Finally all ten new Actors teams met in Berlin! In December 2015 the 30 new participants not only presented their projects but also rolled up their sleeves to further develop and refine them. For this process, the peer-learning approach and feedback by other colleagues was helpful, quite like inputs by Andreas Knoth (socius gGmbH) and Ania Rok (ICLEI). Loukas Bartatilas and Stelios Voulgaris, two alumni from team Athens, shared some retrospectives about their Actors project. Moreover, a field trip in Berlin touched upon various urban development issues, with stop overs in the housing estate Märkisches Viertel, at the press conference about development plans for the House of Statistics, at the co-housing project Spreefeld as well as at the Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U), an Actors alumni project. Thanks again to the teams from Bologna, Budapest, Cluj-Napoca, Geretsried, Istanbul, Krasnoyarsk, Messolonghi, Novi Sad, Porto and Skopje - your combination of projects, places and people promises another exciting year and a half! From Barabanki, beginning Tuesday, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi embarked on his five-day tour of Uttar Pradesh. He criticized the non-Congress governments in the state for the lack of development in Uttar Pradesh. He alleged that the welfare funds sent by the UPA Government at the centre are not reaching the poor man.
“The MGNREGA funds sent to the state are being pocketed by the BSP politicians and ministers. The state government is also not implementing the Janansi Suraksha Yojana (JSY) meant for helping the poor women. In other parts of the country a large number of women have benefitted from the scheme.

Ms. Drolskyid (b. 1984), a married local woman: 'It was unbelievably hard work and worrisome when there was no water in the home; especially when most young family members were working outside. We had to go to the neighbouring village (7km). If there was no water there, we had to go 11km to Shachu River to haul water. The Canada Fund supported water project has eliminated this hard work and brought us a convenient 24 hour running water at home.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, hosted a High-Level Meeting on the Sahel, on the margins of the 31st Summit of the African Union. The meeting, which was held in partnership with the G5 Sahel, was co-chaired by the United Nations. The meeting was used as an occasion to present the new United Nations Support Plan for the Sahel “Sahel: land of opportunities” and mobilize the support of the international community in favour of the Plan.
Participants welcomed the significant progress made in the Sahel in promoting good governance, economic growth and development, peaceful coexistence conflict resolution and the mitigation of the impact of major climate shocks. Participants emphasized that these progress were made possible by the commitments of the governments, the tenacious efforts of the people of the Sahel and, the cooperation between the States of the region, the UN, the African Union, the G5 Sahel, and other regional and international partners. Participants reaffirmed their commitments to a strong, sustainable and mutually supportive partnership to further the causes for a prosperous and peaceful Sahel.
It was recognized that despite the progress made, many challenges persist. Participants therefore welcomed the presentation of the new United Nations Support Plan for the Sahel, the overall goal of which is to intensify efforts to accelerate shared prosperity and lasting peace in the Sahel countries. Noting the significant opportunities in the Sahel and its potential for natural resources, energy, tourism, and culture, participants called for a massive increase in public and private investment in win-win partnerships. Investing in the enormous potential of the Sahel could be beneficial while ensuring prosperity, peace and security in a rapidly changing region.
Participants further agreed that the momentum generated by the Nouakchott Process, the creation and authorization of the deployment of the G5 Sahel Joint Force and the United Nations Integrated Strategy for the Sahel would result in tangible progress. In this regard, participants encouraged countries in the region to adopt and implement the Support Plan without delay, with the support of international and development partners as well as international financial institutions.

Akridge recently secured the purchase of 15-acres for an air rights development above the railyard that is north of Union Station. A 20-foot concrete platform will be built above the train tracks on both sides of the H Street bridge. Buildings will then be built on top of the platform. At three million square feet and with a price tag of around $1 billion, this will be an enormous undertaking. It will be interesting to see a huge platform deck being built over top of a busy railyard that connects to America's second busiest train station.
This air rights development, called Burnham Place at Union Station, will include a new intermodal transportation center with an additional rail passenger concourse for Union Station, pedestrian access, a connector road for H Street, office space, residential space, retail space, and a hotel.
