"Beautiful Disaster"
He drowns in his dreams
An exquisite extreme I know
He's as damned as he seems
And more heaven than a heart could hold
And if I try to save him
My whole world could cave in
It just ain't right
It just ain't right
Oh and I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster
He's magic and myth
As strong as what I believe
A tragedy with
More damage than a soul should see
And do I try to change him?
So hard not to blame him
Hold on tight
Hold on tight
Oh 'cause I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster
I'm longing for love and the logical
But he's only happy hysterical
I'm waiting for some kind of miracle
Waited so long
So long
He's soft to the touch
But frayed at the ends, he breaks
He's never enough
And still he's more than I can take
Oh 'cause I don't know
I don't know what he's after
But he's so beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
And if I could hold on
Through the tears and the laughter
Would it be beautiful?
Or just a beautiful disaster
He's beautiful
Such a beautiful disaster
[fading]
Beautiful

Oh no, darling...those shoes simply won't do. This sexy ensemble veritably cries out for stiletto heels. And the thinner and higher....the better! 💖
Sigh...what would this poor girl do without my sage guidance? 😘
I have been wanting to try some 'splash' photography for a while now and this week's Macro Monday challenge provided the perfect opportunity as my daily routine starts with a bowl of cereals covered in ice-cold milk!
Technical: I poured milk into a 9-inch square, deep-sided dish to a depth of about 1/2 inch. I poured about a glass of milk into a small sandwich bag and suspended the bag above the dish and then poked a small hole into the sandwich bag to begin the stream of drips. My first attempt at poking a hole was a bit of a disaster as I was a tad over-zealous in the 'poking' and managed to push the pin right through the bag thereby creating a hole on both sides, which was also too large, and resulted in two streams of milk pouring onto the kitchen worktop and making quite a mess; luckily Mrs R was out for the afternoon! My second attempt was more 'delicate' and resulted in a single, smaller hole from which the milk dripped rather than poured. These drips were too fast to start with but slowed to a steady (and predictable) rate after a few moments (set up and camera / flash settings inspired by watching a YouTube video featuring Gavin Hoey - very helpful and saved me LOADS of time in wasted effort!). I had my off-camera flash positioned above the dish and bounced onto a white floor tile erected behind the milk dish to back-light and freeze the motion. The flash was set to 1/16 power. Then it was a case of trial and error with a hit-rate of about 1 in 4 keepers. This one I liked because it filled the frame and had some nice contrast and shapes.
Happy Macro Monday, everyone.
So how is this lovely dress possibly be a dress disaster? Well bear with me and I will regale you with a tale of woe as old as time itself…
We were packing for a two day event and my wife asked “what about the dresses?” My answer? “My dresses are in the car! Your dress is still on the back of the door. Don’t forget it.” What my wife heard... “Our dresses are in the car. Something, something, something. Forget about it”
Can you foresee the upcoming calamity?
Well I couldn’t. Not until about an hour before the ball when my better half asked me… “so where is my dress! You said they we all in the car!”
Oh dear… the absence of her dress did not go down well and neither did my pointing out that I had four dresses.
This led to her going on an emergency shopping trip during which she phoned me to say… “I’ve only found one dress that suits me. And it’s £95. IS THAT OK!!!”
“Yes’ yes it’s OK, it’s OK buy one! Buy several! Buy a whole fleet of them!”
A despite the sudden emptying of my purse I was still in the dog house but at least I know she won’t hold this against me. I know it because once she’d calmed down she told to forget about it and that she would never mention it again. And she obviously meant that because she brought it up and reminded me that she would never mention it again several times on the night and many times since.
I fear she’ll be reminding me that she’ll never mention it again until the end of time itself…
Jeremiah 18:11 “Now then, say to the men of Judah and to the citizens of Jerusalem, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Behold, I am shaping a disaster and working out a plan against you. Turn back, each of you from his evil way; correct your habits and change your actions for the better.”’”
I have three pictures left to post of the badlands.
Photography is just a journey like so many other things in life; we make mistakes, some of us more than others, but hopefully we learn from them and do things better next time.
It is always interesting to see how styles and techniques develop and evolve over the years. This image is from my earliest days of using a DSLR, a time when I thought pixels were those little creatures at the bottom of the garden and exposure compensation was just getting dressed in the morning before going out on a cold day. I’ve still no idea what those words mean but I have read them in a book, a book which is now doing a sterling job of keeping the coffee table level.
So this image, although being 8 years old, is still one of my all-time favourites and after a little encouragement I’ve given it a little tweak following my normal workflow these days; a few nips and tucks, adjusted highlights and shadows, a little bit of split toning, a spray tan and finally a slight crop.
It was originally posted with a pink border! What was I thinking? It brought to mind the time as a teenager when I had one of those Starsky jackets which I wore with bright red jeans and cowboy boots. OMG! You’re probably better not thinking about that for too long!
Sadly for you I have not got any photos, you really would fall off your chair!
So that raises the question; what has been your worst fashion disaster?
The music for today is just mainstream pop. It’s got very little to do with this image apart from the fact that I like the tune and the colours reminded me of this photo; see I’m from simple stock. The video is quite wacky too, like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on acid and purely by coincidence the track is by LSD!
Now before you get any ideas, I’m firmly in the Grange Hill corner, ‘Just Say No’.

On March 19, 2011 the Moon will pass by Earth at a distance of 356,577 kilometers 221,567 miles – the closest pass in 18 years. The name SuperMoon was coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979, defined as: “...a new or full moon which occurs with the Moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit perigee. In short, Earth, Moon and Sun are all in a line, with Moon in its nearest approach to Earth. The term supermoon is not widely accepted or used within the astronomy or scientific community, who prefer the term perigee-syzygy. The combined effect of the Sun and Moon on Earth's oceans, the tide, is greatest when the Moon is new or full. Supermoons exert an even stronger tidal force, resulting in more extreme high and low tides, but even at their most powerful this force is still considerably weak. Speculations of a link between the occurrence of supermoons and natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunami are extremely tenuous. Arguments have been made that natural disasters coinciding with years in which supermoons occurred were influenced by the Moon's increased gravitational strength, though because of the monthly alternation between lunar apogee and perigee such an argument cannot be supported unless the disaster in question falls on the actual date of the supermoon.

On the leftside the windmill of which the inside works is movable, build around 1572 and nowadays Robert-Jan Prins still take up residence.
snuck this in somewhere between the earthquake and hurricane here in NYC...the bronx STILL has spots that look like this believe it or not
Since Divebomb and Skyfighter are on Devastation Squadron, I had to give Natural Disaster a new teammate in the form of Cindros. Anyways, from left to right, we have Surf, Turf, Cindros, and Wrecking Ball (did it before Overwatch did)
Name: Dylan Cove
Gender: Male
Allegiance: Villain
Team Affiliation: N/A
Backstory: Dylan felt most at home when he's out in the sea, on his board. There's this connection there, more than he truly realized. He would end up joining a class, as he wanted to become a better surfer. It was there he met Chase Atlantic, who would later become a good friend of his. As time went on, Dylan would learn about his connection to the sea, and how he could control it in ways he never thought he could. He uses his abilities mostly as a way to gain popularity, allowing him to do some crazy tricks. He graduated from high school soon after, and was looking for a way to make quick easy money, as he wanted to set up his own surfboard shop. This is where he would end up becoming a criminal. It was during one of his first heists, where he would meet Angus Alexander, who would later be called Turf. They figured it would be better for them to team up, as there's strength in numbers. They aren't the most coordinate bunch though, as their clashing personalities often get in the way of the job, which leads to them getting caught. Dylan also likes to push Angus' buttons with his power, as Angus has a fear of water.
Name: Angus Alexander
Gender: Male
Allegiance: Villain
Team Affiliation: N/A
Backstory: While Dylan felt connected to the sea, Angus was more connected to the earth. During his childhood, he lost both of his parents in a boating accident. Due to this, Angus would develop a fear for water. Later, he would learn that it wasn't an accident like it was claimed to be. Full of anger, Angus would search for the ones responsible. It led to him pulling off heists for bad people, so that in return, he would be given information about the people who killed his parents. Him being able to manipulate the earth around him comes in handy while on the job, as it provides offence, as well as defensive capabilities. On one his most recent heists, he came across Dylan. When they decided to team up, they became the famous duo known as Surf n Turf. Well at least in Dylan's mind they were famous. Angus gets annoyed with Dylan's carefree attitude, which leads to conflict between the two. He also doesn't like Dylan's pranks, as it often reminds him of bad memories, which he would rather forget.
Name: Cindros
Gender: Male
Allegiance: Neutral
Backstory: Born of the union between Sindr (daughter of Surtr), and one of the Æsir, Cindros is considered half fire giant, half Æsir. As such, he never really fit in to either cultures, as he was only seen as a filthy halfbreed. He had to fight his way to survive, as his mother couldn't do much to help without alerting her father Surtr, who is the ruler of Muspelheim. Since Muspelheim is the realm of fire, Cindros developed a resistance to fire, in addition to the abilities he already possessed. He can create chains of fire, and whatever he touches catches on fire. Obviously, since he grew up around Eldjötnar (Fire Giants), his abilities weren't anything exciting, with them all being resistant to the flames. Overtime, he's been able to switch between two forms. These two forms being a fire giant form, and one that resembles that of humans. This human form would come in handy when Surtr would hear of his existence, and would banish him to Earth. Cindros tries to survive in this foreign land, while avoiding conflicts. In his fire giant form, he has complete control of fire, and in his human form, he has access to fiery chains which he can use as a weapon, along with his fiery touch.
Alias: Wrecking Ball
Name: N/A (But really, it's not important)
Gender: Male
Allegiance: Villain
Powers: Insanely high armour/density, and has a swing line he uses. Is able to leap quite high and far both vertically and horizontally.
Weapons: Himself as a human wrecking ball
Backstory: He likes to wreck things. Nuff said.

The PS Slocum, built in 1891, was a paddle boat or sidewheel passenger ship.
On June 15, 1904, St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church chartered the boat for an outing.
The passengers were from the German-American community of the Lower East Side. Most were women and children.
A fire started on the ship within a half hour of leaving dock and spread rapidly. The panic was horrific among the passengers as they faced death by drowning or being burned alive on the ship.
Only 321 passengers survived from the 1,358 on board. The final death count was 1,021. It was the worst disaster for New York City until 9/11.
These are the graves of the Bruning family: John - 44, Annie - 43 and Magdalene - 12.
The graves are in the All Faiths Cemetery in Central Western Queens.
The Middle Village - Metropolitan Avenue stop on the M-Line is near the cemetery's gate.
Memorial to the 57 men killed in the explosion in the Banbury seam at No.4 Pit, Sneyd Colliery, Burslem, 1st January 1942. It also commemorates the rescue teams who worked to try to save them and also recover the bodies. The official cause of the disaster was found to be that tubs had derailed and damaged an electric cable. Subsequent sparking has ignited coal dust and precipitated the explosion.
Cool your beans my son
You look a fucking mess

I leave tomorrow. I'm going to miss this fabulous light.
explored, thank you.
We are in December 2012 and we are now in countdown to the end of 2012.
There are natural disasters and man-made disasters here and there in the year of 2012. There are wars somewhere. There are serious economic problems in the different continents.
How is your 2012? I hope it is a good one for everyone.
If it is a not very good one, then let it go and we will look forward to 2013!
These are tiny wool woven caps (about one and an half inches long) I saw in the local supermarket.
Happy Sunday!
Site of the Eastland Disaster -On July 24, 1915, the ship rolled over onto her side while tied to a dock in the Chicago River.. A total of 844 passengers and crew were killed in what was the largest loss of life from a single shipwreck on the Great Lakes
The Chernobyl disaster, also referred to as the Chernobyl accident, was a catastrophic nuclear accident. It occurred on 26 April 1986 in the No.4 light water graphite moderated reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant near Pripyat, a town in northern Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic which was part of the Soviet Union (USSR).
The event occurred during a late-night safety test which simulated a station blackout power-failure and in which safety systems were deliberately turned off. A combination of inherent reactor design flaws and the reactor operators arranging the core in a manner contrary to the checklist for the test, eventually resulted in uncontrolled reaction conditions. Water flashed into steam generating a destructive steam explosion and a subsequent open-air graphite fire. This fire produced considerable updrafts for about nine days. These lofted plumes of fission products into the atmosphere. The estimated radioactive inventory that was released during this very hot fire phase approximately equalled in magnitude the airborne fission products released in the initial destructive explosion.Practically all of this radioactive material would then go on to fall-out/precipitate onto much of the surface of the western USSR and Europe.
The Chernobyl accident dominates the energy accidents sub-category, of most disastrous nuclear power plant accident in history, both in terms of cost and casualties. It is one of only two nuclear energy accidents classified as a level 7 event (the maximum classification) on the International Nuclear Event Scale, the other being the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in Japan in 2011. The struggle to safeguard against scenarios which were, at many times falsely, perceived as having the potential for greater catastrophe and the later decontamination efforts of the surroundings, ultimately involved over 500,000 workers and cost an estimated 18 billion rubles.
During the accident, blast effects caused 2 deaths within the facility, later 134 were hospitalized with acute radiation symptoms, of which 28 firemen and employees died in the days-to-months afterward from the effects of acute radiation syndrome, in addition, approximately 14 cancer deaths amongst this group of initially hospitalized survivors was to follow within the next ten years(1996) Whilst among the wider population, an excess of 15 childhood thyroid cancer deaths had been documented as of 2011. It will take further time and investigative funding to definitively determine the elevated relative risk of cancer amongst both the surviving employees and the population at large.
The remains of the No.4 reactor building were enclosed in a large cover which was named the "Object Shelter". It is often known as the sarcophagus, and its purpose is to reduce the spread of radioactivity from the wreckage and to protect the wreckage from the elements. It was finished in December 1986 at a time when what was left of the reactor was entering the cold shut-down phase; the enclosure was not intended as a radiation shield, but was built quickly as occupational safety for the crews of the other undamaged reactors at the power station, with No.3 continuing to produce electricity into 2000.
The accident motivated safety upgrades on all remaining Soviet-designed reactors in the RBMK (Chernobyl No.4) family, of which eleven continued to power electric grids as of 2013.
The safety history of coal mines, especially underground mines anywhere in the world has not been great. Thousands of miners have perished, probably hundreds of thousands all round the world. And not just coal either. Underground mining is an inherently dangerous business.
Queensland has not been immune by any means from these sad events.
The Moura-Kianga Mine in Central Queensland has experienced three tragic events and memorials exist both in the town and out at the mine sites themselves. After 1994 when the disaster shown in this shot occurred, underground mining ceased at this locality although it still occurs elsewhere in Queensland. All mining at this metallurgical mine site is now open cut.
In respect for the dead, while coal mining these days is very controversial, I ask you to keep those comments for another shot to come next week if you feel that way inclined. We won't make this one political or environmental. These men just went to work for their families and didn't come home that day or ever.
Moura No. 2 Mine disaster, 7 August 1994 - 11 dead
Other disasters at these mines
Kianga No. 1 Mine disaster, 20 September 1975 - 13 dead
Moura No. 4 Mine disaster, 16 July 1986 - 12 dead
Not all builds are meant to be carried downstairs and outside...
Thankfully this was on the return voyage.
Thought of doing a tornado/storm-ish photo but I was so uninspired that it just didn't work....
When I shot this I was actually doing something else but that also didn't work, the focus on the camera just wouldn't get my face sharp, the selftimer (I lost my remote!) didn't work halve the time etc etc, so I just started randomly putting things on my face and this really portrait (hihi) how I was feeling..
Tomorrow I'm going out to take photos of our tulip gardens all around our town so I hope my dark mood will get better and my photos will get lighter aswell! ;)
