Final Outcome. Students used cardboard construction techniques to develope a self-portrait influenced by the works of Gabo. Acrylic paint was added to highlight shape, shadow and tone.

Mimi's father used to owe 1.5 million birr from the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. He borrowed such money to develope "peacock menafesha", which he owned during the Haileselasie period. When "Woyane" took power, he argued before the court that since his "menafesha" was nationalized by the government, the debt he owed to the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia to develop it should be assumed by the current owner of the "menafesha" - the Addis Ababa City Adiministration. In unprecented move never seen before or after, the Administration assumed his debt. No one - no business man - in Ethiopia is accorded such favourable treatment from the government, except the father of Mimi. In order to return such favour, "Sibahtu and co." has become the security and propoganda machine of "Woyane". I wonder what will happen to "Mimi and et al" when the balance of power is shifted in favour of the Ethiopian people!!

This is one of the main reasons I decided on this frame to develope a three-speed from it. This cottered crank is of a higher quality than I've seen on other bikes. I don't know if it's English, or Austrian, I just like it. I'm going with the cottered look because I want this project to have an English feel about it. I guess we'll see.

In 1951 Republic Aviation began a project to develope a supersonic tactical fighter-bomber to replace the Republic F-84 Thunderstreak.The result was the Republic F-105 Thunderchief later affectionately nicknamed the "Thud" the prototype Republic YF-105 THunderchief first flew in October 1955,but the first Republic F-105D Thunderchief did not fly until June 1959.A total of 833 Republic F-105 Thunderchiefs of all types were built,including 610 Republic F-105D Thunderchiefs.
The U.S.Air Force sent Republic F-105 Thunderchiefs to Southeast Asia shortly after the Tonkin Gulf incident in the summer of 1964.The U.S.Air Force operated the Republic F-105D Thunderchief extensively in the air campaign againsat North Vietnam called Rolling Thunder.Although designed as a nuclear strike aircraft,the Republic F-105 THunderchief could carry a total of over 12,000 pounds of conventional ordance--a heavier bomb load than a Woprld War II Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress.The Republic F-105 Thunderchief was gradully replaced by the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II,and the U.S. Air Force withdrew the last Republic F-105 Thunderchief from service in 1980.
The nickname Memphis Belle II refers to the Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress that carried the same art work durin World War II.
