The World Food Program (WFP) has replaced the direct distribution of food to the IDPs for a voucher system where each family can exchange its value for products such as sugar, salt, lentils, oil, cereals, meat, chicken and dried tomatoes. The center hosts 12 local vendors who distributes these products to the IDPs.

Changed the gasket of the rocker cover today. Visual inspection showed it leaked oil somewhere, so it had to be done.
First time I took the cover off, the internals look good as far as I can judge :)

Do you wish to make donations to humanitarian causes while you are in Vietnam? If you do, then I think the best and most efficient way is to go direct to those centers and make contributions. My frequent place is the orphanage for the young disabled located in go-vap district of the city of Saigon. The center belongs to a Buddhist monk and the running of the center depends entirely on people donations and the help of volunteers. I am sure there are many places like that in Vietnam that needs our help. So if you want to help, just ask around and go direct to the centers of your choice to make contributions. It does not have to be cash. It can be in the form of food, clothes, necessities etc..

"In the mid-1930's Richard L. Brown opened a bicycle and industrial equipment distribution company at 604 NW 6th in Portland. That's on the corner of 6th and Hoyt. This was the Portland office for his Seattle based company. The company is now in NE Portland as far as I know. I worked there in the 70's. The branch manager, a gentleman named George Hausch had started working there in 1936. It is the two story building on the opposite end of the block from the Yellow Cab company in this picture. We had the first floor section (1 of 4) on the corner and all of the upstairs that used as a warehouse. The building's loading dock was wagon height not truck height and we had the same freight elevator (I was told) that Mr. Otis displayed at the 1901 World's fair. I heard that from the Otis repair guy, has not been verified. You pulled a cable to start it. The building had been some sort of manufacturing building at one time. The rods and wheels for belt drive machinery were in the ceiling. The plumbing fixtures (that didn't work in the upstairs) were ancient. The building was brick and I was told that it was circa 1860, again not confirmed. This building was a block down from Union Station and on the opposite corner from the Hoyt Hotel. It was torn down almost 30 years ago to make way for the transit center that sits there now. I actually have a brick from the building that my father was able to snag for me. In that building there were boxes of the leather hats worn by the Yellow cab drivers in the 30's just sitting and collecting dust as well as other early Portland memorabilia. As far as I know that stuff disappeared when they tore it down, hopefully someone saved it. I am trying to find a picture of this building but this has been as close as I have come. Does anyone have any other pictures of the area?"

This diagram details the key players in the assembly and distribution of the Kit Yamoyo and lists their responsibilities. It was prepared for the implementation partners meeting on 12 July 2012 as the basis for a discussion of the Kit Yamoyo 'test run'.
Hi Steve,
I just wanted to follow up on our earlier conversation and place on record how delighted we are with the level of service we are getting from Paul Digby and his teams at Worksop and Newark.
We have been attached to the Scania brand from as far back as 1990 – when trucks were being purchased from East Midland Commercials – and have enjoyed a great working relationship with you personally since the LION Trackhire days. We have engaged many different service / maintenance contractors and even carried out our R&M in house, in the past.
However, the level of service we are consistently getting from Paul (and now Dan) goes above and beyond what we actually expect as an operator.
Within 2 short years we have already grown to a fleet of 21 and hope to add to this further, following our meeting with yourself next week. The decision to stick with the Scania brand is being made on the service we are receiving from Paul Digby and the great relationship we have with you.
Would you be kind enough to make sure that this message is passed to the Keltruck Board and a form of recognition from them to Paul Digby and all concerned, it would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
James Robinson

Certificates distribution ceremony held of Developing Critical Mass
for Educational Reform in Chitral
CHITRAL: Since its inception in 2003, the Aga Khan University’s
Professional Development Centre in Chitral (AKU-PDCC) has been
offering a variety of high quality innovative programs for building
the capacity of schools and key stakeholders in Chitral, other parts
of Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Over 2600 teachers, head teachers, and
education managers have thus far attended various Certificate and
short courses offered by this institution. PDCC. has also developed a
number of schools as model in multi-grade teaching and ECED. Its
faculty have engaged in research and published a number of articles
and book chapters in various national and international journals and
books. PDCC has recently won a very competitive research grant award
from Higher Education of Pakistan to study the role of civil society
institutions in promoting cultural diversity and pluralism in Chitral.
A colorful ceremony was organized at PDCC to celebrate the successful
completion of two Certificate Courses in ‘Educational Leadership and
management’ and ‘Primary Education’. A total of 39 head teachers and
teachers graduated from these two courses. 22 out of 39 were from
government schools. Executive District Officer primary and elementary
schools Muhammad Siraj was chief guest on the occasion while there
ceremony was presided over by Sultan Mehmood Regional Program
Manager Hashoo Foundation. The ceremony was attended by
educationists, leaders of the civil society institutions, and teachers
community.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Mir Afzal Tajik, Head Outreach AKU-IED
and Head PDCC highlighted key issues and hurdles in the way of
improving the quality of education in the district. He also
highlighted how these courses have helped the graduates to address
these issues and thus bring about positive changes in their schools.
He urged that bringing about positive changes in schools is possible
but the head teachers and teachers have to initiate the change. The
purpose of these courses was to develop the ‘change agents’ needed to
initiate and lead the change.
Siraj Muhammad, EDO Education Chitral, thanked AKU-PDCC for its
continuous efforts to enhance the capacity of schools and to develop
leadership and change agents for schools in Chitral. He urged the
graduates to implement what they have learnt in the courses and
assured them of his full support. He particularly thanked PDCC
leadership for their cooperation with the government education. He
also advised the graduates that they should work with full enthusiasm
and diligence.
Sultan Mehmood and others also lauded AKU-PDCC for its valuable
contributions to capacity building of key stakeholders in Chitral.
Mrs. Commandant Chitral Scouts while talking on the occasion expressed
her great sorrow on trend of cheating. She said that mostly graduate
and post graduates students could not speak transparently and they are
very poor in general knowledge. Although they have degrees but no
knowledge it means that they use unfair-means in examinations or warm
palm of Board and university staff. She said that during recruitment
of Chitral scouts some 31 candidates were pulled out from test hall
because of involving in cheating. She said that our head teaches and
teachers can bring positive changes. She appreciated decision of
provincial government to bound government schools teaches to enroll
their children in Govt. schools not in private one so as to couscous
about the future of their own children and they will teach honestly to
their students. At last Certificates were distributed amongst the
graduates.
