At the end of a solid black NS coal train is Conrail 495026. It seemed fitting to me to have a red car to bring up the rear like a discount caboose.

Medallion Discount Store located at 6464 East Northwest Hwy. in Dallas,TX. The 108,000 square foot building is currently occupied by a Target store.
Note Medallion opened this store on September 3rd 1962 and operated until August 12th 1976. After an extensive remodel the building was acquired by Target which officially opened for business in July 1977.
Note an estimated 100,000 shoppers came to the opening day of the massive discount store!
Its also worth noting the shopping center is still called the "Medallion Center" as of April 2022.
Kmart Discount Store located at 2501 Red Wheat Dr. in Clinton,OK. As of December 27th 2018 this is the last Kmart operating in the State of Oklahoma. The store was well stocked in the clothing departments although other areas were lacking most notably the electronics department which had a mix of TVs and mattresses on display next to each other. The garden center had a few bags of dirt and a display of seed packs but no live plants available. The grocery department had the basic essentials (cereal, soda, crackers) but prices were not competitive with a nearby grocery store. There were six registers at the front end of the store but only one was open at noon with three people in line and no other employee looking very inclined to open a second register. This store opened in 1991 replacing a smaller location a few blocks away. The smaller store is currently occupied by an Atwood's Ranch and Home Store.

The top one is the original Bonus Savings Club card from 1992, Beneath this is the original check cashing card that was used before it. The two bottom ones are associate employee discount card versions of the cards issued to customers.
unedited and edited K Dollar sign.
This store was built in 1993 as a Kmart. This Kmart was a larger store at 133,684 square feet. In 2001 this store was converted into a Super Kmart without the building being expanded. In 2009, the grocery section was removed and replaced with a Sears Outlet. The Kmart side became part of the short-lived K Dollar concept in very late 2012 or early 2013. The entire store was closed in December 2013.

A 1969 ad for a Zenith console entertainment center at Nichols Discount City in Lancaster Pa. This was the first Nichols Discount City store when it opened in 1960. Until that time S.E. Nichols operated smaller variety stores.
The poster, wrapped around a column, on the left depicts AKB48, a wildly popular female pop music phenomena that has 64 members divided into several groups. Its last 12 singles have hit #1 in Japan. The group even has its own theater in Akihabara where they perform daily. Because of the group's tremendous popularity, tickets usually can only be obtained by lottery. The 16 performers for each particular single are determined by fan vote and a rock-paper-scissor tournament. (Yes, really!)

The Flite is our most lightweight tree tent. This two-person tree tent is the perfect size for hiking and adventuring deep into the wilderness.
The Flite comes with only one ratchet to save on weight, and because of its handy size can be set up between most tree configurations - even in dense forest. We have worked hard to make the Flite the lightest two-person suspended camping solution you will find on the market. Go forth and experience a whole new level of freedom for your next camping adventure.
It features a full insect mesh top with 2 doors and a removable rain fly for unbeatable views. This rain fly can be pegged outwards to the ground, creating a covered porch area to become a multi-story camping base. The rain fly flaps can also be folded underneath the tent and hooked to each other, creating a second windbreak and a thermal buffer.
Due to the Flite's minimal size, the Flite is suitable for persons below 6'1"/184cm or 220lbs/100kg. Do look at our Connect Tree Tent if you are a larger individual.

Why Tentsile?
Because the World is not flat...
Tentsile combines the comfort and versatility of a hammock with the security and multi-person-occupancy of a tent. Our range of suspended shelters are unimpeded by wet, rocky or uneven ground conditions and will literally take your camping experience to a new level!
What is Tentsile?
At Tentsile, we create some of the world's most versatile tents. All our tree tents are made to be suspended over the ground, but in dry conditions can also be pitched on the ground like a conventional tent.
Whether you are looking for an all-terrain camping solution, a safari safe house, a mountain or beach retreat, or a portable treehouse that avoids all planning restrictions, with the Tentsile tree tent the sky really is the only limit.
What are the benefits?
The unique design provides comfortable and spacious accommodation in any environment. The Tentsile Stingray and Connect tree tents both come with a fully enclosed insect mesh roof (with opening doors) and removable rainfly sheets so you can enjoy the stars on a clear night! As our tents are designed to be suspended in tension, the tents are unaffected by topography or water, and they also provide increased separation from bugs, snakes and other, larger predators.
How's it made?
The elegant structure comprises an adjustable frame of 2.5 tonne webbing straps, a micro insect mesh roof, and a UV resistant, PU-coated and waterproof polyester fabric fly. The webbing frame is held in tension at each of the three anchor points by being ratcheted tight while internal floor straps divide the space into individual hammocks.
How can you use it?
All Tentsile tree tents provide shelter with no ecological footprint or environmental impact. We recommend that the tent is set up no higher than 1.2m/4 feet off the ground for ease of access and to minimise risk of injury. The Tentsile tree tents come with all the elements needed for instant set-up including an instruction manual.
Tentsile tree tents are adaptable for uses such as:
Camping, Expedition, Outdoor activities, Wildlife filming,
Scientific research, Festivals, Safari, Eco retreats, Humanitarian disaster relief, Conservation and more!

It is amazing this is still here. This hasn't been Harts since 1991 and Big Bear Plus hasn't operated here for over ten years now.
This opened on March 20th, 1974 as two separate Big Bear (grocery store) and Harts (discount store) stores. Both Big Bear and Harts was owned by Big Bear Stores; they were frequently built attached to each other but were still separate stores.
In 1988 Big Bear came out with a new concept called Big Bear Plus where both Harts and Big Bear were combined into one store. I recall one Big Bear Plus store I was in to be a lot like an older Kmart (it had a drop ceiling with the strips of exposed lighting) with a grocery store added into the existing store. Big Bear Plus stores were no where near the size of most supercenters / hypermarkets; they ranged in size from 70,000 square feet to 140,000 square feet. Most Big Bear Plus stores were around 100,000 square feet, give or take 10,000.
This Big Bear Plus store in Lancaster was 98,000 square feet after Harts and Big Bear stores combined here in mid 1991. All Harts stores not merged with a Big Bear grocery store were closed in the mid-1990s. There was another Big Bear grocery store on the other side of Lancaster but it had no attached Harts store., that store closed in 1999. This store was closed along with the rest of the Big Bear chain in 2004. Most of the building is currently empty but Tractor Supply Company has moved into part of the old Harts part of the store.

The historic discount department store Honest Ed's will be closing soon. For many years, new immigrants came here to buy cheaply-made stuff for very cheap prices. But those were the days before Wal-Mart, Costco and Canadian Tire. Slowly, people stop shopping here. Meanwhile, the downtown site right next to a metro/ subway station is prime location for re-development.
I took this view of Tri-Town Plaza in Marlton, NJ. in the 1980's. This was opened in 1975 as an enclosed mini-mall during that craze but was converted into a strip center in the early 1980's. Actually two photos pieced together. At the far right of the center is the store I work at, opened as A&P - when I was hired in 1983 it had just been converted into an A&P Super Fresh. The K mart is now a Sears.
