The City of Laredo Council member for District 4, Alberto Torres Jr., will be visiting several elementary schools in his district on Friday, August 20, 2021 for the 4th Annual Elementary Schools Backpack and School Supplies Assistance Program. A total of 600 backpacks with school supplies will be distributed along the selected underprivileged students. Furthermore, several gift card donations will be included in the backpacks this time around, thanks to the contribution of kind sponsors. Joining Councilman Torres with this year’s program contribution are Commissioner for Texas Parks & Wildlife, Anna B. Galo; Webb County Commissioner for Precinct 3, John Galo; and Webb County Constable for Precinct 1, Rodolfo “Rudy” Rodriguez Jr. All previous years, the assistance of staff at these schools, committed to the program, has been key for the success of this distribution.

For building an educated society, one should not overlook the education level of parents, neighbors and adult members of the community because they are influential for the education of children. Considering the fact Lodhie Foundation was looking for a program which make the young students teach their parents, neighbors and adult community members. Young Students of DIL Schools taught their illiterate parents or adult community members in evening time. The students educated their parents/ adult community members to read, write and understand, now they can communicate and understand like an educated person and both parents and students feel pride. Lodhie Foundation appreciated such a unique initiative of DIL Foundation and gifted solar Powered LED Lights to the students who taught their parents and the community adults who learned from their juniors without feeling any shame.

This was a simple vinyl replay system, comprising of a Rega turntable, Hegel V10 phono stage, Hegel H120 amplifier, and a pair of Amphion Argon 1 loudspeakers on Solid Steel stands. The system sounded fantastic, was perfect for the size of the room, and attracted a lot of praise from visitors.

Giving Solar Lanterns as a prize to the best performing students is not a new initiative of Pervaiz Lodhie. In previous years Lodhie Foundation has extended his initiative to various schools in Sindh and Punjab.
Inspiring with the idea, Mr. Jonathan Mitchell PHD President and Founder of Concentric development Inc. invited Pervaiz Lodhie to extend his program of distributing solar lanterns as prizes in PEP schools. Pervaiz Lodhie has immediately offered to gift 249 lanterns, allowing for three prizes per school. His suggestion was to distribute them to 1)Top student of the year 2) Top most improved student of the year 3) Top best attendance student of the year.
Mr. Lodhie also suggested encouraging the prize recipients to teach a short literacy course to family members or relatives.
During his recent visit to Pakistan in March 2016, Pervaiz visited the two schools in Mirpurkas and Tando Allahyar and distributed the solar lanterns to the 7 best students. Remaining 242 lanterns will be distributed in first and second week of April 2016
The Primary Education Project (PEP) is a part of the education work of Diocese of Hyderabad that is working to provide sustainable quality education to the poorest children of Rural Sindh, Pakistan. PEP has been involved in the work of education since 2002 and currently has 83 schools in the five district areas of rural Sindh, which are Badin, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar and Umerkot. At Present 4970 students are enrolled in 83 schools.
