Maintaining an edge is one thing, but letting our edge in innovation dull has repercussions for the amount of food we can produce, the quality of life we live, and the potential for the next thing that will change the world. Are we keeping pace? Is Are the private sector, government, and the academy disrupting enough to innovate more or is there a stagnation that threatens continued development? Are certain parts of the world innovating better than other parts, who are the major catalyzers, and where does the intersection of technology and biology come into play?

Rockville Maryland, January 5, 2019.
One month and two days after being sworn in, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich meets with over two hundred activists and supporters associated with the Progressive Alliance. This coalition, the brainchild of Takoma Park farmer Mike Tabor, is comprised of members from Progressive Maryland, Progressive Neighbors, Our Revolution MOCO and the MOCO chapter of the Democratic Socialists Of America. These are the folks who worked the streets and got Marc elected. Issues discussed here today included affordable housing, economic development, education policy, environment and police accountability.

All from the same floret, the ones near the bottom mature faster than those at the top of the spike. Earliest development only show the anthers (central floret has fully developed anthers), later florets (to the right) show well developed stigma. The last one on the right has three stigma, which I think is more unusual.
For an idea of scale, the background is velcro hoops.
