The Upper Jurassic Morrison Formation is widely distributed in many western American states. The unit consists of fluvial (river/floodplain) and lacustrine (lake) deposits. Dinosaur bones and dinosaur tracks are moderately common in Morrison Formation sediments. Exceptionally dinosaur-rich localities include Como Bluff in Wyoming, Dinosaur National Monument in Utah, Dinosaur Ridge in Colorado, and the Cleveland-Lloyd Quarry in Utah.

This track will show ways to scale distributed systems: what it takes to build these systems successfully, new and cutting edge research/industry techniques that help us build more reliable and robust distributed systems. We'll cover topics like testing/validating distributed systems, gossip protocols for managing stageful distributed systems, CRDTs, and other applied research used in the industry.

According to the latest report by IMARC Group, the global distributed acoustic sensing market exhibited double-digit growth.

These systems utilize fiber optic cables to measure acoustic interactions and provide distributed strain sensing.

The Patas Monkey (Erythrocebus patas) is a ground-dwelling monkey distributed over West Africa, and into East Africa. It is the only species classified in the genus Erythrocebus. The Patas Monkey avoids dense woodlands and lives in more open savanna and semi-deserts. The Patas Monkey grows to 85 cm in length, excluding the tail, which measures 75 cm. Reaching speeds of 55 km/h, it is the fastest runner among the primates.

This monkey lives in groups of about twelve individuals. There is a loose matrilineal dominance rank. The group contains just one adult male for most of the year. During the breeding season, there are multi-male influxes into the group. Once juvenile males reach sexual maturity (around the age of 4 years old) they leave the group, usually joining all the all-male groups. Patas monkeys feed on insects, gum, seeds, and tubers.

There is some confusion surrounding the number of valid subspecies, with some listing four,

and others listing two; the western Erythrocebus patas patas (Common Patas; with a black nose) and the eastern Erythrocebus patas pyrrhonotus (Nisnas; with a white nose). Others, however, have suggested that at least some of the features used to separate these subspecies merely are variations in the female's facial pattern during pregnancy, and therefore tentatively consider this species monotypic.

When I was in 2nd grade there was a program in Oregon to give second-graders their own little tree. It was to educate us about forests and along with our trees people came in to talk to us when they distributed the trees. The trees they gave us were the same kind you see them using for reforesting.

When I got home that day and showed my mom and dad we picked out a place in the yard where I would plant my tree. When I unwrapped it from it's packaging I discovered that I was the proud owner of two trees! I was so excited. They are both spruces but different varieties so they do not look exactly the same buy very similar.

We planted the trees and they thrived, growing a foot or more every year.

Then when I was sixteen we bought property and built a new house. I was really sad because by that time my trees were about 12 feet tall and I was going to leave them behind.

Imagine my surprise when I came home from school one day and found big holes in the front yard where my trees had been! My dad had worked for several hours to carefully dig them out and then use our pickup to remove them from their spots and move them out to our new place! I was thrilled!

The trees loved their new homes and over the years have continued to grow and grow. I think they are now close to 50' tall! I have a method for measuring them but haven't been able to use it for a couple years... They have been sentries standing guard, providing homes for the birds and shade on the hottest days. They continue to remain strong and healthy and so far have survived every storm.

Some day I know they will need to be removed as my Dad removes the trees on his property as they become a threat to his house. These guys have probably been in that category for several years since they are only about 20' from the house.

In the meantime, I continue to marvel at what was once just a little twig and thank my Dad for all the work he's done to keep them for me all these years.
