Yes, well ... I took up my offer yesterday of a free coffee and cake - given by The Old Railway Line Garden Centre at Three Cocks, Wales. (A birthday offer as I hold a loyalty card with them.) My birthday being on 20 Jan - we are hoping to have the day out - so got this pitstop in to make sure it wasn't wasted!
This is the second cup of coffee as I managed to spill the first one all over the table when I sat down!! So Mr T had to go up and get another for which he paid .... I suppose there is no such thing as a "free lunch". Still - we enjoyed our break from the diet . The restaurant there is excellent and the food always of a high standard.
Back on the 5-2 diet today - a fasting day (still eating - just drastically reduced calories!)

Dietes iridioides, also known as the African iris, is a perennial flowering plant native to southern and eastern Africa. It is a member of the Iridaceae family and is closely related to the iris. The African iris typically grows to be 1-2 feet tall and features clumps of long, slender leaves that are sword-shaped and green in color. The plant produces a profusion of delicate, iris-like flowers on long, wiry stems that can be up to 3 feet tall. The flowers are white with yellow and violet markings, and each blossom lasts only for a day. Dietes iridioides is a hardy plant that can tolerate a range of growing conditions, from full sun to partial shade and a variety of soil types. The bearded vulture diet consists almost exclusively of bones.
One of the most essential bearded vulture facts is that almost the entirety of their diet consists of animal bones. Specifically, bone marrow makes up 85–90% of their diet. The lammergeier is the only bird on Earth that specializes in eating bone marrow.
These scavengers pick up the bones of dead animals, preferring medium-sized mammals. They also prefer dried, brittle bones rather than fresh ones. Their elastic esophagi allow them to swallow bones with ease. If a lammergeier cannot swallow a bone whole, it picks the bone up with its large talons. It then attempts to break it by repeatedly dropping it from a great height onto hard surfaces, such as rocks. This process allows the ossifrage to access the calorie-rich bone marrow.
Bearded vultures typically roam in places with healthy populations of predators such as wolves and eagles, and they pick up the bones of the prey after the predators have stripped off most of the meat. Unlike most baby vultures, which feed by eating their parents’ “vomit”, baby bearded vultures need to eat the scraps of meat and skin that their parents provide. Adult bearded vultures, however, usually disdain the taste of meat and mostly feed on carrion during the breeding season.

2021: Gesundheit, Frieden, Normalität

STATEMENT
Gallin/gc. Die seit Januar 2020 auch in Deutschland anhaltende Corona-Pandemie hat über das gesamte Jahr sämtliche Diskussionen und das politische wie wirtschaftliche Handeln bestimmt. Durch die Corona-Pandemie war 2020 für die Bürger und Unternehmer ein schweres Jahr.
Man musste auf viele Dinge verzichten. Viele Menschen haben in dieser Zeit ihre Aufgaben besonders gut erfüllt, um die Bevölkerung zu schützen, zu versorgen und die Hygienevorgaben einzuhalten. Auch das Gemeindeleben lief nicht wie geplant. Das kulturelle Leben kam zum Erliegen. Es wurden aber trotzdem einige Projekte durch die Mitglieder der Gemeindevertretung umgesetzt. So wurde zum Beispiel die Brandschutzbedarfsplanung beschlossen. Der Grundsatzbeschluss zum Kauf eines Tanklöschfahrzeugs TLF 4000 es wurden neben anderen Beschlüsse für die Planungen gefasst. Der Fahrrad- und Wanderweg am Hof-Galliner Graben wurde realisiert. Das war eine gemeindliche Maßnahme der Dorferneuerung. Ferner hatte die Gemeinde die Entgeltverhandlung mit dem Landkreis über die Kosten der Kita erfolgreich beendet.
Für das neue Jahr 2021 wünsche ich mir Gesundheit und Frieden auf der Welt. Ich hoffe, dass das Leben in der Gemeinde Gallin wieder für alle Bürger an Normalität gewinnt und das kulturelle Leben mit neuem Elan gelebt werden kann. Mögen die Unternehmen die Corona-Pandemie ohne Verluste oder Konkurse überstehen. Vor dem Hintergrund der Erfahrung aus der Pandemie sollten die Länder den Föderalismus reformieren. Die Länder tun sich schwer, bestimmte Gesetze bundeseinheitlich zu gestalten. Wichtige Fachgebiete, wie zum Beispiel die Bildung und die Gesundheit, sollten einheitlich gehandhabt werden. Allen Einwohnern und den Gewerbetreibenden unserer Gemeinde Gallin wünsche ich auch im Namen der Mitglieder der Gemeindevertretung ein gesundes und erfolgreiches neues Jahr 2021. Klaus-Dieter Müller
