"Pepsi was first invented in 1893 as "Brad's Drink" by Caleb Bradham, who sold the drink at his drugstore in New Bern, North Carolina.

It was renamed Pepsi-Cola in 1898, "Pepsi" because it was advertised to relieve dyspepsia (indigestion) and "Cola" referring to the cola flavor. Some have also suggested that "Pepsi" may have been a reference to the drink aiding digestion like the digestive enzyme pepsin, but pepsin itself was never used as an ingredient to Pepsi-Cola.

New Bern, formerly called Newbern, is a city in Craven County, North Carolina, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 29,524, which had risen to an estimated 29,994 as of 2019. It is the county seat of Craven County and the principal city of the New Bern Metropolitan Statistical Area.

It is located at the confluence of the Neuse and the Trent rivers, near the North Carolina coast. It lies 112 miles (180 km) east of Raleigh, 80 miles (130 km) north of Wilmington, and 162 miles (261 km) south of Norfolk. New Bern is the birthplace of Pepsi.

New Bern was founded in October 1710 by the Palatines and Swiss under the leadership of Christoph von Graffenried. The new colonists named their settlement after Bern, the Swiss region from which many of the colonists and their patron had emigrated. The flag and arms of the American city are virtually identical to those of the Swiss canton. The English connection with Switzerland had been established by some Marian exiles who sought refuge in Protestant parts of Switzerland. There were also marriages between the House of Stuart and notable people in the history of Calvinism. The colonists later discovered they had started their settlement on the site of a former Tuscarora village named Chattoka. This caused conflicts with the Tuscaroras who were in the area.

New Bern is the second-oldest European settled colonial town in North Carolina, after Bath. It served as the capital of North Carolina from 1770 to 1792. After the American Revolution (1775–1783), New Bern became wealthy and quickly developed a rich cultural life. At one time New Bern was called "the Athens of the South," renowned for its Masonic Temple and Athens Theater. These are both still very active today.

New Bern has four historic districts listed on the National Register of Historic Places; their numerous contributing buildings include residences, stores and churches dating back to the early eighteenth century. Within walking distance of the waterfront are more than 164 homes and buildings listed on the National Register. Also nearby are several bed and breakfasts, hotels, restaurants, banks, antiques stores and specialty shops. The historic districts contain many of the city's 2,000 crape myrtles—its official flower—and developed gardens. New Bern has two "Local Historic Districts", a municipal zoning overlay that affords legal protection to the exteriors of New Bern's historic structures." - info from Wikipedia.

The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.

The thought of indigestion is far away..

It helps the digestion

Breaking the fast is the critical phase for a healthy fasting! Here are the reasons behind this recommendation:

.

🌙 Dates have high cabohydrates which is essential for boosting your energy after the long fasting hours

🌙Dates are extremely rich in fibers which will aid and improve digestion.

🌙 The key to breaking your fast is ensuring adequate hydration💦💦. Dates have very high levels of potassium- a key re-hydration mineral and their carbohydrate blend enhances hydration beyond water alone.

🌙 Your brain needs at least 15-20minutes ⏰to start feeling full. Eating all the food at once will lead to overeating and won’t give the chance to your body to feel satisfied.

🌙 Dates are rich in calories --- 3 is a perfect portion.

.

.

Lymph is the fluid that goes through the lymphatic system, a vital part of the circulatory and immune systems.

Reduces swelling- When lymph fluid builds up it causes swelling in the legs, ankles, arms and other areas.

Detoxifies the body - by flushing out toxins and waste products, the body eliminates a level of toxins and as a result boosts energy levels.

Supports immune health: A healthy immune system allows for a stronger ability to fight off infections.

Relieves pain: Can relieve the discomfort accompanied with conditions such as fibromyalgia, arthritis or muscle soreness.

Improves circulation: Increases blood flow and lymph circulation, efficiently providing oxygen and tissues.

Water filtration systems are good for your health. The benefits are ten-fold, with skin hydration, nutrient absorption, weight loss, detoxification, digestion and a reduction in the risk of cancer. Drinking pure water helps to support the immune system and mental health function.

The delivery of clean water to our homes is one of the hallmarks of modern civilization. Modern water systems test and treat water to ensure it’s safe for all of our needs — drinking, cooking, cleaning, and more. You want to be sure that the water we use is as pure as possible, and a practical way to ensure that is to add a water filtration system to your home.

Enjoy safe drinking water all the time. The consequences of having unsafe drinking water can be dire. Pollutants like heavy metals can have profound health consequences at worst, or at best make your water unpalatable. While the vast majority of municipal water systems in the United States do an excellent job of treating our water, there is always the danger of system failures, so it’s best to be safe. If you filter your water with an effective home water filtration system you’re making a smart investment in the health of your family.

Save money. If you’re buying bottled water for your family to use at home the costs can add up quickly. For the average family drinking 2-3 bottles of water a day, annual costs can easily exceed $500. That’s money can be recouped in a timely fashion after you install a water filtration system in your home. And there’s another drawback to bottled water…

Reduces lime scale and other mineral deposits. If you’ve ever looked at the bottom of an old tea kettle, you may have noticed white, chalky deposits on the bottom. That’s timescale, the buildup of minerals from lime and other minerals in your water. In addition to being unattractive, timescale can build up in pipes and appliances, and it often makes your water taste unpleasant. A quality whole-home water filtration system will alleviate many of the issues associated with limescale, and give you better tasting water as well.

Improve the taste of your drinking water. Water is one of the best fluids for your body, and adding more water to your diet can have real benefits for your overall health. So why not enjoy the best tasting water? With a water filtration system in your home, you’ll enjoy the clean, crisp taste of pure water, every time you open your tap.

Rosemary is also suitable as a detiring, to stimulate people who suffer from asthenia, while acting preventively against insomnia. It has antiseptic qualities that make it a good agent to clean the skin and sensitive areas or act directly on infected wounds. It can also be used for its antitussive power.

History of the use of rosemary in herbal medicine

The use of rosemary in perfumery dates back to the 14th century. We then lend to the water of Hungary, the first alcoholic fragrance that has been identified and made up mainly of rosemary, the powers of water of youth. In fact, the legend claims that Rosemary has allowed Elisabeth of Poland, cured of her paralysis and her arthritis problems, to become Queen of Hungary, seducing the king, despite her 72 years. However, he was given stimulating effects on brain activity from ancient Greece. It is for this reason that the Greek intellectuals ceignaient their heads of crowns of Rosemary. Also used empirically, as a remedy for many ailments, the honey of Narbonne, derived from rosemary, found a place of choice in the marine Pharmacopoeia in the eighteenth century.

Closer to us in the nineteenth century, the Doctor and German Catholic priest Sebastian Kneipp, who actively contributed to the development of Phytotherapy, prescribing to the elderly, rosemary baths. They could thus fight against many conditions: general weakness, eye fatigue, hypotonia, hypotension, hypercholesterolemia, cirrhosis, physical and intellectual overwork, with loss of memory, heart problems of origin Nervous, syncope, rheumatism or paralysis.

Botanical Description of Rosemary

A rocky shrub in the wild, the rosemary, from the family Lamiaceae, can reach 2 m in height, in cultivation. It is recognized, easily, all year round, erected in the middle of the Mediterranean bushes: its evergreen leaves are wrapped on their edges. They are much longer than wide, with a dark green color, shining on their upper face and whitish tint on the underside. rosemary flowers, most often of a purplish blue hue (whites are rarer) are aggregate in short clusters from February to May. the calyx of rosemary has a fluffy appearance, the Corolla is bilabiate and has four stamens, two of which exceed the upper lip. The fruit of the rosemary, of globose form, is a brown tétrakène.

Composition of Rosemary

Used Parts

It is the leaves, the flowering tops, that we will have taken care to dry, or the essential oil that are used in herbal medicine.

Active principles

Its essential oils contain the essences of camphor, cineole, Verbenone or Pinenes. The rosemary contains flavonoids (diosmin, luteolin), diterpenes, such as rosmadial and carnosolique acid, but also lipids (alkanes and alkenes). Steroids and triterpenes (aléanolique acid, ursotique acid) and phenolic acids (rosmarinic acid, chlorogenic acid) are also found. Phytoestrogens have similar effects to female hormones.

Use and dosage of rosemary

Determination

by internal means:

-In infusion, 2 g dried rosemary leaves in 150 ml of boiling water, for 10 min, at a rate of 2-3 cups per day.

-In liquid extract, 2 ml, 3 times a day.

-In tincture, 10 ml, 3 times a day.

-In essential oil, it is recommended to take 2 drops of rosemary to verbenone, on a piece of sugar, each morning. A 3-week cure is intended to stimulate liver and gallbladder activity. The essential oil from Rosemary to camphor is recommended to balance the neuromuscular system. Finally, the essential oil to Cineole has expectorant properties (of rosemery).

by external means:

Rosemary is then used for rheumatism and stimulation of peripheral blood circulation.

-To prepare the basic decoction, simmer 50 g of Rosemary in 1 liter of water, for 10 min, let cool and then filter the preparation.

-Hot or cold compresses, soaked in a solution of 6 to 10% of essential oil diluted in vegetable oil, can also be applied to the parts to be treated.

-To obtain an effective rub lotion, a few drops of essential oil can be mixed in 45% alcohol.

-a bath, for stimulating purposes, made from a liter of decoction or 10 drops of essential oil of rosemary added to the water, will be rather recommended in the morning.

-Lotions, ointments, gels or ointments contain, in principle, 6 to 10% of essential oil of rosemary.

Precautions for use of rosemary

At the indicated doses, it is safe. However, it can be warned against high-dose use of cineole essential oil of rosemary, which could have a neurotoxic or abortifacient effect.

Contraindications

Taken orally, it is contraindicated for children under the age of 12 and for people with gallstones or liver disease. Apart from cooking, it is also not recommended for pregnant or lactating women.

Side effects

At normal doses, the only risks can be nausea. People working with Rosemary have been able to develop contact eczema. An important overdose can cause vomiting, convulsions, spasms, bleeding from the uterus, or even fatal coma.

INTERACTIONS with medicinal plants or supplements

No known interaction.

Drug INTERACTIONS

In theory, Rosemary can interact with diuretic drugs and iron supplements, but nothing has been observed in practice.

Doctor’s opinion

Recognized benefits

Professor Hostettmann, a well-known phytotherapist, points out that, in addition to its listed properties, Rosemary improves concentration. He illustrated his remarks in the book he published in 2013, all about anti-ageing plants, indicating that the forehead and temples of children were rubbed during ancient Greece to make them more intelligent.

Warning

In the preparation of the decoctions, it is advisable to consult your doctor or pharmacist, to check the correct dosages and to ensure that the recommended doses are respected.

Research on Rosemary

If the use of Rosemary is based more on experience over the centuries, more recent studies focus on the benefit it could bring by its antioxidant effects, in the treatment of certain cancers.

I wanted to illustrate the pressure the media puts on people, especially women. The model's eyes have been replaced with images from magazines, symbolizing the digestion of the media's messages; parts of her body have been replaced with food items to represent the way women are treated as objects for consumption; her midsection has an hourglass overlay, which is a visual representation of both the classic "hourglass" figure most women strive for, and also the shelf-life of youth, which is so valued in society; she stands in front of a TV and a magazine, which obviously represent the media she's exposed to every day. The television screen has a close-up picture of sequined Converse sneaker (with a rainbow overlay for extra prettiness) to symbolize how the general public will accept anything that is pretty or sugar-coated and accept it without question, even if it harms them.

Kennington Park is a public park in Kennington, south London. It was opened in 1854 on the site of what had been Kennington Common, where the Chartists gathered for their biggest "monster rally" on the 10th. April 1848.

Soon after this demonstration the common was enclosed and, sponsored by the royal family, made into a public park.

Kennington Common was a site of public executions until 1800 as well as being an area for public speaking. Some of the most illustrious orators to speak here were Methodist founders George Whitefield and John Wesley who is reputed to have attracted a crowd of 30,000.

The common was one of the earliest London cricket venues and is known to have been used for top-class matches in 1724.

The Water Fountain

The Felix Slade drinking water fountain in the park was designed by Charles Henry Driver.

Slade donated the fountain in 1862 after feeling sorry for the local children who had to take their refreshment from the cab horse trough.

The Bombing of an Air Raid Shelter

On the 15th. October 1940, a public bomb shelter dug as a grid of trenches in the park, suffered a direct hit during the Blitz.

An estimated 104 people were killed. Only 50 bodies could be identified by name. Due to treacherous wet ground conditions, with the shelter walls collapsing on rescuers, the remains of up to another 54 local people were left in the ground, covered in lime, and the trenches filled in.

Adolphe Rabinovitch

So what else happened on the day that the card was posted>

Well, the 27th. May 1918 marked the birth in Moscow of Adolphe (AKA Alec) Rabinovitch.

He was a Special Operations Executive officer in France during the Second World War. He rose to the rank of captain.

The Early Years

Born to a family of Jewish extraction in Russia and raised in Egypt, he studied in Paris and lived in the United States before the outbreak of the war. He was a junior wrestling and boxing champion in his youth, and has been described as a 'Giant of a man'.

World War II

In 1939 he volunteered to join the French Foreign Legion. He was taken prisoner by the Germans in June 1940, but escaped after three months.

He then moved to Great Britain and became an SOE agent. Rabinovitch was described by a trainer as 'Argumentative and humourless, an enigma'.

He first parachuted into France on the 27th. August 1942 north of Grenoble. He was dropped in the wrong place, and became a radio operator for the SPINDLE network (code-named "Arnaud"), with Peter Churchill and Odette Sansom, and managed to evade capture when that network collapsed.

With Victor Hazan (code-name "Gervais"), he got back in contact with the network's contacts around Annecy and on the Côte d’Azur before returning to England via Spain. There he became the assistant to Jean de Lattre de Tassigny before being parachuted back into France on the night of the 2nd. March 1944 with Roméo Sabourin.

Death

His orders were to set up and command the BARGEE network, but the landing site was under German control and he was wounded and captured as he landed. Because he was a Jew, he was deported to Rawicz extermination camp in Poland, where he was gassed and cremated.

Peter Churchill dedicated his book 'Duel of Wits' to:

'My beloved Arnaud, the late Captain

Alec Rabinovitch, a violent, difficult,

devoted and heroic radio operator, and

through him to all 'underground' men

and women of his supreme calibre who

died, as they lived, in solitude.

Their feats are legendary and beyond

all military awards."

In the 1950 British film 'Odette' he was played by Peter Ustinov.

Close view of a bunch of Chinese Sumac in Pharung village in Manipur, NE India. Locally called Heimang, sumac is a wonder fruit which the locals use as a stomach cleanser and a digestion aid. The fruit itself is super sour, but they make a paste out of it and add sugar to kill the sourness. It does work wonders- I had a dose of it last night and it did clear up my stomach completely this morning. My hosts pointed out this bunch to me as we are walking around Pharung village in Manipur in NE India, generally exploring the villaga and it's surrounding area. My son and I have traveled here to attend a wedding which took place the previous day. (see previous pictures earlier in this album). (Pharung Village near Ukhrul, Manipur, NE India, Jan. 2020)

Me di

Casi

siempre lloraba. Y me sentía indigno. ¿No tenía fuerzas suficientes para

vivir allí, darle cara a la vida militar? No, me dijo nuestro capitán una

vez.

me contuve. No podía. No debía.

aguantar.

Goat force is immune to poison oak.

Dairy goats that eat poison oak do not transfer detectible amounts of the toxic principle, urushiol, to the milk or to the urine. This oily, toxic irritant is found in goat manure at less than 9% of its concentration in poison oak leaves. How does this happen? ucanr.edu/repositoryfiles/ca4603p4-69619.pdf
