BMW Group Design set the standard for designing new cars that move today’s consumers and their demand for enhanced utility and more versatility. An innovative concept introduced by BMW Group Design prepares the ground for this new approach: the GINA (Geometry and Functions In “N” Adaptations) principle grants more freedom for car design. It allows the creation of products with a design and functional range that express individuality and meet the wide variety of requirements of those who are using them. GINA produces dramatically different solutions that affect the design and functionality of future cars.

An essential principle of the GINA philosophy is to deliberately integrate the potential of new materials and pioneering, innovative constructions into the creative design process, and the idea of challenging existing manufacturing methods and material concepts. Designworks collaborated with BMW Group Design to create an optical expression of individuality, functionality, and innovation that is GINA.

Putting its visions of tomorrow’s car into practice, Designworks developed a two-seater roadster concept with the unique dynamic proportions that are typical of the BMW brand.

The GINA Light Visionary Model takes the sculptural design that has already been established by a number of production cars to a new, unparalleled conclusion. Designworks incorporated an almost seamless outer skin for the visionary model, which was created out of a flexible textile cover that stretches across a moveable substructure. With this unique attribute, individual functions are only revealed if and when they are needed uniquely resembling the ability of a human to adapt to its environment. In the interior, variability, form and function are united in an inseparable connection. Again, the car’s variability is adapted to suit the driver’s needs. This creates a close interaction between driver and car in various different situations.

With this model, BMW Group Design initiates a fundamental discourse about the characteristics that will affect the development of cars in the future. It is therefore fundamentally different from concept cars, which reflect what is expected of them by implementing as many elements as possible in a future production model. In contrast, the GINA Light Visionary Model is a vision of future cars and serves as an object of research.

The Holiday House Geographic, is among the most desirable vintage travel trailers in the world. One of only two currently known to be in existence, the body of this trailer was designed by world renowned industrial engineer, Chuck Pelly, designer of the Scarab race car and founder of Designworks USA, which is BMW's California Studio.

David Holmes, President of "Harry & David" fruit company, began producing the Holiday House travel trailers in November of 1959, in Medford, Oregon. These were aluminum and wood constructed trailers as many of their counterparts of this era, however, the Holiday House trailers stood out as distinctive due to their highly progressive and futuristic design.

In 1958 David Holmes enlisted Chuck Pelly to design the Geographic model, also known as Model X, as a super limited production model, which he dubbed the "Trailer For The Rich". The styling was unlike any trailer of it's time. There are thought to have only been parts of 7 of these strikingly futuristic fiberglass trailers ever made with a price tag of almost $8,500. The Holiday House factory burned down in 1962, and the molds that survived were discarded years later.

This 1961 Holiday House Geographic has been completely restored from the frame up with no expense spared, by Flyte Camp, in Bend, OR.

This trailer would make a wonderful addition to any collection, and is fully equipped as a modern luxury travel trailer.

The Holiday House Geographic Serial Number 007:

The exterior was tastefully re-finished with Axalta finishing systems and coatings, in a two-toned champagne and moss green with bronze colored pin-stripping. The entire running system was upgraded with new axels, brakes, wheels, and 10-ply Diamond Back white wall trailer tires. The exterior is completed with a vintage style fabric awning.

The interior features Black Walnut wall skin, cabinetry and black walnut hard wood flooring with custom aluminum detailing. The bathroom/dressing room features Marmoleum flooring, Walnut & Marmoleum countertops and a Stainless Steel shower with a Teak hardwood shower floor insert. Through out the coach original vintage light sconces are combined with LED lighting. Warm LED strip lighting accents the cabinetry, with lighting in cabinet, under cabinet and along the floor in the living area. The kitchen is outfitted with a stainless two burner cook top, a two drawer stainless 3-way fridge, and a stainless sink with a built-in drain board. Stainless kitchen countertops, and luxury upholstery fabric, in moss, accented with high end custom pleated and lined drapery complete the interior finishes. Behind the scenes an LP on-demand hot water heater provides a steady flow of limitless hot water. Off grid the water holding system is made up of a 35 gallon fresh water tank, a 35 gallon black water tank and 40 gallon grey water holding. The 2000 watt Go Power! inverter system is powered by 4 Trojan 6-volt AGM batteries, and is solar capable. There are both 110 outlets, and 12 volt ports throughout the trailer. The A/V system includes a 32” TV, surround sound and a DVD/Bluetooth stereo system. The Air-conditioning system has a heat pump and is tastefully concealed under the front couch. The front L shaped sofa, is 30” deep with pillows removed and can comfortably sleep two. The gaucho couch also extends to sleep two. There is ample storage, with full extension drawers. Aluminum trim and detailing has been added to the bottom of the cabinetry. No detail has been overlooked including the stainless steel front door threshold which has been laser etched with "Geographic".

The icing on the cake was having Chuck Pelly attended the Palm Springs Modernism event in February of this year to see the completed Geographic, and he added his personal signature to the trailer both inside and out!

This may be the only opportunity to own this priceless piece of history. Please contact Flyte Camp with any questions, and for additional detail photos if desired. We accept payment by Cashiers Check if the check is drawn off of an Institution with a Branch in Bend, Oregon. Otherwise, we accept wire transfer. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding payment, or to schedule pickup. Buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements. Trailer should be picked up within 30 days of auction end. Contact us if you are an international buyer.

Blue hour primetime at the Conrad Bali. I have been an urban dweller or a 'city person' all my life, and hated the notion of resorts because I think beach and gardens would bore me to death. Fresh from landing back home from the Island of the gods aka Bali, I would have to admit that it was thrilling, healing and liberating; nothing as I've expected before.

The Hong Kong Flagship Hotels Battle

PART 2: INTERCONTINENTAL HONG KONG

The InterContinental Hong Kong is the Asia Pacific flagship property of the InterContinental Hotel Group. Opened in October 1980, it was originally designed as The Regent of Hong Kong, which was also the flagship property of the legendary Asian brand that was founded by visionary hotelier extraordinaire Robert (Bob) Burns, Adrian Zecha (of Amanresorts glory); and Georg Rafael (of former Rafael Hotels, which was later sold to the Mandarin Oriental Group).

During its Regent heyday, I was such a big fan of the hotel (and the group) to the point of worship as during that time, The Regent brand was dominating the luxury hotel scene and everything about the hotel was spectacular, groundbreaking and of the highest quality. After The Peninsula and Mandarin Oriental, this was probably the most famous and luxurious hotel of the time, largely due to its unrivaled waterfront location that affords the most spectacular harbour view from most of its magnificent public spaces, and 2/3 of its guestrooms. The grand lobby was also revolutionary during its opening because the prominent American firm Skidmore Owings Merrill (who also designed the 828m Burj Khalifa in Dubai) has designed a multi-tiered public areas where the lobby and restaurants are cleverly staged on different levels like an auditorium, yet all shared the similar dramatic harbour views.

Unfortunately, the hotel was later sold to the Six Continents Group and then rebranded as The InterContinental Hong Kong in 2001. I felt that after the rebranding, things have not been the same. Even with the subsequent room renovations in 2005 by Chhada Siembieda, it has not been as successful as the the original modern and timeless design. At this point, I then realized how powerful branding could do to a luxury hotel.

That said, InterContinental continues to evolve, and in 2006, it unveils its piece-de-resistance, the 650m2 Presidential Suite, which is undoubtedly the most spectacular in Asia with its own infinity-edged swimming pool on its expansive 250m2 terrace. The Lobby Lounge has just recently been refurbished; and in keeping with the stiff competitions from other rival hotels, InterContinental will soon embark on full scale renovations on all its guestrooms and very dated bathrooms next year. This is certainly good news, as the public spaces and restaurants are looking glamorous and up to date, a glaring comparison to its guestrooms and bathrooms in particular.

InterContinental Hong Kong is very strong in its food and beverage side, similar to that of Mandarin Oriental, Four Seasons and Peninsula. Three out of four of its signature restaurants are Michelin rated, i.e. 2 Michelin for Spoon by Alain Ducasse; 1 Michelin each for Yan Toh Heen and The Steak House. Although Nobu has yet to receive any Michelin Star, it is still a very popular venue; and so is the Lobby Lounge, which seems to be in full capacity anytime of the day with its endless long queues.

LOCATION

The 26-storey landmark circa 1978 sits on top of a small triangular prime land at the city's main thoroughfare fronting yet another city's landmark, the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout. Despite its central location and adjacency to two of the nation's swankiest shopping malls (Plaza Indonesia and Grand Indonesia Mall), MO's island-like location and Jakarta's harsh pedestrian condition makes the hotel isolated from the crowd as there is no direct passages connecting to these commercial and entertainment centers. With constant traffic jam; 3-in-1 policy designated around the area; and popular public demonstration venue by the roundabout; some guests may find the location to be inconvenient.

HISTORY:

It is interesting to learn that MO Jakarta is 96.9% owned by its legendary parent company in Hong Kong that also wholly owned the flagship Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. This means that the hotel's performance is directly related to the legendary group's namesake; and therefore underpar performance here means a big slap to the brand.

During its heyday after its inauguration in 1978, MO was the undisputed leader and the nation's most luxurious hotels. At that time where hotel room's sizes are shoebox, MO offered the most spacious rooms in the city at 37 m2 for years, until the 90s where Jakarta saw the construction booming and the birth of newer hotels, i.e. the Grand Hyatt in 1991, which took Indonesia's hospitality scene by storm. Grand Hyatt single-handedly revolutionized the city's hospitality sector to an unprecedented new height. By that time, old-fashioned MO seemed to have lost its charm; identity and competitive edge. Several cosmetic refurbishment programs transformed the rooms and public areas to a minor effect without momentum.

Fortunately, all that came to an end in 2007 when MO announced its full closure for extensive top-to-toe refurbishment, lasting 2 years. MO finally emerged from the much-needed rejuvenation in late 2009 with a Grand Opening in October. It was certainly one of the most eagerly-awaited moments amongs many Jakartans who are fans of the hotel.

ROOM:

The most striking feature from the full-scale renovation program is the redesign of the rooms and suites. MO reinvents itself as a smaller, boutique size hotel and henceforth decided to cut down the total room inventory from 500+ rooms to just 272 rooms now. During the renovation, the rooms are expanded by coverting three rooms into two room configuration, which resulted in ultra-wide rooms. LTW Designworks (Lim Teo Wilkes) was commissioned again for the renovation after transforming other MO hotels in the region, including flagship MOHK and MO in Singapore.

There are 5 room types on offer: Superior; Deluxe; Deluxe Monument, each at 47 m2; and then there are Mandarin Deluxe and Mandarin Deluxe Monument, each measures at 64m2. On top of that, MO only has 2 type of suites on offer: The Oriental and a Mandarin Suite.

Entry level rooms come with two distinct designs and three views to choose from. All Superior Rooms are located on the corner and actually appears larger, thanks to its open plan layout. Deluxe Rooms have great layout and more spacious bathrooms a separate Walk-in wardrobe; and separate lavatory. Standard features in all rooms include latest technology offerings, such as 42-inch LCD TV, inncom (energy) management system and Ipod connectivity. Unfortunately, MO's signature in-room interactive entertainment system offered at sister properties such as in Hong Kong and Tokyo was not available here.

Mandarin Deluxe is technically a suite room, with separate wall dividing the living and bedroom. The bathroom here is particularly spacious, with stand alone deep soaking tub as the focal point. Mandarin Deluxe is quite an ideal venue to entertain small gatherings. It also comes with an open plan study area and foyer.

ROOM TO BOOK:

Mid-tier Deluxe Monument Room for its elegance; great views of the roundabout; couple's bathtub with glass partition to the bedroom; and great layout.

DINING:

Everyone was relieved to learn that the popular Mandarin Cake Shop and Xin Hwa (Chinese Restaurant) are back with a more glamorous surrounding. MO has just also revealed a new chef for Xin Hwa, Chef Foong in July.

The popular Italian restaurant, Zigolini, has been re-conceptualized into a new dining experience as Lyon, a French restaurant. The old coffee shop, KafeKafe, has been reinvented into a new all day dining restaurant aptly called Cinnamon, which also adjoins the Cake Shop. The previoius Oriental Bar has been glamorously transformed into MO Bar. A new poolside cafe, Azure is re-introduced in a garden setting.

LEISURE:

Leisure facilities here is quite limited and consists of a fish pond-like pool on the rooftop with great city views; a small but up-to-date Fitness Center and a Spa with 4 treatment rooms. In the past life, the pool was already small; and in its new reincarnation, the pool becomes more of an oversized "jacuzzi".

MEETING & CONVENTION:

A total of 1,060m2 of newly redesigned event spaces are on offered here, including a Ballroom for up to 700 persons; 3 Banquet rooms and an-85m2 Esquire Room with its own separate pre-function; breakout room and outdoor patio garden, capable to accommodate up to 90. Additional event space is also offered on the rooftop garden by the pool.

X-FACTOR:

Club Floor; MandarinDeluxe and Deluxe Rooms with Welcome Monument Views; In-room check-in procedure; Acqua di Parma amenities for Suites;

SERVICE:

Generally, service here is somehow inconsistent. My first stay here during its Grand Opening week was a disaster to a point where I was directed to a one-way carpark building that was still a construction zone. There was no way down, except to reverse the car 3 storeys down. It was chaotic, ill-prepared, poorly coordinated and the hotel was simply not ready to open. All these have been well-communicated with the GM.

Second visit was better without the above chaos, but realized that after all the previous dramas, my profile was not recorded in the history; and upon check-in, the reception staffs still asked if it was my first stay at the hotel; and nothing was said or done to bridge what was happening from the first stay.

The plus side? The only other hotel in Jakarta aside from The Dharmawangsa that offers in-room check-in. Service at both Cinnamon and Xin Hwa were examplary, some of the best in town.

PART 2: INTERCONTINENTAL HONG KONG

The Patio Suite is a unique suite encompassing a total area of 130m2. Not many people aware of the existence of this suite because it is not readily available to the public (or online); and only on request basis as it is a one-of-a-kind and there is only one of this suite within the hotel.

The living room runs the length of the room and has an adjoining outdoor terrace with the most spectacular harbour view. The decor might need a makeover, but overall the suite has its own charm and is actually quite elegant and very comfortable.

Icon Aircraft held a debut party last night for the A5 amphibious sport plane in LA, our first chance to see the sea plane.

The FAA recently introduced a new sport pilot license, requiring only 20 hours of training for the recreational aviator. Imagine the motor boating crowd hopping around from lake to lake. (It does have a parachute if you freak out and decide that a regular landing is not possible.)

In his opening remarks, CEO Kirk Hawkins quoted Orville Wright: "The exhilaration of flying is too keen, the pleasure too great, for it to be neglected as a sport."

Icon hired Nissan and BMW as design consultants, and this is the auto-inspired cockpit.

(Funny thing… with a DSLR in hand, it’s easy to blend in with the press for early access ;-)

One of the many room layouts at The Conrad Bali. Each rooms have a minimum of 45m2 of space, adorned with dark wood furniture, cool marbles, and handcrafted ornaments. The result is a comfortable and contemporary haven. Too bad the rooms that I was assigned (out of the 3) was not nice as it is stuck dead-end, with view over other room's terrace directly and has a claustrophobic feel as you always tend to close the curtains.

Conrad Bali may sound pretty perfect from my description, but few drawbacks: service was a real let down; and the food was the most horrible hotel food I've ever tasted. It's a pity, really.

An overview of Mandarin Oriental Macau's Deluxe Room with spectacular view of Nam Van Lake and Macau Bay. Although the hotel is brand spanking new, it is a pity that the room design does not set a new benchmark in terms of design. While it is supremely comfortable, it looks quite basic if compared to other fine sister properties within the MO family.

The interior firm who is responsible for the overall room design is no other but LTW Designworks who renovated the flagship Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong. Sadly, their work at MO Macau is slightly disappointing and does not meet my expectation. My perennial Macau's favourite hotel remains the Altira Macau (formerly Crown Towers) by Peter Remedios.

It was a special moment on the rooftop of the Petersen Museum in Los Angeles as BMW M Motorsport introduced the world to their latest racing outlier, the BMW M Hybrid V8. It's daring, futuristic, powerful, high-tech, revolutionary, and fast! Presented in traditional BMW M hues representing the avant-garde livery, the prototype will compete in the GTP class of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2023. This wonderful mid century modern Husqvarna "Signatur" thermos was designed by Swedish icon Carl-Arne Breger in 1962.

From decopedia:" Carl-Arne Breger is a Swedish designer mostly known for his designworks in plastics. After graduating from Konstfack in Stockholm in 1948 he was employed by Gustavsberg where - under the supervision of Stig Lindberg - he designed a range of functional day-to-day products in plastics. In 1959 he started his own design studio, Breger Design, which over the years accumulated over 5000 product designs put into production, many of which have become classics and are still highly visible in Swedish everyday life."

What a crazy feeling being back at the Park. I hadn't been there in a year and half.

No tarp. Small puddles on the infield. Some ads starting to fall apart on the outfield walls. Some tiny trees starting grow in between the outfield wall "stepped-back" sections. Some tattered awnings. All the tattered bunting at the entrance. But surprisingly the Park doesn't look all that bad.

My history is so damn deep with that place.

The girls were so young.

All the friends and family I've been there with.

The nights I was there alone after work sitting in a different seat every inning.

The rainy "Johnny Cosco Night" with no game.

My Dad running ahead of some kids to grab a foul ball behind the left field bleachers.

Harry's Lost and Founds flyer. Me, with my sunglasses on, wondering why it's so dark out? ("Must be those crummy lights.") The Coach's 60.5 birthday.

The kids doing the water contest on the filed.

The National Anthem performed on saxophone by William Paterson University's Dr. David Dempsey.

Cecil Fielder being interviewed for local TV.

Hal Lanier running into the ProShop before a game to get a hat.

The real Scooter!

All the signage Gravity DesignWorks designed, printed, mounted, laminated and installed.

The "animal quotes" ad campaign. Sneaking into the corporate boxes clicking back and forth between Yanks and Mets on the TV as a real ball game is going on outside.

Grand Pa's family there with me and Alyssa.

Taking Alyssa and her boyfriend to a Sunday afternoon game and hitting the Chatterbox afterwards.

My Mom taking me and the girls there for Fathers Day.

All the Boyz Nights Out.

My cousin Cindy (who doesn't really drink) operating the beer cart inside the stadium one night. (I told her to put up a tip cup. She did. She made 30 bucks!)

All of us from Gravity going to an afternoon game once a season.

The beer tent. My cousins daughter Meri (same age as Samantha) running the beer tent.

Scooter standing at the bar in the beer tent one night with me watching the All-Star game on TV.

The two sports dj's from WNTI at the bar autographing a ball for me after Mel told them, "That's Bilko!" Some asshole sitting behind me saying under his breath, but loud enough so I can hear, "Man this place really sucks." IT WAS ROB sneaking up on me!

A foul ball being chased by kids in a semi-empty stadium as it rolled into the foot of some crazy bald guy wearing round sunglass. The guy picks up the ball and holds it straight out… right at me? IT WAS ROB sneaking in on me (Again!)

The Cardinals leaving. The Skyhawks taking right over.

The New Jersey Diamonds professional woman's baseball team playing there one summer.

The Newark Bears playing there, before their stadium was completed. Ex-Yankee Hensley Bam Bam Meulens was on the Bears that season.

The "trumpet nut" playing the Flintstone's theme song every time Bam Bam came up to bat.

Playing catch with the my girls on the field after the game and pretending to crash into the right field wall. The way that grass felt under your feet.

The scoreboard with all the broken lights. "Hey look, the score's H to F."

The foul ball breaking window sound effect, "Sussex County Window and Glass… 9 7 3…"

The sunsets.

The corn stalks rushing by the car window in August as the Park's light stands and roof moved slowly in the distance.

The FIREWOOOOOORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The orginal SKAM character.....

Updated Version 6.0

Halftoned and Vectorized

Based on the original photo......

The True Identity of the SKAM character is a mystery?

So whats this SKAM character all about you say? I dont get it? Your character doesnt make sense?

no matter what anyone tells you ignorance is not bliss

SKAM represents ideas.....The arrow signifies the idea.....they are corrupt in nature....like lies, religion, politics etc,

BUT the reality of the idea(SKAM) would blow your mind if you knew the truth......

The blank arrow represents the spreading of the SKAM

Now the character himself is one of those good old boys......The idealistic American born redneck.......(They exist in every state in the united states)

Busted out teeth are the typical american living with out health insurance....Gluzzing Mountain Dew, eating cheeseburgers, shooting guns, going to church, watching fox news, having 12 kids from 12 different pieces of white trash, living off of unemployment because the gas station he worked at fired him(you know the same gas that runs our consuming culture of greed), No high school diploma, coolers light, nascar......Gonna vote for Mitt Romney because he will set us free and take away womens sexual freedoms!!!!!

Yup! Welcome to America......

Menu from Rin Japanese Restaurant, available through the room service: Seared foie gras, lobster brandade, daikon fondant, white miso, umeboshi

Perfectly cooked succulent foie gras, served warm and beautifully presented in glass plate. Fantastic meal. This foie gras dish is better than the one ordered at the St. Regis Bali.

One may initially guess that this meal is prepared by a Japanese chef; but the driving force behind Conrad's signature Japanese Restaurant is actually a gaijin (foreigner): he is Richard Millar, who is passionate about Japanese food where he has worked and lived in Japan; and married a to a Japanese wife too. What inspired him is Kaiseki, a Japanese equivalent to Western's Haute Cuisine, and is regarded as Japan's most exquisite culinary tradition.
