A brief description of this photo:

A while ago, someone who shall remain nameless, had put out a photo with a catchy description, inviting participation. That said, I took part in said event only to suffer multiple injuries, the only one of which that I made known was the damage done to my hand by their apparatus. With that said, I was kindly rebuked in my mentioning of my injured hand. Then...in another encounter with said individual, I was told to send them my medical bill...well, since they offered. I took them up on it and on my way to mailing my bill to them, since it was tax season and they could afford my medical BILLS...ahem. I went to my mailbox to submit my envelope and tripped over another ill kept SL sidewalk, thus causing me to lose my balance and my crutch and in doing so, my envelope was taken away by a strong wind... a suspicious wind, mind you but nonetheless..my envelope was lost as well as my medical BILLS, that they were going to pay. The only proof of this, is one of the many CCTV that SL has in our cities.

If the person who is responsible for my broken hand sees this, my bill is forthcoming either by SL Postal Carrier or a strong Windlight wind!!!!

Now I'm off to pop some Oxy, as all this typing aggravated my hands, both good and broken!!!!

PS If anything is misspelled or is seen as an incomplete thought... I was in extreme pain typing this and reliving the whole experience.

Online photo exhibition is the last 3 days! For details, check the description. I was planning to actually exhibit it at a gallery in Tokyo in April, but it was postponed at the request of the government.

COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 is attacking all over the world. Japan is no exception, and everyday is becoming more difficult. As a photographer, I also thought about life and postponed the exhibition according to the government's request. The Japanese government does not support artists. So I decided to hold an online photo exhibition. This is free to watch.

The photo exhibition should be in the dark in the room at night, preferably with the playlist. Look at the brightness of mobile terminals at 1/3.

Thank you for your support. Thanks to everyone, we had more access than in Japan. Thank you. Last but not least, I would be happy if you could share the URL of the photo exhibition on your SNS. Thank you!

DESCRIPTION:

When we take a picture during a sunset , usually we are attracted by the bright colors we see in the west and rarely point the camera in the opposite direction, towards the east. Yet, if the condition are favorable (clear and transparent sky ) the show we would see would be just as beautiful. This photo, taken by Acireale, a city of Sicily located on a hill overlooking the Ionian Sea , wants to be a testimony. The color element that dominates and characterizes it is the pink band extended for about 20 degrees above the horizon, known as “ the belt of Venus”.

The belt of Venus is an atmospheric phenomenon due to backscattering of the red sunlight at sunset by the particles of the atmosphere that are on the opposite side of the sun.

Near the horizon, due to the shadow projected by the Earth, the belt progressively decreases in brightness and color until it disappears completely.

The phenomenon lasts a few minutes and is visible even at down, just before sunrise.

Description in English, German and Dutch

English:

During my walk from Murnau to Ohlstadt in Bavaria I walked along the Loisach river. The Loisach is a tributary of the Isar and the Isar is a tributary of the world famous Danube. Some parts of the river have a beautiful blue-green color. I decided to get off the trail to get a closer look at the river. When I got close to the current I was enchanted by the beauty of the water and the green surroundings. I was all alone, because the spot I had chosen is not known by tourists, but it is very beautiful. On the waterfront I decided to take some pictures first and then turn my phone off completely. No distraction for a while. With my pants pulled up I walked barefoot into the clear water and that was very cooling on this sun-drenched warm summer day. Staring at the impressive mountains of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, I then stood in the shallow part of the river and decided to close my eyes and think about nothing for a while. It was another special experience in beautiful Bavaria where I experienced a moment of satisfaction and ultimate peace in one of the most beautiful tributaries of the world. All my beautiful experiences of recent times have been made possible by the 9 euro ticket. Unfortunately, everything comes to an end and August 31 was the last day that the ticket could be used. I used it for three months. Only 27 euros for travelling in thee months. Sweet 9 euro ticket, it was an honor to carry you with me in the summer period. I miss you already, but the memories will last forever in the form of my photos. There will therefore be a lot of pictures here on Flickr of my adventures in Germany.

Even geen afleiding.

Despite being a substantial village before the Norman Conquest, the description of Alwalton in the Doomsday Book makes no mention of a church. However, they were certain that there was a church a century later because the earliest parts of the present building date back from 1170 and were clearly the extension of an existing building.

This 1170 work (the first two bays of the north aisle with their solid piers, round arches and skilfully carved leaf volute capitals) is not only the most ancient part of the church, it is also the most beautiful.

During the early 13th century the church was considerably extended. The tower was built and the nave lengthened by the insertion of an extra bay at the west end and widened by adding a south aisle. It seems likely that the wonderful carving around the west door was also carried out at this time but it could have been earlier, having been moved from another part of the church.

With the completion of the 13th century work the church became much as we see it today, except for the transepts and chancel. But things might have been very different if plans to rebuild the church around 1300 had been successful. At that time work began on the construction of a central tower along with a high vaulted chancel and vaulted transept. Inexplicably, after about 30 years, the work ceased. The partly completed tower was taken down and only the chancel and transepts remain from this grandiose plan.

During the next 500 years there was only one major alteration and this took place during the 15th century. The nave walls were raised to form a clearstory and the church was re-roofed. Adding the clearstory involved building new arches at the crossing and it was at this time that the 13th century vaulting in the chancel and transepts was destroyed. Traces of the vaulting can still be seen on several walls but we can only imagine how splendid the building would now be if this magnificent ceiling had survived.

By the middle of the 19th century the church had fallen in to a sorry state and extensive repairs were begun in 1840

Description of the District

The Durand-Markland Heritage Conservation District runs along Markland Street and includes Park Street and MacNab Street between Markland Street and Herkimer. Chilton Place is also included.

The Durand-Markland Heritage Conservation District is found in the City of Hamilton and consists of 51 residential properties.

Cultural Heritage Value of the District

The Heritage Conservation District Plan describes the heritage character as:

“Although a few residents were built in the 1850s and 1860s, the Durand-Markland study area is characterized by a predominance of late nineteenth century to early twentieth century building construction. There is a range and diversity of structures from small, vernacular worker’s cottages to large classically detailed houses of the upper middle class.

The most prominent architectural styles are nineteenth century Italianate (1850-1900), and Queen Anne (1880-1910), and twentieth century Tudor Revival (1900-1930s) Examples of such architectural styles as Second Empire (1860-1880), Colonial Revival (1900-present), Edwardian Classicism (1900-1930), and four-square (1900-1930) are also represented in the district ”.

It goes on to state:

“The distinctive architectural features of the area are its scale, mass, decorative detailing and building sitting. Remarkably few individual buildings and properties have been extensively altered or subdivided over time due to changing tastes, economics and fashion The overall nineteenth century residential character coupled with a distinctive treeline and canopied streetscapes have generally been retained and occasionally enhanced”.

Designation of the District

The designation of Durand-Markland was initiated by local residents. Unterman McPhail Cumming Associates Heritage Conservation and Planning Consultants and Wendy Shearer Landscape Architect Limited completed the plan in 1994 for the City of Hamilton.

The Durand-Markland Heritage Conservation District is protected by By-law 94-184, which was passed in 1994 by the City of Hamilton.

DESCRIPTION: We have very cloudy weather in CZ during December. I had only approx 20 minutes to catch a photo of Great Conjunction between the clouds in December 22, around 17 PM. The photo is not so impressive, but I am happy to had small change to captured it. Jupiter is in the center together with his four moons, Saturn is close right. His egg shape is caused by his ring. There is no more details because low elevation (approx 13 degree) above horizon and strong wind...

This conjunction was visible in year 7 BC and very probably was perceived like sing of coming the Messiah.... Conjunction will be visible around this year Christmas above south / west horizon after sunset. DO NOT MISS IT. To watch Star of Bethlehem around Christmas is possible only one in hundreds of years.

I WISH YOU CLEAR SKIES AND BLESSED CHRISTMAS ✨

Cloister iPhone shot at Chichester Cathedral, tickled in Snapseed.

I couldn't find a decent description of this spot, but it is located in the Truso valley in Georgia, and earlier I posted a picture of that scenic valley (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/49212632131/in/datepo...) where we stayed the night and enjoyed the spectacular setting of this Caucasion mountainscape.

What you see here are travertines, a sort of terraces formed by local springs, that contain a lot of minerals. The most famous terraces I know can be found in Turkey (Pamukkale).

The ones here are mostly orange and white, and if you look closely you can see a continuous film of water flowing over the rocks, depositing more material.

20 September 2019 I came back from my journey over a part of the Silk Road to and through Central Asia. 4 months of traveling through 14 countries (Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kirgizstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran) before I flew home from Teheran. An impressive journey in countries that are extremely beautiful, with lovely and welcoming people and diverse cultures and history.

Intense traveling with more than 20000 kilometers in our mobile home on sometimes roads that hardly could be called that way. We saw many villages and cities (some wonderful, others very ugly), countries that are transforming from the old Soviet era into something more related to older cultures and the way people live, often funded by oil readily available around the Caspian sea. We saw the amazing mountains south of the Black Sea, the wonderful Caucasus, and the high mountains in the far east close to China with peaks over 7000 meter, and not to forget the (Bulgarian) Alps!

We crossed the great steppe of Kazakhstan. a drive of at least 5000 km, the remnants of lake Aral, once one of the biggest lakes of the world, saw a rocket launch from Baikonur (this little part is Russian owned), we crossed many high mountains passes, and drove the breathtaking canyon that comes from the Pamir, beginning at ca 4500 meter, and going down for ca. 400km to an altitude of 1300 meter, driving for 100's of kilometers along the Afghan border.

And then the numerous lakes with all sorts of different colors from deep cobalt blue to turquoise, and one rare spectacle in Turkmenistan where a gas crater is burning already for more than 40 years. And finally and certainly not the least to mention an enormous amount of wonderful, hospitable and welcoming people. The woman often dressed in wonderful dresses, and bringing a lot of color in the streets of almost of all countries we visited.

This is completely legal, the plants are non-drug useable since they are THC-free and are used as a food for cattle.

I used the plants as a background for a portrait shooting since they are 2.5 meters high and give a nice "jungle" like atmosphere and have interesting leaves.

The description of Lofoten as a fairy tale land comes from the Norway's great poet Bjornstjerne Bjornson.

When you like nature as me, Lofoten is an amazing place to be, especially Reine. Reine has been chosen by Time magazine as one of the most beautiful fjords in the world, a sight for sore eyes. The views are just breathtaking, snow covered mountains, deep fjords, and beautiful colors.

The weather in Lofoten changes rapidly in winter. First half of my trip it was none-stop raining almost every day, I spent most of my time scouting or sitting in my cozy water front Rorbu cabin and enjoying the view from the window.

Does it look like a scene from Frozen?

Description in English and Dutch:

I already uploaded photos of the Westduinpark in The Hague near Scheveningen. Wednesday I was in the same park, but then the part near Kijkduin. This is photo number 7 in the new series. It is an impressive dune area that runs approximately from Scheveningen harbor to Kijkduin.There are Scottish Highlanders in the protected nature reserve to control the vegetation and there is really a lot to see in terms of flora and fauna. It is a combination of dunes, open sand area and forest. It is very special there because dunes and forests alternate and sometimes merge into one another. On warm sunny days, a lot of women walk barefoot on the sandy areas, to experience the ultimate feeling of freedom.There are hiking trails as well as cycle paths and horse riding trails in the very interesting park. A lot of people are really impressed by the vegetation, bunkers from the Second World War, steep dune hills and the impressive viewpoints. The view at those points of the beach and the sea and on the other side the buildings of the city is truly phenomenal. Come there once and experience a invisible blanket of oasis and peace. You will imagine yourself in a kind of paradise where worries and problems do not exist and where the war of thoughts in everyone's head disappears like snow in the sun for a moment in time, because freedom is in each of us.

Nederlands

Thank you very much for the visits, faves and comments. Cheers.

Splendid Fairy-wren

Scientific Name: Malurus splendens

Description: The breeding plumage of the male is predominantly blue, varying from cobalt-blue in the east of its range to violet-blue in the west.It has black bands at the base of the tail (absent in the violet-blue birds), across the breast and from the beak, through the eyes to join a band across the back of its neck. Its crown and cheek patches are paler blue. Wings and long tail are brown with a blue wash. His beak is black and his legs and feet are brown-grey. In non-breeding plumage, called eclipse, he is very similar to the female, being pale brown above and buff to white underneath although he retains the blue wash on wings and tail. The female does not have the blue wash on her wings, but does have a reddish-tan line from beak to eye that extends into a ring around her eye. Her beak is reddish-tan.

Similar species: The male in breeding plumage is quite distinct but in eclipse he is similar to the males of other fairy-wrens in eclipse. A faint wash of blue on male wings during eclipse distinguishes this species from others. The female is similar to females of other fairy-wren species, but has a bluer tail than most.

Distribution: These birds are widely distributed across Australia in two areas. One area is from about Shark Bay south through WA, through SA except the coast to about the Flinders Ranges and the southern and central parts of NT. The eastern area include SA from the Flinders Ranges, the far north-western tip of Vic, NSW east to about Moree and Balranald and south central Qld.

Habitat: These birds live in arid to semi-arid areas, in mostly dense shrublands or woodlands of acacia, and mallee eucalypt with dense shrubs.

Seasonal movements: These birds are mostly sedentary, defending a territory all year, but the younger females may disperse to another territory. In some areas they are semi-nomadic, depending on local conditions.

Feeding: Like most of the fairy-wrens, Splendid Fairy-wrens eat mostly insects and forage on both the ground and in shrubs. They live in groups which forage together.

Breeding: The Splendid Fairy-wren female builds an oval domed nest of dry grass, strips of bark and rootlets, with an entrance two thirds of the way up one side. The female is the only member of the group to incubate the eggs, but all members of the group feed the chicks.

Calls: A rapid series of slightly metallic, high-pitched pips that blend into an "undulating" call.

Minimum Size: 12cm

Maximum Size: 14cm

Average size: 13cm

Average weight: 9g

Breeding season: mostly September-December, but can extend from August to April

Clutch Size: 2 to 4, mostly 3

Incubation: 15 days

Nestling Period: 11 days

You've probably seen this before in the comments for one of my other photos, but it's taken its place on my photostream now. To be honest, I only uploaded due to this description. I didn't want to just upload some text. Granted, I could delete it, but I've been meaning to upload this photo for a while now...

If you've noticed, I haven't been posting as much as I do regularly. This weekend I was overwhelmed with busyness. I did find time to think about it though. I came to the conclusion that I should take a short break for this month. Invest a lot of time in my studies and really hanging with my family. And baking and making stuff for people. All of that is very time consuming, ha. So I think I should take a break from my little world of photos.

Another thing is that I've completely run out of ideas. I'm not really good at taking pictures of moments and pretty little things. I would rather leave that to people who have special eye for those things. I do have one more idea, but I'm probably going to save it for the day before Christmas or something.

Since I'm taking a break so I can focus better on, well, you know, "life", I probably won't be on flickr nearly as much. I'll still be around to comment and favorite photos here and there.

I love you, guys! :D! And I will miss you all so very much <3

EDIT:

GEEZ. Another out of focus portrait. What is up with that? xD

Excerpt from historicplaces.ca:

Description of Historic Place

The Flour Store is a one-and-a-half storey wooden building with a steep pitched gable roof. It is located along the waterfront in Battle Harbour, NL and is one of several buildings that were part of mercantile operations in the community. The designation is confined to the footprint of the building.

Heritage Value

The Flour Store has been designated a Registered Heritage Structure by the Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador for its historic and aesthetic values.

The Flour Store is historically valuable for its association with several notable merchant firms. Mercantile fishing premises were established at Battle Harbour by the firm of John Slade and Company of Poole, England in the early 1770s. Battle Harbour was a gateway to the rich fishing grounds of Labrador and was a primary port of call for fishing schooners involved in the Labrador fishery. Battle Harbour eventually became the capital of the Labrador floater fishery and developed into a year-round settlement. In 1871 John Slade and Company sold Battle Harbour to Baine Johnston and Co. Ltd., who operated from the site until 1955, when the premises were sold to Earle Brothers Freighting Services, who continued mercantile operations at Battle Harbour until the decline of the inshore fishery in the early 1990s.

The Flour Store also has historic value due to its age and as a physical reminder of a time when the cod fishery was the main industry in Newfoundland and Labrador. Studies suggest that the Flour Store, along with other mercantile buildings in Battle Harbour, was built in the first half of the 19th century. The first floor was used to store dry goods for commercial sale, while the second floor was used to store fishing gear for sale. For generations buildings such as the Flour Store were a common sight in coastal communities where the fishery was an economic mainstay.

The Flour Store has aesthetic value as it is an excellent example of the type of building constructed by mercantile firms in the 19th century. Built with a steeply pitched gable roof and clad in wooden clapboard, such buildings were designed for practical use and had to endure the rigours of a harsh environment. The Flour Store and other designated mercantile buildings in Battle Harbour are well-known buildings in the province and the entire premises is one of a few intact mercantile premises left in Newfoundland and Labrador.

All those elements which represent the historic and aesthetic value of the Flour Store, including:

-number of storeys;

-steeply pitched gable roof;

-wooden roof shingles;

-wooden clapboard;

-corner boards;

-original window size, style, trim and placement;

-original size, style, trim, placement and hardware of exterior doors;

-flag pole on main gable;

-wooden crane on main gable;

-size, style and placement of exterior stairs;

-traditional colour scheme of white with red trim;

-wooden post and cribbing foundations;

-building’s location in a major complex of related buildings.

Oh, add a description? Oh. Ok.

It's dark. There's water. And maybe fog, or mist.There are two poles in the water and each has a light. One is blue, or like almost aqua, but not so greenish. The other is red. On the horizon are more lights and some hills. Most of the lights have reflections in the water which appear as long, vertical streaks. Ok. I added a description...It would be funny if someone read this. I hope you like the picture. I do.

DESCRIPTION:

In 2023, Venus in Gemini formed a rare positive grand trine aligning with other planets, which created the perfect opportunity to seek positive changes in our lives which could involve food, health and peace. But we ignored the signs and soon after, life changed forever.

Now, many years into a bleak future, we live in a world where resources are scarce, fashion changed significantly and everyone struggles to get by. During these post-apocalyptic circumstances, a young woman gave birth to twin boys whom she named Pollox and Castor, after the Greek myth of the Gemini sign. Little does she know that these two little boys will grow into the two men that will save this precious earth with their scientific discoveries. And this new discovery, in an even further future, will be made during the exact same positive grand trine from 2023.

But this time, it will not be ignored.

Description of Historic Place

The Schoolhouse is located on the east side of Silvercreek Parkway, just north of Curtis Drive, in the City of Guelph. The one-and-a-half-storey fieldstone schoolhouse was constructed in circa 1865.

The property was designated, by the City of Guelph, in 2006, for its cultural heritage value or interest, under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act, By-law (2006) – 17929.

Heritage Value

The Schoolhouse is associated with education in the City of Guelph. The current structure was built in circa 1865 to replace an 1846 log schoolhouse located nearby. The wood bell tower was a later addition, in 1899. School trustees selected Guelph-based architect David Murray to draw the plans and supervise construction. Murray is known as the architect and builder of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, in Fergus, and was one of three architects considered for the building of St. George's Anglican Church, in Guelph.

In 1905, an experiment that involved transporting all Guelph Township students to the new MacDonald Consolidated School, left the building closed, only to see it re-open once again in 1907. A concrete block addition was added in 1949 to the rear of the school house.

Since 1962, the Schoolhouse has been associated with Local 541 of the United Electrical Radio and Machine Workers of America. Local 541 is now known as the Canadian Auto Workers Local 541.

The Schoolhouse is an excellent example of the Gothic Revival style. Typical of this form is the split-faced granite fieldstone construction and gable ends. The distinctive front facade consists of a corbie-stepped and corbelled gable with a double entrance and unusually tall narrow central four over four windows. The windows are surrounded by dressed limestone, lintels, sills, quoins and gable copings. Above the main entranceway is a wooden bell tower that was a later addition to the schoolhouse.
