right Thing.
I have to admit, I was a little surprised when the clerk at Motel 6 ("Columbus East" location) did the right thing and gave me this gift certificate for a free night's stay because of the problems with my room the night before. (details here.) Bravo!
Customer service and satisfaction. What a concept! Now if I could just get Mother Nature to refund my gas costs due to all the rain I had on this trip, I'd be all set. ;-)
I normally stay in small "mom-n-pop" motels when I'm travelling, but if I can't find one, it's too late at night or I just don't feel like inspecting rooms first, I find Motel 6 (or Super 8) to be adequate and cheap, and pretty consistantly OK.
I went to see Spike Lee talking about his work and "Do The Right Thing" Awwweesome movie. That was a really cool day :)
Long day. I want to bang some heads at work today! I seriously cannot understand people who do not know how to do the right thing or choose not to do the right thing. UGH
I hate this glass. My friend got me two Spam wine glasses as a joke. My husband has adopted them. I wonder if it is just because it honks me off. We have a wonderful collection of fantastic wine glasses. I probably have a wine glass just for Boones Farm for all I know. Yet he chooses the SPAM glass. Gotta love him.
All my life I have gotten up on Sunday morning to get ready to head down to the church house. It was a place I felt very at home and comfortable in. I did not always agree with everything that was said,but it was "the thing to do and place to be" Well when I left home we all know how that effected my relationship down there. Before that time I was just always so thankful I had the church to turn to. Now none of those folks whom I had thought were friends for over 20 years are.
I have given this so much thought. Every emotion has flowed through me it seems. Did I do the right thing? Should I have just stayed? What will this person or that person think? My kids? Heck 3 of them are adults. Did a lifetime of the church house brainwash the kids? Well yes it did duh! When you go to a church and the say vote Christian thats a pretty good sign. The others in my particular case have been talked about here before.
Well this morning I woke up early and worked out and as I was I thought I do have alot to be thankful for even through this. Two of my children CHOOSE to see me all the time. I do have some amazing people in my life. People who will care about me from now on. People who love me for me. Not for what I make. What I say. Who I vote for. For me and who I am. People if you have that trust me you have more than most will ever come close to having.

I think he was safe there....but all the while i was thinking whether what i was doing was right, in the sense photographing him as he was wounded.....now when i think i feel i shouldn't have taken the picture.....

Did i do the right thing by photographing him? This may not even be a big deal when compared to photographers and videographers who capture hunt on film, i know is a tough thing to overcome....but this is also some thing similar in my opinion.....

She was a kitten who really didn't stand a chance. Someone didn't do the right thing and so she was born with a whole other litter of kittens who shouldn't have made it. Someone couldn't find a shelter to take her, and so they dumped her (and three others) on the side of a road. Someone couldn't put compassion aside, and so their parents helped them when they should have said, "No." Someone could have been "roadkill" by now, but that someone is leading a pretty pampered life right now.
