Former SAGE Discount Store located at 3636 North Buckner Blvd. in Dallas,TX. The 85,000 square foot building is currently used as a storage facility operated by DFW Distribution. Note SAGE opened this location in November 1967, however in less than two years (September 1967) the building was sold to Medallion Discount Stores which was operating a successful store roughly seven miles away. The Medallion store remained open until 1975 at which point the building was converted into a large indoor flea market. The indoor flea market which operated under the name Big D Bazaar was open until the early 1990s. After the closure of the flea market the building was converted into its current use as a storage facility and distribution center.
Note SAGE was an acronym for "Serving All Government Employees". The store was originally not open to the general public but only those who had a government job. While there were a few discount store chains that were exclusive to "Government Employees" most had opened their stores to the public by the late 1960s.
Kmart Discount Store located at 603 Center St. in Auburn,ME. The store which opened on August 31st 1972 is slated to close in December 2019 according to a leaked company memo. With the impending closure of this store along with a Kmart in nearby Augusta the State of Maine will be without a functioning Kmart Discount Store for the first time in 47 years. This store had a Cottles Food Center on the left hand side of the building which closed by the early 1990s. The space where Cottles operated was incorporated into the Kmart Discount Store by the mid 1990s. The clothing department is currently located in the area where the grocery store operated.
Note that an article from the grand opening of this store mentions that police had to be called to direct traffic to this store since the parking lot surpassed its capacity of 700 cars.
These Dennis Dart SLF's/Plaxton Mini Pointer (MPD) are seen parked in their depot in Smethwick, on Bridge Street South. They are in the livery of Discount Travel Solutions. From left to right, they are SN51 SXU, NA52 AWZ and KV03 ZFW. SN51SXU was new in November 2001 to the then Transdev owned London United, as their DPK607. DKP 607 has also spent time with Herberts Travel and Carters, as their 251. NA52AWZ was new in December 2002 to Go-Wear Buses, a part of the Go-Ahead Group's Go North East operation. KV03ZFW was new in June 2003 to Tellings Golden Miller (TGM), Twickenham, as their 346 for use on the Heathrow Airport 555. It is a Transbus International example. It last operated with Abellio Surrey, as their 8093. Social Travel and Sunny Travel operate from the same depot, making me believe they are just the same company.

Former French Market Discount Store located at 9401 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park,KS. The massive building which totalled 171,000 square feet has been abandoned since December 2013. I have decided to use the excellent write-up done on the fantastic Pleasant Family Shopping blog...

My friend Vicky had a job in one of those furnature shops which come and go when the temprary lease ends but it closed even sooner because of Covid. The proprietors who were rarely there didn't like her having friends coming in but as you see that didn't stop me. I was wearing my best camel woolen Jaeger skirt and patent leather boots that day.
Former Kmart Discount Store located at 1300 South Cradduck Rd. in Ada,OK. The building has been sitting vacant since Kmart closed this store back in August 2001.
Every time I go pass the Knight street bridge, I always notice that there is a shop called Ralph's discount auto parts underneath the bridge called Anacis island.

Kmart Discount Store located at 2501 Red Wheat Dr. in Clinton,OK. As of December 27th 2018 this is the last Kmart operating in the State of Oklahoma. The store was well stocked in the clothing departments although other areas were lacking most notably the electronics department which had a mix of TVs and mattresses on display next to each other. The garden center had a few bags of dirt and a display of seed packs but no live plants available. The grocery department had the basic essentials (cereal, soda, crackers) but prices were not competitive with a nearby grocery store. There were six registers at the front end of the store but only one was open at noon with three people in line and no other employee looking very inclined to open a second register. This store opened in 1991 replacing a smaller location a few blocks away. The smaller store is currently occupied by an Atwood's Ranch and Home Store.
Former ALCO Discount Store located at 415 East St. John St. in Girard,KS. The building is currently occupied by a agricultural construction firm operating under the name Challenger Hyrdroseeding.
Note Alco opened this store in November 2006 and operated until January 2014.

Note the lack of customers even though I took these photos at 3:30pm on a Friday afternoon.
This building was built in 1989 as a Walmart discount store. In 2005 Walmart relocated across the road to a new supercenter. Since then this building has been split into Dunham's and Ruler Foods while the garden and auto centers are still empty.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

The building which is currently vacant was most recently occupied by a Western Themed dance hall which operated under the name Cowboy's Dance hall. The massive 103,000 square foot store opened on June 8th 1966 and remained in operation until 1994 when the building was converted into a dance hall.
