this is where I tried to make some points about the digital divide; my life is ridiculous sometimes.
More than 70 policy-makers, educators, community leaders and stakeholders convened September 13 to address digital inequity in North Carolina, focusing on the homework gap: the difficulty or inability of students who lack high-speed internet connectivity at home to complete homework assignments, compared to their classmates with access.
The North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NC DIT) Broadband Infrastructure Office (BIO) and the William Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, at North Carolina State University, hosted the “2017 Homework Gap Convening.”

This is the $100 dollar laptop passed around by Brewster Kahle at the plenary. It has a rotatable screen that turns it into an eBook, which can then be used to view scans of books from the Internet Archive's scanning project. Pretty cool.

Beyond Access Member teams representing twelve countries in Asia and Europe gathered in Indonesia to share their successes, challenges, and visions about the role of modern libraries in their communities. Participants came from vastly different countries in terms of culture, level of development, and political environment. Yet they shared many of the same challenges, and more importantly, they shared a commitment to the role libraries play in their communities.

Dean Davis represents the College of Menominee Nation and the ARRA-funded Wisconsin broadband project, Building Community Capacity through Broadband, at the 2012 South by Southwest Interactive festival. The panel, "Popping your bubble: stories of the digital divide," was one chosen from a pool of 4,500 other panel contenders.
