The phrase "No Gunplay on Sunday" is not an official law, but rather a saying or an unwritten "truce code" that has existed within parts of Detroit's gang and criminal culture.

The Concept: It signifies that out of respect for family, church, or simply tradition, armed violence and shootings are frowned upon or suspended on Sundays.

Cultural Roots: This "code" has cultural roots in the historically central role of the Church (especially Baptist and Pentecostal churches) in the African-American community in Detroit, where Sunday is traditionally dedicated to worship, family, and peace.

The Reality: While a known saying and often quoted in popular culture, its real-life enforcement is variable. It is more of a moral self-restraint mechanism or a piece of urban folklore than a strict rule universally adhered to.

Popularity: The phrase has been popularized through Detroit's hip-hop culture and is occasionally cited in news articles and social media to highlight the complex blend of religious/family values and the reality of violence in the city.

Grand Circus Park is a historic two-part park and a key landmark in downtown Detroit, marking the northern edge of the central business district and the boundary of the Theatre District.

Historic Design: The park was originally established in 1850 as part of the Woodward Plan (the city's radial design). It consists of two separate sections, East and West, with the iconic Woodward Avenue running through the middle.

Significance: It gets its name "Grand Circus" from its semicircular (circus-like) design, which acts as a grand gateway to downtown.

Key Landmarks: The west side of the park is home to the Russell A. Alger Fountain, and both sections feature numerous monuments and statues, including the Abraham Lincoln Memorial.

Surroundings: It is surrounded by some of Detroit's most historic theatres, such as the Fox Theatre and the Detroit Opera House, and serves as a major transportation hub for the Detroit People Mover (an elevated transit system) and the QLine streetcar.

Frita Batidos is a popular and vibrant restaurant located in downtown Detroit, known for offering a concept of Cuban-inspired street food with big flavours and a lively atmosphere.

The Concept: The menu centres around the two main dishes that give the place its name:

Fritas: These are Cuban-style burgers, traditionally made with a pork or chorizo base (sometimes mixed with beef) and seasoned with Cuban spices. They are characterized by having shoestring fries piled on top, served with sweet chilli mayo on a Cuban bread roll.

Batidos: These are refreshing Latin American drinks, similar to smoothies or milkshakes, made with fresh fruit, crushed ice, and sweetened milk. Popular flavours include passionfruit, coconut, and lime.

Atmosphere: The restaurant is known for its colourful and energetic style, which aims to evoke the spirit of Cuban street culture, bringing a dose of tropical flavour to the city centre.

Popularity: Frita Batidos has become a local favourite and is part of the culinary revitalization of downtown Detroit, offering a unique and flavourful dining option.

Unique Concept: This restaurant distinguishes itself by centring its entire menu on turkey, offering it as the primary and exclusive meat option instead of beef or pork.

Popular Dishes: It is famous for its smoked and roasted turkey. Among the most popular choices are the turkey ribs, turkey chili, and a wide selection of turkey-based sandwiches, meals, and soul food dishes.

Location: The original and most well-known restaurant is located on the East Side of Detroit, a location that has contributed to its reputation for quality takeout and dine-in food.

Significance: The Turkey Grill has garnered a loyal customer base thanks to its commitment to home-style, flavourful cooking that offers a healthier alternative to traditional red meats, establishing itself as a beloved, non-traditional culinary landmark in Detroit.
