In an effort aimed at uplifting the productivity and income of farmers, the Rose Namayanja Foundation this week distributed planting seeds to various farming groups in Semuto Sub County, Nakaseke District.

The distribution of the high quality seeds to the farming groups was done in preparation for the new planting season. The farmers were also sensitized on the best farming practices in order to yield better harvests.

While sensitizing the farmers on how they can best fight pests and diseases from destroying their crops, Mr. Ivan Kulaba an agronomist with House of Seeds, advised the farmers to embrace team work and also consider spraying as a preventative measure against pests.

“Don’t wait to spray your crops after they have been attacked by pests but consider spraying as a preventive measures if you are to have high yields. Work as a team. Spray at the same time as your neighbor to avoid pests running into your garden from the other side,” Kaluba said.

Before distributing the planting seeds, the Rose Namayanja Foundation CEO, Mr Joseph Munyangabo called upon the farmers to put into practice the skills they have been taught to acquire high yields at the end of the season. He also pledged on behalf of the foundation to continue supporting the farmers in order to enable them achieve their highest potential.

The farmers applauded the foundation for the planting seeds and technical advice rendered to them. They pledged to support the foundation in its endeavor of reaching out to the people and promised to translate the knowledge gained into high yields and income.

“I’m very grateful to Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko for the help rendered to our community through her foundation.

These seeds will not only help us increase output, but will also transform both our families and community.” Ms Margaret Nalugya a farmer attached to Semuto Market Vendor’s group said.

The Semuto Town Council Mayor, Mr. Kizito Richard, commended the foundation for the great initiative of transforming the lives of many people.

More than 1,690 schools are currently unfit for use due to conflict-related damage, hosting of IDPs or occupation by armed groups. About 2.3 million children need support to access education, including 1.1 million in areas that are acutely affected by conflict. Months of unpaid salaries have aggravated matters. Bushbuck are shy and elusive bushbuck is widely distributed over sub-Saharan Africa. In East Africa it is found in a variety of habitats, though rarely on open land. Bushbucks have a lot of individual and regional differences in their coat colours and patterns.

In general, Bushbuck inhabiting deep forest have darker coats. They will live anywhere from sea level to mountaintops, from rainforests to subdesert terrain.

Bushbucks are most vulnerable to predators such as Leopard, Lions, Hyenas and Cheetah when on the run, but if cornered the male will fight bravely and if attacked may even become a dangerous foe. Even though Baboons sometimes eat the young, Bushbucks continue to associate closely with them at times, picking up fallen fruit and other foods that foraging Baboons drop.
