A super fast and hyper sensitive infrared laser beam detector. The circuit can easy detects a hi speed air gun bullet. The circuit can then trigg an flash device with only 0,1ms delay. It is so sensitive that it is able to trigger even on a thin a sewing thread that passes the sensor. I look forward to playing with it :-)
Brookhaven National Lab invited both amateur and professional photographers to a three-hour, behind-the-scenes Photowalk of the laboratory on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012. Participants were able to visit and photograph five major experimental facilities that are not usually accessible to the public including the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) Tunnel, RHIC’s STAR Detector, RHIC’s PHENIX Detector, National Synchrotron Light Source, and National Synchrotron Light Source II.
Here are some more picture of my find while metal detecting. The video will tell you the story, but the quality is poor, so maybe the pictures here can give you a better idea what I found in the woods.
Picking up all of these coins in an area that was about 4ft by 5ft most under leaves and sticks, but some were in the ground too, took over two hours. Filling in my pockets, using plastic bags, a towel anything I could find to carry these.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratories physicists and technologists close the water shield surrounding the antineutrino sensitive liquid scintillator in the "Tendon Gallery" of a commercial nuclear reactor. International inspectors may have a new tool in the form of an antineutrino detector, that could help them peer inside a working nuclear reactor. A Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory-Sandia National Laboratories’ team recently demonstrated that the operational status and thermal power of reactors can be quickly and precisely monitored over hour-to month-time scales, using a cubic-meter-scale antineutrino detector. A view into the heart of the Reactor Monitoring Antineutrino Detector: stainless steel containers hold roughly 2/3 of a ton of liquid scintillator that is sensitive to the relatively rare antineutrino interactions. The liquid scintillator is surrounded by a water shield to attenuate natural radioactive backgrounds. [More information]

Eerste bestukte pcb voor de Fischertechnik hardware. Dit is zowat het fijnste dat ik nog kan uitvoeren rekening houdend met mijn ogen. Dit is een enkelzijdige PCB maar dubbelzijdig bestukt. Er zitten langs beiden zijden IC's bestukt. Dit is gedaan om de enkelzijdige pcb uitvoering mogelijk te maken. De SMD componenten zijn 0508 versie's.
Dit is de SPI interface voor 16 detectoren, voorzien van feedback output leds. Verschillende type detectoren kunnen door elkaar gebruikt worden. Binnenkort komen ook hiervan de foto's. Er kunnen 4 encoders of 8 gewone inputs uitgelezen worden. Het is mogelijk meerdere bakjes aaneen te schakelen indien nog meer detectoren nodig zijn.
Het geheel zit in een lowcost bakje met DB-9 connector. Een 10 polige kabel wordt gebruikt voor de signalen en de voeding.

Hierbij een detail van de data flow van de sensor. Dit nieuwe algorithme onderdrukt veel beter de ongewenste invloed van de zon op de sensor.
Ik maak gebruik van de afgeleide van het sensor signaal terwijl het binnen komt. Bovenaan de sensor data op t0, t1, t2 enz. Deze data wordt telkens bij een nieuwe input doorgeschoven. Omdat ik voor de volgende bewerkingen ook moet aftrekken zijn de waardes als signed voorzien en meteen op de breedte van de eindberekening. Vandaar dat ik de input data tot 10 bit signed maak.
De 2 volgende registers bepalen de afgeleiden maar berekend op een afstand van 2T van elkaar. Door de vorm van het signaal door de laser blijkt na simulatie dit een betere methode dan met 1T verschil. Ik maak zowel de afgeleide voor de positieve als de negatieve flank omdat ik die later ga samentellen met een verschuiving in 2T of 3T samples.
De sum registers zijn die optelling. Het resultaat is dat je eigenlijk zowel de opgaande flank als de verschoven neergaande flank optelt. ik heb hiervoor 2 verschillende sum registers gemaakt eentje voor 2T en eentje voor 3T verschuiving. Bij de simulatie heb ik ondervonden dat voor zwakke signalen van de laser de 2T verschuiving het best werkt. Met 3T verschuiving gaat het beter voor sterkere signalen. Dit komt omdat de basis vorm van het meetsignaal iets breder is bij sterke signalen.
Nu praktisch kan ik selecteren uit 4 detectie methodes.
1. Hier wordt enkel level gebruikt zoals vroeger. Kan niet beter als het omgevingslicht konstant is, dus zonder zon of bij overtrokken weer.
2. sum met 2T verschuiving. Werkt heel goed voor kleine signalen.
3. sum met 3T verschuiving, iets beter voor sterke signalen.
4. sum 2T en sum 3T samen. Dit is iets strenger van voorwaarde bij sterke zon. De meet gevoeligheid zal wel iets lager zijn.
Het geheel is nu afgewerkt en reeds getest.
Binnenhuis met een flits als stoorbron kan ik het verschil enorm goed zien. Level detectie stoort heel snel onder de invloed van het minste flitslicht terwijl de andere standen ruimschoots onderdrukken.
Buitenhuis in de field in volle zon zijn de ongewenste triggers bijna volledig te vermijden. Is er echt veel zon met storingen dan moet ik het level slechts een klein beetje verhogen. Maar echte zon reflectie's op random achtergrond kunnen nog blijvend storen. Daar zijn de stoor signalen dan echt te sterk. Maar praktisch is het nu al heel goed werkbaar. Gelukkig heb ik heel veel parameters om mee te spelen.
Dit algorithme kost mij geen extra reken tijd omdat op het einde van iedere scan lijn de detectie reeds gekent is. De detectie tijd blijft hierdoor op 50 usec.

Your dream is peaceful, but short. You have awoken. In the inky blackness, the cause of your broken slumber is lost, so you try to re-enter that blissful peace. Then you hear it. The short, sharp, ear piercing cry for help of a dying smoke detector. Stumbling through the darkness to the light switch, that peaceful place slowly becomes a memory. Blinking at the sudden brilliant light, your head cranes upward to find the source of your current uncomfortably vertical condition. You see your quarry. It is above you, but it has three brothers. One in the hallway, one in the office, and another downstairs in the kitchen.
Which one?
It cries again.
The shrill scream rings in your ears, but the acoustics are imperfect.
Which one?
Blearily, you stumble to a small box tucked away in a bottomless closet. A small square power cell emerges in your grasp. It too, awoken from it's slumber. But the 9 volt is ready for service, and you both make your way back to the source of your shared torment... And wait.
You wait for the sound.
You wait for the cry of pain.
You wait to hear again the location of your midnight interruption.

It does not make another sound. The 9 volt in your hand feels heavy with dissapoinent. It is but one, they are but four. You are no match. Outnumbered with low resources.
Drained, faltering, loosing verticality and the will to remain vigilant. You dejectedly return to your bed. It has cooled in your absence. Your peaceful place, nothing more than a dream. A calm you cannot return to tonight. Your thoughts are filled with the dread and apprehension of another jarring yelp. You drift away, the 9 volt stands guard on the nightstand.
