This example of depth of field where the focused leaves in the front appear sharp, the leaves behind it appear slightly blurred, and the buildings in the far back are the most blurred.

im planning on entering a video productions contest this month, so i was out testing some video of the depth of field this lens has. so far i love the 1.4.

I chose to take this image focusing on the green leaf, showing how the technique can be used to bring it out of a background that's mostly green itself.

I did the basic order of operations for photos

Trying to get some depth.

Have a great sunday!

Subject: Plant

Key Element: Shape

Key Principle: Emphasis

The Fix: Saturation

Depth of Field: Shallow

Direction of Light: North

This was taken after dark on 10/07/2011 with only the overhead porch light for a light source.

Shutter speed: 1/23 sec.

Aperture: F/3.1

Focal length: 5mm

ISO: 6400

I was having a hard time with shallow depth of field for some reason, so it took me all week... that's why it was done after dark! LOL

This picture perfectly froze the motion of my friend Ana walking her dog, due to the high shutter speed. F/1.6, 1/8000

The plant is shown in great detail showing the depth of view bluring out the pots in the back

I was demonstrating depth of field to a buddy of mine, and got this shot. I

really like the colors and feel of the photo, so I decided to upload it.

Great color and great brightness of the flower; it couldn't be better! I have found so many flower in this season almost anywhere.

I posted this picture to show my experiments with depth of field. Here a wine bottle is blurry while the background to the right is in focus.

Fake flower pot of mine... I wanted to focus on one flower and blur the background. It'd be nicer to have more flowers in the background.

This is another photograph practising the depth of field.

Since f-stop is only f-4.0, therefore, except the item I focus on, the background is all blurred.

I chose this photo because I thought it showed the range of motion pretty well.

it was fascinating watching the light change on the canyon walls. we could sit there for hours and never get the same picture twice.
