Rabbits, are small mammals in the family Leporidae (which also contains the hares) of the order Lagomorpha (which also contains the pikas). Oryctolagus cuniculus includes the European rabbit species and its descendants, the world's 305 breeds of domestic rabbit. Sylvilagus includes 13 wild rabbit species, among them the seven types of cottontail. The European rabbit, which has been introduced on every continent except Antarctica, is familiar throughout the world as a wild prey animal and as a domesticated form of livestock and pet. With its widespread effect on ecologies and cultures, the rabbit is, in many areas of the world, a part of daily life—as food, clothing, a companion, and a source of artistic inspiration.

Although once considered rodents, lagomorphs like rabbits have been discovered to have diverged separately and earlier than their rodent cousins and have a number of traits rodents lack, like two extra incisors.

A forest scene like this always makes me think of Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken".

Perhaps it was a similar Autumn scene that inspired Robert Frost to write The Road Not Taken.

I took the high road which takes me on a long loop back to the forest entrance. The forest is in gorgeous Autumn colour.

The Road Not Taken

By Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Poking around Photoshop tutorials does seem to eat up lots of time, but then what else shall I do : )

One from the archives with a bit of editing.

The Audubon's Warbler is closely related to its eastern counterpart, the Myrtle Warbler, and at various times the two forms have been classed as separate species or grouped as the Yellow-rumped Warbler. The two forms probably diverged when the eastern and western populations were separated in the last ice age. In North America, the two forms are officially recognized as belonging to, the same species.

Audubon's Warbler has a westerly distribution. It breeds in much of western Canada, the western USA, and into Mexico. It is migratory, wintering from the southern parts of the breeding range into western Central America.

The summer male Audubon's Warbler has a slate blue back, and yellow crown, rump and flank patch. It has white tail patches, and the breast is streaked black. The female has a similar pattern, but the back is brown, as are the breast streaks.

The breeding habitat is a variety of coniferous and mixed woodland. Audubon's Warblers nest in a tree, laying 4-5 eggs in a cup nest. These birds eat insects but will readily eat berries in winter.

Even though the magic of birds singing and flowers blooming and green returning is still happening this spring, somehow this celebration of nature seems muffled this year by the pall of pandemic. I still admire the beauty of spring, but my heart is going out to all those who are suffering - may Heaven help us all ...

"We stand now where two roads diverge. but unlike the roads in Robert Frost's familiar poem, they are not equally fair. The road we have long been traveling is deceptively easy, a smooth superhighway on which we progress with great ease, but at its end lies disaster. The other fork of the road - the one less traveled by - offers our last, our only chance to reach a destination that assures the preservation of the earth."

~ Rachel Carson, "Silent Spring"

It's starting to "look a lot like autumn".

Inowrocław is a city with a population of almost 75,000. residents. One of the oldest Polish cities, founded in the years 1231–1267. Already in the 11th century, this area was quite a dense settlement complex, probably associated with the oldest salt works.

The strict city center is typical of towns founded in the Middle Ages. The central square is a rectangular market square with streets diverging from it. Most of the tenement houses existing at them date back to the 19th century. On the developed market square there is a modern fountain and a figure of Queen Jadwiga, the patron of Inowrocław.

-

Due to my health condition, I am unable to hold or stabilize a camera for extended periods of time. Additionally, using a tripod has never been enjoyable for me, as it would cause pain when trying to position it correctly and constantly bending over to check the viewfinder. Consequently, I have chosen to explore digital AI artwork as an alternative. I understand that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, as it diverges from traditional photography. However, I have always granted myself the freedom to exercise artistic license and pursue whatever brings me joy. Currently, digital AI artwork fulfills that purpose, at least for the time being.

Inside the Horizon, Artwork by Olafur Eliasson

"Like a giant kaleidoscope, Eliasson's work is composed of forty-three prism-shaped columns of varying widths, which are placed along the walkway in the Grotto around the pool. The columns are illuminated from the inside. Two of the sides are covered with mirrors and the third is covered in a yellow blown-glass mosaic. Visitors are invited to walk amongst them, activating an endless interplay of reflections."

I am always amazed by the different lines and patterns one can find in winter on the mountains. This image was taken near to Faltegartenkögele, Austria 2021.

Took a quick panorama when I arrived at Bungan Headland on the north side of Mona Vale Beach. It was daunting watching the huge, dark clouds heading our way. Best view of the storm cell before it diverged as it passed overhead.

At the end of a cold December 7, 1996, day, Wisconsin Central train 47 diverges onto the connection track at Duplainville, Wisconsin, for the trip back home to North Fond du Lac. Train Nos. 46 and 47 were a turn, operating from Shops Yard in N. Fond du Lac to Muskego Yard in Milwaukee and return. Today’s short train is led by WC’s only EMD FP45, No. 6652.

After shooting sunrise in Grand Teton National Park for a second day, I decided to stay in the Antelope Flats area for a little while longer to get other views of the Tetons and some of the wildlife.

A mile east of the T.A. Moulton Barn site, I stopped at a pull-out to catch a gang of bison transiting the Flats in front of the Teton Cathedral Group. While stopped I heard a noise a few hundred yards to my left and hiked out into the scrub to investigate.

A pair of bison were foraging near the tree line, and I hoped to get a clear shot of at least one of these magnificent animals. The scrub stood about three feet tall, and with their heads down, foraging, I thought I wouldn't see much. After returning to my vehicle to get the biggest lens I had, I hiked back out a second time, to a point where I could track the two, who were diverging from each other.

At one point the trailing bison lifted its head and stared directly at me. Snapping off many frames in hand-held mode, I caught this one staring back at me, and realized I had a 300-yard run to the Jeep through thick brush, and was maybe 100-yards away from the two animals. That was close enough for me.

Happy New Year to all flickr friends. Thank you so much for your viewing, faves and comments.

The next new Chinese Lunar Year in 2022 will be the Year of the Tiger. It is the fact that the common domestic house cat shares about 95.6% of its DNA with tigers, from which they diverged on the evolutionary tree about 10.8 million years ago. 😸 🐯

It was one of those Canada Goose Mornings… Lots of Honking and Frolicking in the water. Wasn’t a Crested Caracara, Moose, or Elephant, but still lots of fun to watch : )

And here’s more fun facts about these noisy critters:

Canada geese find mates when they’re around two years old, and pairs stay together for the rest of their lives (24 years on average). The birds usually pick partners that are similar to their own body size, a pattern known as “assortative mating.”

Canada geese usually fly in a large V-shaped formation, with one bird in the lead and the others trailing behind it in two diverging lines. There are two reasons for this. First, the V shape makes the flock more energetically efficient, with vortices of air created by each goose’s flapping giving some lift to the birds behind it. Second, the formation makes it easier for the geese to maintain visual contact with each other and communicate, which helps navigation and flock cohesion.

The Road Not Taken

BY ROBERT FROST

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

And sorry I could not travel both

And be one traveler, long I stood

And looked down one as far as I could

To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,

And having perhaps the better claim,

Because it was grassy and wanted wear;

Though as for that the passing there

Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay

In leaves no step had trodden black.

Oh, I kept the first for another day!

Yet knowing how way leads on to way,

I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh

Somewhere ages and ages hence:

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

The fuchsias are most closely related to the northern hemisphere genus Circaea, the two lineages having diverged around 41 million years ago. Fuchsia is a genus of flowering plants that consists mostly of shrubs or small trees. Almost 110 species of Fuchsia are recognized; the vast majority are native to South America, but a few occur north through Central America to Mexico, and also several from New Zealand to Tahiti. Fuchsia leaves are opposite or in whorls of three to five, simple lanceolate, and usually have serrated margins (entire in some species), 1–25 cm long, and can be either deciduous or evergreen, depending on the species. The flowers are very decorative; they have a pendulous teardrop shape and are displayed in profusion throughout the summer and autumn, and all year in tropical species. They have four long, slender sepals and four shorter, broader petals; in many species, the sepals are bright red and the petals purple (colours that attract the hummingbirds that pollinate them), but the colours can vary from white to dark red, purple-blue, and orange. A few have yellowish tones. 31857
