The remains of what was once a hunting and whaling cabin on Danmark Ø, strategically overlooking the mouth of Fonfjord and the distant Volquaart von Kyst moutains on the Gaseland penninsula where it meets Scoresby Sund, East Greenland. Until recently people from the Thule culture lived on the island and remains of their rock and turf winter houses can be seen near the old cabin.

Encountered this beautiful view as we were descending from Dick's peak to our campground

This was the scene of Dungeness A & B nuclear power stations one autumn evening on the Dungeness headland in Kent, England. Both of these power stations are now decommissioned.

With this shot I wanted to show the rugged and barren Dungeness landscape with its imposing yet also fitting power station, reaching out to spread its energy to the less desolate world beyond.

The Western United States has to be one of the most desolate places that I have ever been to. It is hard to imagine how much of anything could survive here or what would want to attempt to survive here, yet there is actually a whole ecosystem that thrives here. There are Bison, Deer, Prairie Dogs, Birds, Snakes, and many desert flowers and the bees that pollinate them. Even in the most desolate of places, God put life. This should be an encouragement to us that even the most desolate of hearts can be filled with life and the darkest of souls can be filled with His Light that will drive out that darkness! Nothing is impossible for Him!

I've been here in the summer... now in winter, it always gives the is impression of a desolated landscape. The Cairngorms, in Scotland.

Mill D North Fork to Desolation Lake; Big Cottonwood Canyon, Utah; October 2017

I've never been able to figure out the origin of all the desolation names on the ridge between Big Cottonwood and Mill Creek Canyons, but there are a few: Desolation Lake, Desolation Peak, the Desolation Trail. These are from the end of the relatively easy seven mile round trip to Desolation Lake. I liked the how the contrast between the water of the lake, the early season snow, and the trees in these shots turned out.

View from Valtavaara in Kuusamo, Finland.

Sometimes in far off lands, as far away as you can see, desolate places shrouded in mystery reveal themselves. And somehow, even in desolation I find allure, and beauty.

revisitation #1

I took this on my photo walk last week. I'm not sure I like where the sliding took me, but it's different, anyway. HSS!

After years of nature restoration the peataera Vragenderveen has become a tough place for trees leaving a desolated feeling

Door succesvol herstel avn het hoogveen beginnen de bomen het steeds moeilijker te krijgen. Afgelopen zomer zijn veel berken opgeruimd met een kale desolate aanblik. Ziet apart, maar is een goed teken.
