I've wanted to paint this photo for a long time as I love the expression on the little girl's face. I finally got around to doing it tonight as part of a "paint along" video I am making for a friend of mine. Painted in Corel Painter with brushes from the 2019 version (as that is what my friend has), together with a few of my own brushes. Added a couple of background veils and a patina from Heather the Painter to finish her off. I love how she has turned out. (Original photo from Pixabay).

So with this card, I set myself a challenge. Since Hero arts not only makes great stamps, but they also have digital images as well as Sillhouette cut shapes. I wanted to make a card that used all three of these elements. And here is one of the cards I came up with.
I cut the frame out of white CS and colored it with Pumice stone distress ink. I stamped the envelope pattern over this and sprayed it with perfect pearl water. I inked up my BG with distress inks and then stamped the envelope pattern with pearl water, I then stamped the bushes and grass images in different shades of brown and green. I sprayed that with pearl water. I printed the butterfly onto acetate and added some stickles. I added some pearls to finish it off :)
Doi Pui - Hmong Tribal Village (Thailand) is located on Doi Suthep, a 1676 meter high mountain. The village is about 4 kilometers away from Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep and despite being a key tourist attraction, and therefore probably not as authentic as it could be, it still offers an insight into how Thailand’s tribes live. The villagers wear traditional Hmong clothes, sell traditional Hmong handicrafts, and live in traditional Hmong-style homes.

Okay, so here's a question (as I'm not working until tonight, and so have some time to sit here in front of the computer, commanding the internet to entertain me):
Is it better for new photographers to use digital or film? Does it make a difference?
Been giving digital & film a lot of thought lately, obviously, and the other day I was talking it over with a friend who's not a photographer, explaining to him the differences, the different challenges and limitations of both.
I'm of the opinion, and this is of course colored by my own experience, that film is better for new folk, that it's the specific limitations of film that help a budding photographer prioritize, and through that, begin to carve out a style.
Having to decide what shots you just HAVE to take, because there's only 36 frames, which shots do you really want, which shots are the most important.
But i'm open to other points of view, as long as they agree with me 100%.
gracie and reggie the rooster
reggie will continue living in the greenhouse, pooping on the floor and eating my plants until we can figure out where to put him. [not in a stock pot]
as I said yesterday, I am out of polaroid film so I dug out my digital camera; there will be a glut of digitals for awhile.
I don't care much for digital, I don't feel like part of the process of picture making.
but in a pinch... so...

sorry.

I've learned everything from the HA blog and my flickr friends. I've learned to make my own background paper (here by repeatedly stamping the little stamp from the Mix and Match set). I've learned how to accessorise a card with the right amount of bling :). And best of all, I've learned what a hybrid card is and how much fun they can be. Thank GOODNESS for Hero Arts.

2 shots taken from almost the same spot in Ramsgate. One with a Fuji X100 digital camera and the other with a Praktica BC-1 with a 50mm F1.8 Lens loaded with Ilford Film.
I've been press-ganged into doing the illustration work for our company Christmas card again this year, and had to bring in Photoshop/the graphics tablet. Doodled this picture of one of my colleagues eating his lunch while waiting for the boss(es) to say yay or nay on the card design (which is nowhere near as cool as last year's... www.flickr.com/photos/pseudanonymous/15855116969/in/album...)
Digital clock at junction of Berliner Strasse and Paracelsus Strasse, looking towards the Wasserturm Nord, 18.52. The same design of clock was also used at Halle Südstadt (see following link).

I think the Barkas B1000 van in the picture is an ambulance and you can see the blue smoke from the exhaust of its two stroke engine.
A shot of the same location from 1994 can be seen in the following link.

This clock, after several attempts by the city council to minimize its impact on its surroundings, was replaced in 2009 by an inocuous analogue clock that had very small hands and which had no impact at all.
