Discharged seed pods of Dog Strangling Vine (Cynanchum rossicum) in winter.
Native to Southern Europe, Dog Strangling Vine is a highly invasive plant in parts of North America . Although it is not known to strangle dogs, its thick mats of vegetation choke out native herbaceous plants and trees and threaten forest ecosystems.

The Self Discharging Bulk Carrier YEOMAN BANK is a real old-timer. The ship was built in 1982, making it 42 years old, which is quite unusual for a cargo ship. Most freighters are scrapped after 20 to 25 years.
The vessel arrived in Bremen with a load of 40000 Tons split from Glensanda, Scotland.

60083 ‘Shining Tor’ trundles west past Washwood Heath with one of Redland’ Self-Discharge Trains (SDT), probably returning empty as 6m31, the 0931 from Banbury to Mountsorrel.
In this time of the shadow freight companies, 60083 was operated by Mainline Freight. Beginning in June 1994, Mainline operated contracts originating geographically from the East Midlands and the South East, including traffic from the loading point at Mountsorrel in Leicestershire.
60083 had been in service for just over 3 years when I captured it here. Having been delivered in Railfreight Construction livery, by late 1994 it had lost its subsector markings ahead of carrying Mainline Freight branding.
The self-discharge train was introduced by Redland Aggregates in 1988 as an innovative solution for delivering aggregates to terminals with minimal facilities. The conventional appearance of the wagons hid a conveyor belt that ran under the length of the train. The stone was then moved onto a further conveyor on a specialist wagon fitted with a rotating boom, allowing direct loading into stockpiles.
The self-discharge trains ceased operating in 2016 after an accident: in June 2016 the rotating boom of one train stabled at Mountsorrel fouled the running line and hit a passenger train. The trains were subsequently stored and broken up in 2017.

At dusk on 4th November 2014, as the coal discharge teams take their authorised break, former Yugoslavian Railways 760mm gauge 0-8-2 No.83-158 waits beneath the tipping dock. One of the the fleet of three light industrial Class 720 0-4-0 diesel-hydraulic shunting locos, No.720-003, passes through the smoke and steam as it returns to the holding sidings.

70805 approaches the former Burton Salmon Jn., now the location where the routes to Castleford and Ferrybridge diverge, with 6D43 15.41 Jarrow Oil Terminal - Lindsey Oil Refinery discharged tanks. [Pole, 3/6 sections (~4m)]
After getting 37401 at Joan Croft, it was an easy move north for this - especially as it was running about twenty minutes late. I'd been warned about the copious vegetation growth between the two routes and that I'd need a telephoto lens. I looked at a more head-on angle, but realised I could stand wider if I had more height - so went back to the car to get the pole.
This is a long train, but the back is behind the trees on the left, not sticking out to the left of them.

Discharge between opposite charges in the cloud and on the ground. Cloud-to-ground lightning can either occur between negative charges in the cloud and positive charges on the ground (a negative flash) or between positive charges in the cloud and negative charges on the ground (a positive flash).
