Dims photos on Flickr

I was focusing on my favorite convenience store to photograph and I saw a biker coming into the frame and I decided to include him in the composition. I was really happy with the results even though the punctum of this photograph —what Roland Barthes defines as the aspect of an image that moves a viewer in a deep or emotional way— was intended to be the dimly lit Parklaine Variety sign.

This is the beauty of photography; one often arrives with a specific goal in mind but it is often the accidents or unplanned events that make an image stand out.

Some mornings it is later till the light is more dim, there are clouds and the sun is almost always low. The colors are fine and that is a big difference and I like the winter sky.

The lights in this old farm house that once shone on a young, busy family are forever dimmed. Yet on a quiet summer night if you listen with the ears of your heart, you can hear the faint sounds of children laughing, a dog barking, the slam of a screen door while inside the murmur of parent's voices now long gone cast a gentle security over the children's play.

A venerable GP38-2 leads an unusual train comprised of two random freight cars and a single dimensional load eastward along the Belleville Sub. It's seen next to a switch stand at Lovekin siding and a tree that was holding for dear life onto its remaining leaves.
