Fulda Cathedral (Fuldaer Dom, also Sankt Salvator) is the former abbey church of Fulda Abbey and the burial place of Saint Boniface. Since 1752 it has also been the cathedral of the Diocese of Fulda, of which the Prince-Abbots of Fulda were created bishops. The abbey was dissolved in 1802 but the diocese and its cathedral have continued. The dedication is to Christ the Saviour (Latin: Salvator). The cathedral constitutes the high point of the Baroque district of Fulda, and is a symbol of the town.

About the Bell towers:

The facade is flanked by two towers 65 metres high, the four storeys of which are clearly delineated by ledges. Sandstone statues, greater than life size, by Andreas Balthasar Weber, represent to the right Saint Sturm as abbot, with a mitre, abbot's staff and book, and to the left Saint Boniface as bishop with a crook and a Bible pierced by a dagger. On the third storey are copper and gilt numerals and hands belonging to a mechanical clock and a sundial.

Four massive three-quarter columns accompanied by half-pilasters stand to either side of the main portal and support the architrave, the frieze with its triglyphs and the heavy cornices. On the architrave over segments of a round arch sit two large angels, supporting the arms of the Prince-Abbot Adalbert von Schleifras, sculpted by Balthasar Esterbauer, consisting of the arms of Fulda Abbey quartering those of von Schleifras.

The upper storey of the facade is divided by massive pillars. A large round-topped window is decorated with columns, inflexed arches and urns. The window is surrounded by sandstone sculptures representing the patron saints of Fulda, the twin brothers Simplicius and Faustinus, as knights. Their shields bear their symbol - three lilies - and the cross, the device of the abbey, both of which appear in the arms of the town of Fulda.

The central part of the facade is terminated by a triangular gable filled with urns and a round window. On the point of the gable stands a figure of Christ giving a blessing.

Because the rock consists of limestone (which is slowly dissolved by rainwater) more than 100 caves have formed in the rock. The most famous cave is St. Michael's Cave. The largest chamber in the cave, the Cathedral Cave, was long thought to be so large that it extended all the way to Africa. The Cathedral Cave is now regularly used for concerts and other events.

Archaeological research in Gorham's Cave and other caves has shown that the caves were inhabited by Neanderthals. More than 100 artifacts have been found in Gorham's Cave, dated between 24,000 and 28,000 years old. Plant and animal remains in the caves have shown that the Neanderthals had a varied diet.

” Where have the shadows gone. Maybe dissolved when daylight left. They come and go in light of day. They love to play their crazy games. Shadows of dames. All in relation to time. Strange creatures. They are just shadows. Turn off the light. They vanish. Turn on the light. They’re back. Their own position changes. In a perfect stance. By light enhanced. We are the free spirits in dark shadows. “

"Roll cloud" is a low, elongated cloud, which is part of the numerous types of accessory clouds of a storm front (Fractocumulus genus), which signals the "gust line", or the change of wind just before the arrival of precipitation, along the virtual lines of air convergence and thermal discontinuity.

On the sea, as on the plains, the Roll cloud, formed by colder and denser air than the one it finds, literally rolls (and rolls up) at low altitude, skimming the ground, which unlike other frontal clouds, can sometimes move away from the storm that generated it for many tens of kilometers, thus resulting, in such cases, a harmless windy residue, but, as in this case, in the interaction with a more marked orography it tends to become irregular and therefore to dissolve.

The Roll cloud in the photo was formed on the sea by condensing the cooler air descended, through rain and hail, from the considerable T-storm that brought the water of the whole month in less than 3 hours on all the areas facing the Gulf of Trieste.

Don't go far off, not even for a day, because --

because -- I don't know how to say it: a day is long

and I will be waiting for you, as in an empty station

when the trains are parked off somewhere else, asleep.

Don't leave me, even for an hour, because

then the little drops of anguish will all run together,

the smoke that roams looking for a home will drift

into me, choking my lost heart.

Oh, may your silhouette never dissolve on the beach;

may your eyelids never flutter into the empty distance.

Don't leave me for a second, my dearest,

because in that moment you'll have gone so far

I'll wander mazily over all the earth, asking,

Will you come back? Will you leave me here, dying?

----.

I had come too soon to the small square which I found deserted; while I was looking at the beautiful landscape, I saw a man coming from a path pulling a donkey loaded with an enormous burden by the halter.

Arriving right next to me, he stopped and began to unfasten the edges of the cloth that covered the load and then, with a quick gesture, he removed it and, to my surprise, at the same time a cloud of steam was released from the rump which immediately dissolved; it was the sweat of the poor beast.

Carefully spreading the sheet on the ground, he began to arrange the pieces of the load; they were artfully crafted clay products.

I immediately liked the pitcher characteristic of the place for the harmony of the workmanship and the beauty of the designs that adorned it and I bought it as a souvenir of the beautiful holiday in the Principality.

For few last days all the clouds were dissolving into nothing by the time of sunset. This evening it looked a bit more promising, so I decided to give it a go. This image of the setting sun over Bristol was taken from a small path off the Cotswold way, a 102-mile long National trail going through Bath and surrounding area. This route is popular with walkers and tourists and in addition too spectacular views overlooking the river Severn estuary and Bristol it also has a section that runs along the place where the battle of Lansdowne was fought in 1643 between Royalists and Parliamentarians during the First English Civil War en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lansdowne. This historical part of the route is well marked with battlefield markers at the top of Lansdown Hill, and include Sir Grenville’s Monument (www.flickr.com/photos/sergeysmirnov/50149930463/). They are a group of seven lagoons located in the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, at an altitude of 2,400 meters (8,000 feet). The lagoons are known for their crystal-clear turquoise waters and their stunning contrast with the surrounding white salt flat.

The Stone Lagoon (Laguna Piedra) is the only lagoon in the group that is open for swimming. The high concentration of salt in the water makes it very buoyant, so we can easily float on the surface. The other lagoons are not suitable for swimming, but they can be explored on foot or by kayak.

The Baltinache Lagoons are a popular tourist destination, but they are also a sacred site for the local Atacameño people. The lagoons are believed to be home to spirits and are used for traditional ceremonies.

Here are some interesting facts about the Stone and Baltinache Lagoons:

The lagoons are formed by underground springs that rise to the surface and dissolve the salt in the ground.

The water in the lagoons is very salty, even saltier than the ocean.

The lagoons are home to a variety of plants and animals, including algae, brine shrimp, and flamingos.

The Stone Lagoon is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and taking photos.

The other lagoons are not suitable for swimming, but they can be explored on foot or by kayak.

The Baltinache Lagoons are a sacred site for the local Atacameño people.

If you are planning to visit the Stone and Baltinache Lagoons, be sure to bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat. The sun is very strong in the Atacama Desert, and the salt in the water can be irritating to the skin. It is also important to bring plenty of water, as there are no stores or restaurants near the lagoons.

The Convent of Christ (Portuguese: Convento de Cristo/Mosteiro de Cristo) is a former Roman Catholic convent/monastery in the civil parish of Tomar (São João Baptista) e Santa Maria dos Olivais, in the Centrol region municipality of Tomar. Originally a 12th-century Templar stronghold, when the order was dissolved in the 14th century the Portuguese branch was turned into the Knights of the Order of Christ, that later supported Portugal's maritime discoveries of the 15th century. The Convent and Castle complex is a historic and cultural monument which was listed in the list of UNESCO World Heritage list in 1983.

The Macro Mondays theme for today, 9/6, is candy. This is a jolly rancher sour gummy. It’s in pretty close- since the gummy is about an inch long; i used a clip-on macro lens. Am liking this because the sugar crystals show up and also form the bokeh.....

But i also like the experiment fail, next in the photostream. i thought it would be cool to "tie-dye" a piece of cotton candy, using food coloring-- but dissolved it right quick ~grin~... who knows --when i wake up in the morning, i may decide to use the experiment one ~~giggling~~

The street becomes abstraction – the lines of the façade dissolve into patterns, the sky moves, everything is dissolving except the architectural structure in the background. You're photographing the movement itself, not the scene. It is a photo of distorted perception: this is how we see the world when we are not present, when we move too fast to fix our gaze.

I feel so Light, Nina Gordon

Down to the earth

I fell with dripping wings

Heavy things won't fly

And the sky might catch on fire

And burn the axis of the world

that's why I prefer a sunless sky

To the glittering and stinging in my eyes

I feel so light

This is all I wanna feel tonight

I feel so light

Tonight and the rest of my life

Gleaming in the dark sea

I'm as light as air floating there breathlessly

When the dream dissolves

I open up my eyes

I realize that

Everything is shoreless sea

A weightlessness is passing over me

I feel so light

This is all I wanna feel tonight

I feel so light

Tonight and the rest of my life

To the edge of the slain reeds you skulk

Where cold winds merge with your stealth

Bill like a tainted bayonet

waits patiently to strike

Your dappled plumage smothers the fen

and stalks your lonely haunts

Erect now this shadow of the reedbeds

dissolving into one next to still waters

Where the timid Water rail jerks

and the restless Rudd gather

Solitary hunter where Sedges bow

and the shifting silence uplifts the soul

You climb stems and rise on rounded wings

to seek out your solemn bastions

Melting away once more

as you vanish amongst your sacred refuge.
