I had so much fun with the Banned Books display this year becaue of the pirate theme. I even bought a poster and some items from ALA to include in the display, I liked this year's poster so I couldn't resist.

Nothing like seeing a gorgeous sunset display tonight. Skies have cleared just enough for us to enjoy this brief reprieve from the wildfire smoke... Large wildfires were still burning around the Bay Area at this time... Pic taken from around San Jose, CA. (Monday, August 24, 2020)
*Scenario of the Bay Area’s wildfire outbreak: A record-breaking heat wave combined with 13,000+ lightning strikes sparked 625 wildfires around NorCal. The storms were the result of moisture moving north from former Tropical Storm Fausto and the sizzling heat. Nearly 771,000 acres have burned across California during the past week, according to Cal Fire, as the fires moved quickly thru dry vegetation & threatened the edges of cities & towns. Many of the fires merged into "complexes" & spread out of control, burning homes, businesses & ancient redwoods in the Bay Area. The 3 major fire complexes currently raging are the CZU Lightning Complex Fire: San Mateo & Santa Cruz counties, the LNU Lightning Complex Fires: Napa, Sonoma, Solano, Yolo & Lake counties, & the SCU Lightning Complex Fires: Contra Costa, Alameda, Santa Clara, Stanislaus & San Joaquin counties. This is just the beginning of the state’s wildfire season. Despite the familiarity, the current fires & their speed & thick smoke has presented a new terror amid a global pandemic — poor air quality & concerns about evacuating masses of people to crowded shelters, & that some might not heed the warnings. The fires, spread across hundreds of miles, have presented an overwhelming challenge to the crews battling them as California has issued a nationwide call for help. Gov. Newsom said that California has secured a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant to help make sure enough resources are available to suppress the fires…

'Aggro' and his wife are two lorikeets who live near me who bully all the other lorikeets.
After being fed lots of sunflower seeds they seem a bit more relaxed than usual and seem to just chill out a bit and only push the other lorikeets around a little bit.
Apologies for some slight blurriness on the right side of the picture. One of the lorikeets licked my camera lens just before I took this vid.

Virginia National Guard Soldiers, Airmen and members of the Virginia Defense Force display some of the Guard’s warfighting and domestic operations capabilities Jan. 19, 2017, outside the Virginia General Assembly building in Richmond, Virginia. Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia. hosted a reception in the morning, and the Virginia National Guard Association and Virginia Guard Enlisted Association hosted a legislative reception in the evening at the Library of Virginia. Virginia Guard Soldiers, Airmen and VDF troopers were recognized in both the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates, and throughout the day Governor Terry McAuliffe, First Lady of Virginia Dorothy McAuliffe, Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Brian Moran and members of the General Assembly commended the Virginia Guard for the organization’s service to commonwealth and country throughout the year.
