Beyond Access Member teams representing twelve countries in Asia and Europe gathered in Indonesia to share their successes, challenges, and visions about the role of modern libraries in their communities. Participants came from vastly different countries in terms of culture, level of development, and political environment. Yet they shared many of the same challenges, and more importantly, they shared a commitment to the role libraries play in their communities.

More than 70 policy-makers, educators, community leaders and stakeholders convened September 13 to address digital inequity in North Carolina, focusing on the homework gap: the difficulty or inability of students who lack high-speed internet connectivity at home to complete homework assignments, compared to their classmates with access.
The North Carolina Department of Information Technology (NC DIT) Broadband Infrastructure Office (BIO) and the William Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, at North Carolina State University, hosted the “2017 Homework Gap Convening.”

It is not only people in rural area that need a telecentre, but city people as well. A commercial Internet cafe at a mall in Bangkok provide services for those without Internet access at home (which is in fact many), travellers/tourist and visitors to be digitally connected.
