Avicennia marina is distributed along the east coast of Africa, Southwest Asia, throughout south and south-east Asia, and into Australia. It also occurs in New Zealand between 34 and 38 degrees south.
Avicennia marina is the most widely distributed mangrove species in Australia, occurring in virtually all mainland estuaries and embayments, including the southern most distribution of mangroves in the world, at Corner Inlet, Victoria. Avicennia marina has pencil-like pneumatophores and small orange flowers. Leaves have a silvery-gray under surface and a pointed tip. This species has three varieties, with significant genetic mixing where their distribution overlaps.
The other two subsp. are - Avicennia marina subsp. eucalyptifolia and Avicennia marina subsp. marina.

These images were taken at Shelly Beach, Red Head, NSW on the beach below the Littoral Rainforest. There are just 2 ancient trees, one of which must be many hundreds of years old. There is only one other small plant that appears to be now established. The nearest other mangrove species would be in Khappingat Creek to the north and west and in the Wallis lake Estuary to the south.
Although not considered a rainforest species I have included these images in my Hallidays Point Littoral Rainforests set of images due to the close proximity of the plants to Red Head Littoral Rainforest Reserve.

Distributed Urban Agriculture
While the majority of the population now lives in urban areas, the vast majority of our food still comes from far distant rural farms using increasingly destructive strategies to maximize their yield. All of a sudden, however, technology and the market are giving producers the opportunity to scale urban agriculture up to help make cities sustainable. Innovations in remote sensing, data conglomeration, irrigation design, and lighting are enabling farmers to grow healthy produce on a tiny footprint with fewer dangerous chemicals. In the process, urban farmers can reuse waste as construction material and fertilizer, while operating farms distributed throughout cities in derelict and underutilized spaces.

HISTORY RBDG
Company Overview
Victor Quijada, choreographer and performer, founded the RUBBERBANDance Group (RBDG) to make it a channel for expressing and disseminating its choreographic identity by creating, among others, evocative and unpublished plays. The company, co-directed by interpreter Anne Plamondon, is responsible for creating, producing and distributing Quijada's work nationally and internationally in the form of shows, films and special events.
With RBDG, Victor Quijada reconciles the aesthetics of the two poles of the dance that inhabit him: the spontaneity, the risk, the temerity and the audacity of his youth, while he was bathing in hip-hop culture and refinement and the choreographic maturity of ballet and contemporary dance, where he evolved as a professional dancer. The revolutionary character of the aesthetic movement created by Quijada is illustrated by a dozen years of research that have led to more than twelve creations. Impressed by the inherent independence of the street and a keen sense of direction, Quijada's choreographies explore human relationships by capturing the ardor of obsession, the brutality of violence, the delicacy of tenderness , comedy and tragedy, not forgetting sincerity and courage.
Carrying the sensibility of street dancers, Victor Quijada seeks ways to integrate the spontaneity of hip-hop circles into the stage. He has explored various forums, made spontaneous representations and knocked down barriers between performers and the public in innumerable ways. All this with the same objective: to get rid of the format of the usual representations so that the public experiences the dance actively, rather than passively.
In addition to their stage and film creations, Victor Quijada and Anne Plamondon have developed a training program to prepare professional dancers for the demands of Quijada's choreographies. This program introduces the dancers to a hybrid movement influenced by the vocabularies of urban and contemporary dances, with emphasis on interpretation, decision-making, the use of rhythmic variations and accompaniment. Workshops, lecture-demonstrations, question and answer sessions and school performances are also regularly offered as part of the tours.
RBDG also helps young choreographers who want to express their own voice. The Post Hip Hop Project, born in 2009 at the Cinquième Salle, invites young artists to work their creations under the mentorship of Victor Quijada and then present them to the public.
Company History
Founded in Montreal in 2002, the company immediately delighted the public and critics with three creations presented at Espace Tangente over two seasons. At the same time, the company participates in mixed programs and organizes parties throughout the city to present smaller pieces. Tender Loving Care and Hasta La Próxima share a place in the top five dance productions of the newspaper Le Devoir, while Elastic Perspective begins in 2003 a series of more than 100 performances after winning the RIDEAU Prize at Festival Vue on the Relève. The RUBBERBANDance Group then obtains a residence at Usine C for the 2003-2004 season. The play Slicing Static was created, and later named the best dance production in 2004 by the Hour newspaper.
In 2005, Anne Plamondon joined Quijada as artistic director to assist with strategic planning. A second residency at Usine C was granted to them in 2006, followed by a four-year residency at Place des Arts. During this period, four new pieces were created, thanks to the support of multiple partners: Loan Sharking and AV Input / Output in 2008, Punto Ciego in 2009 and Gravity of Center in 2011.
RBDG also co-produced five films choreographed by Victor Quijada. The choreographer goes so far as to realize two: Secret Service and Small Explosions That Are Yours to Keep. Hasta La Próxima, shot in 2003, is a finalist in the short film category at the American Choreography Awards.
Now well established, the company embodies Canadian artistic innovation in the United States, Europe, Mexico and Japan. RBDG is at the forefront of the Montreal contemporary dance community and is recognized internationally for its unique vision of this form of dance.
In terms of peer recognition, Quijada received the Choreography Fellowship from the Princess Grace Foundation (USA), the Peter Darrell Choreography Award (England), the Bonnie Bird North American Award (England), the Choreography Media Honors (US) in addition to a second PGF award with the 2016 Work in Progress Residency Award.
The Togolese Red Cross yesterday (4 September 2017) carried out its second humanitarian distribution in two weeks under forecast-based financing (FbF), as heavy monsoon rain threatened more villages on the Mono river downstream from the Nangbeto dam. TRC volunteers and staff – including the society’s president – distributed emergency-shelter items for just over 100 households from the village of Togbavi, in Lacs prefecture, in coastal Maritime region. The families had been driven out of their homes by rising water-levels and set up camp on elevated highways. The TRC was also engaged in preparing evacuation sites, and it delivered two canoes – one for Togbavi and one for Azimé Dosou village – to facilitate possible evacuations. The latest distribution included, for each household, a tarpaulin and a mosquito net, two sleeping mats, as well as buckets and soap. It was the latest stage in an FbF sequence that was triggered two weeks ago by alerts from dam operators and the hydrological ‘FUNES’ prediction system, which the Togolese and German Red Cross has been helping to refine. The distribution was planned with Togo’s National Agency for Civil Protection, and the TRC president M. Gagno Norbert Paniah and local officials took part. “On behalf of the community we thank the Togolese and German Red Cross for this assistance, most of all for the canoe, which will help us to cross the waters and evacuate the people safely,” said Togbavi Chief Gbedassi. In collaboration with dam operators, the Togolese and German Red Cross team were closely monitoring discharge rates and water-levels at the dam for weeks. In a daily conference call, the Red Cross get data on the actual volume in the lake above the dam, water flowing inwards, and planned discharges. Staff then monitor water levels in nearly 20 high-risk villages and a further 11 in a second category of risk. In late August 2017, in its first FbF operation of the rainy season, the TRC distributed Aquatabs and waterproof protection for household documents to just under 2,000 at-risk households in the first group. Participants from Berea College, Howard University, Kennesaw State University, and Morehouse College spent the final week of June at the University of Michigan College of Engineering Robotics Department participating in the Distributed Teaching Collaborative Summer Session in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The program, which began with the new Robotics 101 course in Fall 2020 being remotely taught to Morehouse and Spelman College students, enables instructors from different institutions, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs), to benefit from open-source resources available for new course development at R1 institutions. This collaboration provides students from HBCUs and MSIs with access to cutting-edge robotics education and helps promote equity in STEM fields.
In March of this year Robotics PhD student Jana Pavlasek and Professor Chad Jenkins were awarded the Claudia Joan Alexander Trailblazer Award for their work developing the new course for undergraduate students, Rob 102: Introduction to AI and Programming. Their commitment to creating opportunity in AI and Robotics continues to extend beyond the University of Michigan. In Fall 2023, Robotics 102 will be offered in this collaborative distributed format to the partner schools. This initiative will help to provide equitable opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to learn and grow in the field of robotics.

Distributed by Pilot Brands. Compared to all other wagyus or kobes I've had in the past, this was beautiful, having a great rich beef taste within its buttery flesh. It was still rich even if it's not as intensely marbled as other specimens of my past; good in small portions. I would have preferred that the pieces were cut thicker (i.e. double the current thickness) and cooked more to medium (due to the amount of fat in wagyu/kobe, it's really better served that way when the aromas and flavours can come through, even if I enjoy my "leaner" steaks rare or blue), an ideal way serve this breed of cattle (contrary to popular belief - think butter, so much better when warmed up (aroma, texture, taste) vs. hard out of the fridge).
Overall, I still prefer grass-fed aged AAA/longhorn beef. While kobe/waygu is great on its first bite, it does get a bit much. I like my steaks thick, dense (good chew) and full flavoured.
Update: here's Steve Dolinsky's take on the grass-fed wagyu.

Status: Common resident. Additional birds arrive from the Continent in winter.
Conservation Concern: Green-listed in Ireland. The European population is considered to be Secure.
Identification: About the same size as a Blackbird. Has a very upright stance in comparison to either Song Thrush or Blackbird. The face is white with some black markings, while the eye has a distinct white eyering. The crown, nape and back of the Mistle Thrush are plain brown. The throat and upper part are white with some black streaks. This is bordered by a brownish smudge across the breast, with the rest of the underparts white with black spots. The rump is pale grey-brown, while the tail is brown - the outer tail feathers being white. The legs are pink in contrast to the dark colouring of the Fieldfare.
Similar Species: Fieldfare, Song Thrush.
Call: The most commonly heard call is a loud, rattling “prrrrt”, usually given when a predator is spotted or another bird lands in a favoured berry tree. The song is very similar to that of the Blackbird, though less musical and the phrases are more widely spaced.
Diet: In winter, Mistle Thrushes feed mainly on berries and will vigorously defend a favoured tree from all other birds. Also feeds on insects and earthworms.
Breeding: Breeds throughout Ireland, though less commonly in the south. Mistle Thrushes are less frequently seen in suburban gardens than Blackbirds and Song Thrushes, favouring larger parks and rural areas.
Wintering: Irish Mistle Thrushes are resident, with some limited immigration of Continental birds.
Where to See: Common throughout Ireland.
Physical characteristics
Large thrush, with bold, upright carriage emphasized by length of tail, powerful bill, and sturdy legs. Combination of olive-grey-brown upperparts, large discrete black spots on underparts, and white underwing diagnostic. Noticeable pale area on lore and around eye, corners of tail almost white, obvious from behind. Flight not undulating despite frequent complete closure of wings. Sexes similar, little seasonal variation.
Habitat
Breeds in west Palearctic, historically in more continental upper band middle latitudes than other thrush, but has during last 200 years extended into oceanic zone, especially in Britain and Ireland. Despite bold abn robust appearance and conduct in wind and rain, is vulnerable to cold, especially snow and ice, and avoids arid and very warm areas. In mountain regions prefers middle altitudes. In boreal, temperate, and Mediterranean zones, widely but thinly distributed where is conjunction of stands of tall tree with open grassland or short herbage, not too close to human settlements and with ready access to seasonal berry fruits.
Other details
Turdus viscivorus is a widespread breeder across much of Europe, with >50% of its global breeding range occurring in the region. Its European breeding population is very large (>3,000,000 pairs), and was stable between 1970-1990. The species remained stable overall during 1990-2000, with increases in the sizeable German population at least partly compensating for declines elsewhere—notably in France and the United Kingdom. Crucially, the key population in Russia remained stable.
This thrush inhabits north-western Africa and a major part of Europe and western Asia, reaching India and Mongolia to the east. It breeds in coniferous forests, some deciduous forests and open habitats with isolated large trees. It has undergone a strong expansion at the beginning of this century, but is seems now to be stable and in a few regions a decline has even been reported. In southern and western Europe it is sedentary. The population of the European Union (12 Members States) is estimated at 1.2-2.2 million breeding pairs and the total European population at 1.8-4.1 pairs.
Feeding
Wide variety of invertebrates, in autumn and winter also berries. Feeds on ground and in trees and bushes. To take flying insects will fly up high in the air like Starling.
Conservation
This species has a large range, with an estimated global Extent of Occurrence of 10,000,000 km². It has a large global population, including an estimated 6,000,000-15,000,000 individuals in Europe (BirdLife International in prep.). Global population trends have not been quantified, but the species is not believed to approach the thresholds for the population decline criterion of the IUCN Red List (i.e. declining more than 30% in ten years or three generations). For these reasons, the species is evaluated as Least Concern. [conservation status from birdlife.org]
Breeding
Breeds April-June in West and Central Europe, February in Britain, late March in North Africa, April-May in Finland. Nest site is built on stout branch against trunk of tree, or on fork of horizontal branch, also on ledge of building, cliff-face, or bank. Nest is a large cup comprising 3 layers - outermost of sticks, grass, moss, and roots, loosely woven then compacted by middle layer of mud, often containing grass and leaves and some rotten wood which sometimes penetrates to outside of nest; thicker inner lining of fine grasses, sometimes with pine needles. 3-5 eggs, incubation 12-15 days, by female, rarely assisted by male.
Migration
Varies from migratory in north and east of range to sedentary or dispersive in west and south, though even in least migratory populations some birds make substantial movements. Some central and south European birds winter within breeding range of the relatively sedentary deichleri of north-west Africa, Corsica, and Sardinia. Main winter range of central European and Scandinavian birds extends from Belgium through western and southern France to north-east Spain. British birds tend to be sedentary or make movements of less than 50 km, though proportion travel considerably further, some to France. Autumn migration in Britain mainly August-November although juveniles and adults may form flocks in July and start to move south. Return to breeding areas in spring is early. First birds appear on central European breeding grounds in February. In central Sweden, average arrival date 27 March.

The skis are long and thin, to distribute the weight of the skier and allow the skier to move quickly. Typical ski dimensions are 2 metres in length, about 5 centimetres in width and one to four centimetres in thickness at different stations along the length of the ski. Depending on the ski design and purpose, they are fit to the skier based on height or weight. Cross country skis are sometimes informally known as "skinny skis" because of their thinness compared to alpine skis.
Like alpine skiing, cross-country skiers carry two poles, usually made of aluminium or fiberglass. More expensive poles are made of graphite or carbon fiber or some other strong but lightweight material. Poles have a spike at the end to provide a fixed pivot when the pole penetrates through to a hard surface, and a plastic web or disc (called the basket), to provide extra purchase in snow and to ensure the pole doesn't sink too deeply.
The toe of the skier's footwear is attached to the ski with a binding, while the heel remains free.
