The old Fred Jones dealership was torn down yesterday, but I was lucky enough to get inside before the demolition to get these shots. For more about this building and what may go in its place, go here:

From their website: "The Little Red Car is a Carter Town Shopper – a 70 year-old “Survivor” built by the Carter Motor Company in 1942. The car is rust-free and mostly original with exception of adding minor components such as rear lights and replacement seats. The vehicle has a front engine and chain drive to the rear wheels and is licensed and street legal. It also has mechanical brakes, generator and electric starter. We believe that the Carter was intended to be a practical runabout for shopping and errands during tough times in the USA when we went from the Great Depression to WWII. At this time, vehicles were difficult to obtain by civilians — many of whom became soldiers and were away fighting in the war. And materials and fuel were also being rationed. The Carter would have been economical to operate with the 7 ½ HP engine. However, it did have a price tag of $595, which would have been expensive at this time in history.

We believe that our car was an early prototype called the Town Shopper. Photos of a later model (the 1946-1947 Towne Shopper) featured rear engine and a few additional features. The Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, TN is currently restoring such a model. According to our findings to date, Carter failed to raise adequate capital to establish distributorships to manufacture and market these vehicles. So the Carter, like many vehicles, is a part of America’s motoring past. We are excited to now be the caretakers of this unique and rare vehicle and enjoy sharing it. Our favorite part of doing so is watching the smiles on the faces of everyone who sees it.If you can provide any additional information regarding the Little Red Car, please contact us.Thank you for visiting,Casey Moir and Philip Bres."

BENZ & CIE

By the end of the 20th Century's first decade, the automobile had left its primitive 'horse-less carriage' antecedents far behind, thanks, in no small measure, to Karl Benz. In America meanwhile, the focus of development had been on production techniques that effectively 'democratised' the motor car, making it an affordable means of transportation for the masses and no longer the exclusive preserve of the wealthy dilettante. In the halcyon days before the outbreak of the First World War though, there were sufficient numbers of the latter to make the production of large luxury cars a highly profitable enterprise.

The major overseas players on the American scene at this time were Rolls-Royce and Benz, the latter's distributorship - the Benz Auto Import Company of America - being located on Broadway, New York City. In 1911, Benz chassis prices ranged from $3,250 for the 18hp up to $8,500 for the 60hp, and this at a time when a new Ford Model T could be purchased for under $700! If custom coachwork of the finest quality was specified, the total cost of a Benz could reach stratospheric heights.

Benz could command these prices due to their excellent quality but also because of the sterling reputation they had built through competition. The 21 liter Blitzen Benz had established a series of land speed records culminating in a 141.7 mph run at Ormond Beach Florida. This outright land speed record stood till 1919.

THE MOTORCAR OFFERED

Prior to World War 1 Benz produced a wide array of motor and chassis combinations. Models ranged from the petite 6/14 up to the massive 82/200 Blitzen. The 18/45 model was in the upper half of the Benz range a represented a sweet spot for size and performance. The well-engineered engine made 45hp with only an 18hp taxable size. The smooth running and efficient L-Head design attributed to this efficient power output. At nearly five liters it is a healthy sized four cylinder. The attractive motor is made up of two "cast in pairs" cylinders mounted to an aluminum crank case.

The crown jewel of this example is the V radiator. Fitted to some but not all 18/45 chassis it has the iconic appearance of the later Mercedes-Benz models. The motor runs through a smooth-shifting Benz four-speed transmission. Attractive brass lights and accessories complete the package of this well turned out motorcar.

In 2012 this Benz was acquired from the Aalholm Automobile Collection in Denmark. Since then a comprehensive restoration was performed. The work was completed early in 2019 and the car was shown at the Amelia Island Concours D'Elegance. The car wears the charismatic, tough non-standard, coach work it was acquired with and makes the car quite sporty and nimble. Not burdened by the heavy coach work typical of the era the Benz is surprisingly spirited and a great attention getter.

A fun, well-running example from one of the great names of the pre-war era. With its fresh restoration and striking looks it is bound to provide lots of fun for its new owner.

This year I was able to escape the snow and join Fred in Scottsdale for sunshine, cars, and music! I also drove down to Tucson to meet Doug for lunch and spend a nice evening visting with Richard and Lola.

Here I've mounted my friend Lou's Nikkor 500mm mirror lens on one of my Canon F-1s using an adapter which Canon sold for a brief period following the introduction of the FD lens series. Canon also offered adapters for Pentax and Exacta lenses as an enticement for owners of that gear to consider switching brands.

The Speedfinder shown here was one of my most treasured accessories. It provided eye relief for shooters wearing eyeglasses and could be swiveled into a waist-level position for shooting from low angles. This item is one of several I purchased from our Bell & Howell representative after they lost U.S. distributorship of the Canon camera brand (when Canon began handling their own distribution).

My other favorite bit of gear was the Canon Motor Drive MF. I haven't yet found any photos of it in my files but that drive was awesome! The grip design was perfect and the AA batteries would run forever.

One of the upper rooms was known as the poker room, with good reason, I think.

The old Fred Jones dealership was torn down yesterday, but I was lucky enough to get inside before the demolition to get these shots. For more about this building and what may go in its place, go here:

newsok.com/fred-jones-dealership-in-downtown-okc-is-histo...

My uncle John Stevens owned the Texaco oil distributorship in Traverse City, in the 1950s and 60s. This place obviously was a Mobilgas outlet, but in the absence of a Texaco photo, it will have to do.

M.bian Moleskine Case was my original design back in 2005. Dozens of prototyping and refinement were done and I even created a POP system for display in retail stores. However the production quantity required to get price down to consumer acceptable level couldn't be met. I had some opportunities to be able to have U.S. large distribution network to help lower the cost but turned out because of their Moleskine distributorship prevented them to sell products that could potentially harm the Moleskine business, I lost the chance to make it happen. Time flies, it is already two years passed.

When I was developing the M.bian case, my mind was thinking about ambience, i.e. an aura of excitement without intrusion. That's where the name M.bian came from. Today, I still use the prototypes to hold my pens, travel accessories and Moleskine.

I designed the velcro/button hanging system with two levels of height, i.e. you can have the M.bian case hanged from your waist belt close to the waist or have it lowered. You have more chance to hurt your waist if the case is held close to it, especially when you try to sit down on an armed chair, the case can pop to your waist and hurt you. That's why I designed a lowered configuration so that it stays near your lap preventing the armchair accident.

To me, the features are amazing coz M.bian is a condensed version of my whole digital/analog life. It has 3 pen holders on the outside covered with a flap, which acts as a quick pocket for storing train tickets and receipts. It has 2 mesh pockets inside to put more essential stuffs. It also has a headphone access port so that you can use it as an iPod holder on your belt. It also has cushion to protect your iPod or Moleskine.

When you are sitting or standing, accessing your Moleskine or iPod is super easy, just unzip forward and down, your iPod/Moleskine is exposed and you can quickly pull it out.

You can also use it as a travel pouch to store iPod and related connecting cables and headphones.

I love the headphone access port feature, it is water proof and headphone jack can easily pass the small but flexible opening.

The size is just fit for pocket size Moleskine, but it also fits standard passport so your personal identification document is never far from your waist. Pockets can even hold your portable digital camera.

Well, in this configuration, you can put a pen, a zippo lighter, a swiss knife and a small size compass. All on the outside easily accessible pocket and pen holders.

Since travelers use backpacks and most backpacks has some nylon strap on the shoulder strap. I added a small but userful hole on the velcro strap so that not only you can hang your M.bian case on belt, you can strap it on your backpack. Call it an explorer's case :)

For less active persons, M.bian case can be used as a pen case storing your precious pens both on the outside 3 pen holders and inside spacious compartments.

This must be the most loved feature of Moleskine users, instead of freely insert your Moleskine into the case, you can insert the left part of your Moleskine to the left side of the pouch which has a vertical mesh pocket. This setup is like a notebook cover for your Moleskine. On the other hand, if you are a Moleskine Reporter user, you can use the horizontal mesh pocket on the right side of the case to insert your Reporter! Call it a double feature!

Finally, comparing the price for all the other Moleskine cases available in the market, it is still the best. I hope somebody is still interested in this complete design. I also want it to be done in leather which feels more precious. So even though it didn't happen, it doesn't mean it won't and I love the features offered very much and it is my daily companion for the pass 2 years and still works great for me. Get in touch with me if you are interested to help make it come true.

B. O. Daubert plumbing and heating business at 607 S Market St, E side. The building was erected in 1955, and tenanted by Daubert for fifteen years. Its first store manager was George A. Hummel, of 125 N. Market St. In 1972 Gordon Page purchased the property and has operated a beer distributorship.

The real challenge in launching the industry's first and only color-coded metal conduit was that all distributorships maintain the stock on hand behind the counter, out of sight. This "ear-catching" display sounded a new era in merchandising for Tyco, not only capturing 8,000 leads but also signing up new distributors to carry the product.

Oral Tolerability of Cysteine-Rich Protein Isolate (Immunocal) in Autism - A Pilot Study

MONTREAL, Aug. 28 /CNW Telbec/ - Immunotec Inc. (TSX-V: IMM) announced

today the completion of an open-label clinical trial on the use of a

cysteine-rich protein isolate in children with autism. Ten children, 3-15

years of age with a diagnosis of autism or autism spectrum disorder (ASD),

were supplemented with a non-denatured whey protein isolate (Immunocal(R)).

Autism symptoms, behavior, side effects, and treatment adherence were

examined, as well as bowel flora. This preliminary study showed the majority

of autistic children were able to consume non-denatured whey protein isolate

(Immunocal(R)) without adverse effects. Changes in all behavioural parameters

showed positive trends but did not reach statistical significance because of

the small numbers of patients in this pilot study. The results will provide

the basis for a larger placebo controlled double blind study to test the

benefits of using whey protein isolate in the treatment of autism. (Kern JK,

Grannemann BD, Gutman J, Trivedi MH, Oral Tolerability of Cysteine-Rich Whey

Protein Isolate in Autism - A Pilot Study, Journal of the American

Nutraceutical Association (JANA), Vol. 11, No. 1, 36-41, 2008.)

Recent evidence suggests that many children with autism have low levels

of glutathione in their cells. Non-denatured whey protein can improve

glutathione levels in a variety of diseases and disorders; however, there are

anecdotal reports that children with autism may have a worsening of behavior,

gastrointestinal (GI) disturbance or related problems after the ingestion of

sulfur-rich compounds.

Principle investigator Dr. Janet Kern stated, "We're very optimistic

about these pilot results, it makes us very comfortable to pursue larger and

longer-term studies using this strategy."

Immunotec President and CEO Jim Northrop is pleased with these initial

results. "Completion of this pilot study will encourage researchers to move on

to the next step of studying the role and benefits of our cysteine-rich

protein (Immunocal) in children with autistic spectrum disorder. I am proud of

Immunotec's commitment to ongoing research and development that continues to

validate the confidence and quality in our products."

Immunotec and Nova Southeastern University (NSU) Collaborate on New Autism Study using Immunocal®

MONTREAL, July 26, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Immunotec Inc. (TSXV: IMM) (www.immunotec.com/IRL/ Public/en/USA/products_overview.wcp?) announces that Nova Southeastern University (NSU) in Florida is conducting a study to determine the effects of Immunocal on the behaviours of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Immunocal, a whey protein isolate, is Immunotec's flagship product.

The primary focus of the two-year study is to determine if children diagnosed with autism would exhibit improved behaviours after consuming the cysteine-rich whey proteins in Immunocal during the course of the 90-day observation period. The outcome could be a better quality of life, both for the children and their families.

The principal investigator of the NSU-Immunotec study is Ana Maria Castejon, Ph.D., an associate professor at the College of Pharmacy. She and her research team are very enthusiastic about the potential outcomes. "Parents and caregivers are trying different approaches that have gained significant popularity, but have not been proven to be effective," Castejon said. Dr. Gary S. Margules, Vice President of Research and Technology Transfer at NSU, echoes Dr. Castejon's optimism, calling the study an "outstanding example of the multidisciplinary approach to clinical research".

Immunotec President, Stuart MacMillan welcomes the announcement of the study. "Immunotec has a long history of collaboration with leading researchers and scientists. Dr. Castejon and her co-investigators at NSU's Mailman Segal Center of Human Development have vast experience in children with developmental disorders, specifically in the area of autism behaviours and we are proud to be working with them on this study."

Both the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Health Canada note that as many as 1 in 150 children worldwide are affected and the numbers are rising. Treatment for autism is usually centered on special schooling and behavioral therapy, and other conventional medical treatments.

"This joint collaborative clinical research initiative marks an important milestone for Immunotec in the field of autism; we are proud to partner with NSU in this study," said John Molson, Immunotec Vice-President, Research and Development.

About Immunotec Inc.

Immunotec is engaged primarily in the development and marketing of natural health products, dietary supplements, vitamins and personal care products which are distributed throughout Canada, the United States and Mexico through a sophisticated, seamless network marketing channel and around the globe through exclusive distributorship agreements.

THE INDUSTRIAL AWARD IS GIVEN TO INDUSTRIAL, WAREHOUSE OR CORPORATE PROJECTS NOT NORMALLY OPEN TO THE PUBLIC THAT HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE CITY’S VISUAL ENVIRONMENT.

THIS YEAR’S AWARD GOES TO MIMS DISTRIBUTING COMPANY.

PROJECT TEAM MEMBERS INCLUDE:

•OWNER: MIMS DISTRIBUTING COMPANY

•DESIGNER: HAGERSMITH DESIGN, P.A.

•CONTRACTOR: PRIME BUILDING COMPANY

WHEN MIMS, A LOCAL BEER DISTRIBUTORSHIP, OUTGREW ITS PREVIOUS FACILITY, THE FIRM CHOSE TO IMPROVE AN EXISTING, VACANT WAREHOUSE RATHER THAN DEVELOP A NEW SITE. IT HAS EMERGED AS A VERY POSITIVE CHOICE. THE EXISTING BUILDING WAS NEARLY DOUBLED IN SIZE. THE NEW CORPORATE OFFICE ADDITION, WITH ITS 2-STORY LOBBY AND ITS ARTICULATED FAÇADE, PROVIDES A DISTINCTIVE ARCHITECTURAL PRESENCE. THE WOODS ALONG EBENEZER CHURCH ROAD WERE PRESERVED, WITH DISTINCTIVE NEW LANDSCAPE FEATURES ADDED, INCLUDING A WHIMSICAL HOPS “COURT”, CELEBRATING THE “ROOTS” OF MIMS’ BUSINESS. MOST NOTABLE, HOWEVER, ARE A RANGE OF SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES, INCLUDING A LARGE PHOTOVOLTAIC ARRAY ON THE ROOF FOR ENERGY GENERATION, LOBBY WINDOW SUNSHADES, AND DROUGHT TOLERANT AND NON-INVASIVE LANDSCAPING PLANTS.

JURY COMMENTS:

•“ABOVE AND BEYOND.”

•“LOVE THE HOPS GARDEN!”

•“POSITIVE EFFECTS ON MANY LEVELS: ADJACENT COMMUNITY, THE NATURAL ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY CONSERVATION, EDIBLE LANDSCAPES, AND THE HUMANIZING THE SPACE FOR PEOPLE.”

From the February, 1967 Modern Photography (Vol. 31, No. 2) page 28.

McKeown's lists this camera as a being made by Amica International of Japan. While apparently the camera is real, it does not seem to have made much of a dent in the market.

Caspeco was the importing company founded by Max Wirgin in NYC after fleeing the rise of the Nazis in Germany. He also won the US distributorship of Exakta and Pentacon cameras, by 1954 all operating from this same Bronxville address.
