A cat in greenery is a harmonious combination ... however, cats are always and everywhere harmonious :)
The ancient Egyptians had a special relationship with cats: they were revered as sacred animals; mummified like humans; depicted in sculpture and frescoes. And the very first cat "portrait" was written by the Egyptians.
For a long time it was believed that the Egyptians tamed cats. However, in 2004, a burial site dating back to 9500 BC was discovered in Cyprus. e., in which a cat was found together with a man. A wild beast would hardly have been put in a grave. It turned out that cats lived with people long before they appeared in Egypt. The Middle East began to be considered the birthplace of domestic cats, and Egypt was forgotten for some time. But not for long: in 2008, a burial was opened in southern Egypt, in which six cats were found - a male, a female and four kittens. Although this burial was younger than the Cypriot one (about 6000 years), it became clear that cats were known in Egypt much earlier than was thought until recently.
It is known that the ancestor of the domestic cat was the steppe cat Felis silvestris lybica - it still lives in the steppe, desert and partly mountainous regions of Africa, Western, Central and Central Asia, in Northern India, Transcaucasia and Kazakhstan. In 2007, it was possible to establish that all modern cats descended from him.
Seafarers brought the first cats to Rus' in the pre-Christian era. Exotic animals were a valuable commodity: the cost of a cat until the 15th century was comparable to the value of a healthy arable animal - an ox.
“Le Mur des Canuts” is a gigantic mural depicting ordinary life in the La Croix-Rousse neighborhood of Lyon, France. Hyperrealistic in imagery and packed with intricate details, this massive mural is considered one of the largest displays of public art in Europe.
The Ana Kai Tangata cave is of note because in the back left wall cave paintings depicting birds, mainly manutaras, can be seen. The paintings were drawn using natural earth pigments and animal fat, but the high humidity of the cave has harmed them almost to the point of erasing them.
As I mentioned in the last post Bell Rock depicted here resides next to Courthouse Butte so this shot logically follows my last, speaking of logic have a gander at the people high up on this monument. While the grey day made for a great photos it also was on the verge of rain and these intrepid climbers seem oblivious to the fact that water makes for a bad climbing buddy. This 500+ foot climb is easy going up, so much so that people find themselves in predicaments on the way down they never intended while making the climb up.

The artwork depicts a young girl swinging from a mallee eucalyptus tree gazing out over the endless vista that is Lake Tyrrell. A powerful Wedge Tail Eagle saws above the girl and emus run off into the night. For millennia this lake has existed, unchanged and untouched. It is a place of wonder and story. In this ever increasing busy day and age, people universally long for space and solitude.
This temple was built in mid 1800s for Burmese monks who spent time mourning the death of a local abbot. Inside is all wooden including a bamboo Buddha. The wood gives it a more spiritual ambience. Inside there is a series of wooden statues also carved in the mid 1800s depicting key scenes in the Buddha's life including when he gave his son and daughter to a beggar as slaves.

Hoisting her skirt as she crosses the stage, the performer embodies the allure of modern life that captivated artists at the beginning of the twentieth century. An amateur thespian and avid theater goer,Everett Shinn regularly depicted venues such as Keith's vaudeville theater,in which he emphasized the dramatic spectacle of the stage.Much like his contemporaries, including the French Impressionists Edgar Degas,Shinn imagined this scene from the angled vantage point of the audience-whose members he included in many of his canvases-testifying to his understanding of the theater as a social space.
"Depicted as a "lovable loser"... Charlie Brown is characterized as a person who frequently suffers, and as a result, is usually nervous and lacks self-confidence. He shows both pessimistic and optimistic attitudes: on some days, he is reluctant to go out because his day might just be spoiled, but on others, he hopes for the best and tries as much as he can to accomplish things." This depiction of Dewa Ruci is an allegory of human desires who continue to want to track down the whereabouts of their God by carrying out spiritual exploration. According to Javanese philosophy, humans are a small universe or microcosm (small world). And the universe is a big universe or macrocosm. But basically, the human universe is bigger than the universe. Because whoever knows himself, then he knows his God
The philosophy of Dewa Ruci in Javanese wayang stories is about searching for identity, obedience to teachers, and independence. This story also illustrates that humans must achieve perfection by knowing their true identity. The following are some of the philosophies contained in the story of Dewa Ruci: Manunggaling Kawula Gusti Man must unite with God, or unite with his last strength. The search for knowledge and perfection Humans must seek the origins and purpose of their lives to achieve perfection. Introduction to identity Humans must recognize their origins as God's creation. Search for the meaning of life Man must seek the meaning of his life and act in harmony with God's will. Getting rid of lust Man must get rid of lust and calm his soul in order to be one with God. In the story of Dewa Ruci, Bima is the main character who was ordered by his teacher, Resi Drona, to look for the water of life on Mount Candramuka. Bima managed to overcome various obstacles, including meeting giants and dragons, and finally met Dewa Ruci.
Depiction of the Last Supper in the St. Janskerk in Gouda. The church in Gouda, Zuid-Holland, boasts a magnificent collection of 16th-century stained-glass windows of biblical and historical scenes. As often happened in those days, this one blends the two by showing Philip II (the infamous king of Spain) and his spouse Mary Tudor as direct witnesses of the Last Supper. As donators of the window they were entitled to a front row seat in any possible event, historical or other. The piety and act of faith shown here in this Dutch church shouldn't fool anybody as Philip became during his reign (1556-1598) by his ruthless policy one of the worst enemies of the Dutch and would eventually be kicked out of the country. The window was crafted by Dirk Crabeth in 1557.

These young kestrels (depicted in their nest box - yet these are wild birds not held in captivity) were ready to leave their nest and they actually took off the day the picture was taken. There were four of them in total, with the last one getting a bit more attention from me (but I didn't stay to not disturb its first flight).
This image depicts an old window on a side façade of the Chiesa della Madonna del Carmine in Noto, Sicily. The window features wooden shutters, weathered with time, and painted in a dark brown color, now peeling and revealing layers of history. The surrounding wall is textured and aged, with warm, earthy tones that complement the rustic appearance of the window. The shutters are partially open, allowing a glimpse of the barred interior window, covered with a light curtain.
Noto, a city in southeastern Sicily, is renowned for its exquisite Baroque architecture. Rebuilt in the 18th century after a devastating earthquake in 1693, Noto is often referred to as the "Capital of Baroque." Its streets are lined with elegant palaces, churches, and buildings that showcase the grandeur of Sicilian Baroque style. The Chiesa della Madonna del Carmine, like many other structures in Noto, exemplifies this architectural brilliance with its intricate facades and artistic details.
The city's historic center has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, attracting visitors from around the world who come to admire its beauty and rich cultural heritage. Noto's architecture is characterized by its harmonious proportions, intricate stone carvings, and the use of local golden limestone, which gives the buildings their distinctive, warm glow. This window, with its timeworn charm, is a testament to the enduring beauty and craftsmanship that defines Noto's architectural legacy.

Depicted in this scene are some of my most favorite creations of Nature: Brilliant light, a deep blue sky showing no beginning nor end, puffy white clouds with a few threatening gray ones keeping things interesting, and a mountain lake reflecting its own version of the same scene right back to me.

The four evangelists are traditionally depicted on the sails of the dome, and their symbolic images are written below them.
The evangelists are depicted with open books, the figure of each of them is twice the size of a person.
Saint Matthew the Evangelist is on the southeast sail.
According to the fathers of the church, each of the four animals, in addition to the evangelists, expresses a style or character that is characteristic of the gospel of each of them. The image of the winged man must be assimilated by Matthew, since he begins his gospel with the human genealogy of the Savior.
Matthew the Apostle, also known as Saint Matthew and possibly as Levi, was, according to the New Testament, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus. According to Christian traditions, he was also one of the four Evangelists as author of the Gospel of Matthew, and thus is also known as Matthew the Evangelist, a claim rejected by most biblical scholars, though the "traditional authorship still has its defenders."

The stone sculptures in Sno, a small village in the Kazbegi region of Georgia, are part of a remarkable art project in the Caucasus. These sculptures consist of impressive stone artworks depicting giant faces, often with a melancholic or mysterious expression. They were created by local artist Merab Piranishvili, who is renowned for his unique ability to bring faces and emotions to life in natural stone. Working primarily with local stones, he carves expressive facial features that tell stories about life, the soul, and the deep connection with nature. The sculptures symbolize the ancient wisdom of the mountain dwellers and the spirit of the past. The faces sometimes appear sad or contemplative, reflecting both the challenges and the beauty of life in the Caucasus. Fully integrated into the surrounding landscape, the sculptures stand among the mountains, hills, and rugged grasslands, blending seamlessly with their natural environment. This is what makes Piranishvili’s work so unique: he respects the natural shapes of the stones and subtly adds human characteristics without compromising their raw, natural beauty. Piranishvili often works directly in the field, selecting local stones and carving them with a hammer and chisel. He carefully considers the natural form of each stone, adapting his designs to create a result that looks organic and harmonizes with the surrounding environment.
Sno is located near the breathtaking Stepantsminda area and the imposing Mount Kazbegi. The stone sculptures are a hidden gem in this region, attracting an increasing number of art enthusiasts and travelers. The site exudes a serene, almost meditative atmosphere—perfect for those seeking something unique off the beaten path. If you ever find yourself near Kazbegi, these sculptures are well worth a visit. They offer a truly unique experience where art and nature come together in perfect harmony.

Renowned British street artist Dan Kitchener participated in the annual street art festival by HKwalls in 2018. Kitchener often takes inspirations from urban sceneries of Tokyo and Hong Kong to create his works, which appear in many cities in Europe, Asia and North America.
Kitchener’s murals often depict imaginary urban scenery inspired by a fix of streets scenes from Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Museum reproduction of a Bastet figurine for the Looking Close on Friday challenge: "black."
Bastet or Bast, also known as Ubasti or Bubastis, is a goddess of ancient Egyptian religion, possibly of Nubian origin, worshipped as early as the Second Dynasty. In ancient Greek religion, she was known as Ailuros. Bastet was worshipped in Bubastis in Lower Egypt, originally as a lioness goddess, a role shared by other deities such as Sekhmet. Eventually Bastet and Sekhmet were characterized as two aspects of the same goddess, with Sekhmet representing the powerful warrior and protector aspect, and Bastet, who increasingly was depicted as a cat, representing a gentler aspect. -- Courtesy Wikipedia
For Macro Mondays theme; "Star". (An enameled lapel pin depicting Alaska's state flag - measuring 3/4 x 1/2 inch in size.)
HMM!
The following lyrics from Alaska's state song . . .
Eight stars of gold on a field of blue -
Alaska's flag. May it mean to you
The blue of the sea, the evening sky,
The mountain lakes, and the flower's nearby;
The gold of the early sourdough's dreams,
The precious gold of the hills and streams;
The brilliant stars in the northern sky,
The "Bear" - the "Dipper" - and, shining high,
The great North Star with its steady light,
Over land and sea a beacon bright.
Alaska's flag - to Alaskans dear,
The simple flag of a last frontier.

This area has a long human history. Aboriginal people of the Bidjara and Nuri groups lived in this area. Evidence of thousands of years of Aboriginal life remains at sites associated with ceremonies and the stories of ancestral spirits. Aboriginal rock art sites within Carnarvon National Park are some of the most significant in the Central Highlands—and indeed the world. In touch with their surroundings, they thrived by inventive use of the resources around them. This land continues to hold great significance for Aboriginal people today.
The course of the upper Maranoa River, close by here, has been central to the lives of Aboriginal people. "Mundagudtha", the Rainbow Serpent, created this river during a severe drought, when water from a big spring carved the winding river bed from the land. Bidjara people believe that the people of the Maranoa area originated from this spring.
Work carried out by archaeologists at Mount Moffatt changed forever our understanding of Aboriginal history. In the 1960s, Professor John Mulvaney excavated the floors of the tafoni at The Tombs and at nearby Kenniff Cave. At Kenniff Cave, he found the remains of campfires extending almost three metres below the ground. Remains from these campfires were carbon-dated, revealing that Aboriginal people had occupied this site as far back as 19,500 years ago. This was the first research location where it was revealed that Aboriginal people had inhabited Australia as long ago as the last Ice Age.
Aboriginal society in the Mount Moffatt area was completely disrupted soon after the arrival of European settlers in the mid 1800s. Conflict and introduced European diseases such as smallpox and influenza, as well as opium brought to the area by Chinese workers, further devastated Aboriginal communities. By 1920, those Aboriginal people remaining in the Mount Moffatt area had been forcibly removed to distant reserves at Taroom, Woorabinda and Cherbourg. Despite these immense impacts on their traditional society, Aboriginal people have survived. Bidjara people today continue to be involved with the national park and rural life in this area.

For the Macro Mondays theme, Jan 25 2021, we were asked to photographically depict a song that we had related to during lock-down. The song that spun through my mind during that time was Queen's "Another one bites the dust".
During our lock-down in New Zealand, at one stage we seemed to have a lot of flies coming into the house (Summer), so we were singing the song as we swatted them.
Funny thing - I had only just managed to stop it singing around in my head all day, when this theme was suggested, but now it's back 😂 LOL
🎶Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone and another one gone
Another one bites the dust
Hey I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust 🎶

Life in Mei Foo-Now and Then by Ng Yuen Wa
The sixteen panels will be divided into two main parts according to their themes, one part is about the past of Mei Foo and the other illustrates the life of the Mei Foo residents at the present moment. These two main parts can be subdivided into four groups, each group consisting of four panels:
The first group, On the Night of the Mid-Autumn Festival , depicts how the Mei Foo residents used to share their love and joy at the podium under the full moon at the Mid-Autumn Festival.;
The second group, centred on the theme of Memory of the Seashore, brings the viewers back to a time when there was a wonderful seashore at the Mei Foo Sun Chuen. With a touch of nostalgia, this group of works highlights the sublime seascape and the serene atmosphere of the Mei Foo Sun Chuen.
The Mei Foo residents depicted in the third group, Apartment in the Starry Metropolitan, enjoy the glittering night scene of this prosperous metropolitan – Hong Kong – through gazing out of their apartment windows, while they are resting in their apartments after a day of work.
In Mei Foo, a piece of land has been reclaimed from the sea and a park with different kinds of recreational facilities is built on the reclamation area. The fourth group of work, entitled A Delightful Weekend, focuses on the recreational activities of the Mei Foo residents taking place in the park.
Depicting the view from the Tokyo Skytree Tower.
Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Skytree:
Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー, Tōkyō Sukaitsurī) is a broadcasting and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo. It became the tallest tower in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634 meters (2,080 ft) in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world, displacing the Canton Tower, and the third tallest structure in the world after Merdeka 118 (678.9 m or 2,227 ft) and the Burj Khalifa (829.8 m or 2,722 ft). It is the tallest freestanding tower in the OECD, the G20 and G7 countries.
The tower is the primary television and radio broadcast site for the Kantō region; the older Tokyo Tower no longer gives complete digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage because it is surrounded by high-rise buildings. Skytree was completed on Leap Day, 29 February 2012, with the tower opening to the public on 22 May 2012. The tower is the centrepiece of a large commercial development funded by Tobu Railway (which owns the complex) and a group of six terrestrial broadcasters headed by NHK. Trains stop at the adjacent Tokyo Skytree Station and nearby Oshiage Station. The complex is seven kilometres (4.3 miles) northeast of Tokyo Station. Sumida Aquarium is in the Tokyo Solamachi complex.
Design
The tower's design was published on 24 November 2006, based on the following three concepts:
Fusion of neofuturistic design and the traditional beauty of Japan
Catalyst for revitalization of the city
Contribution to disaster prevention – "Safety and Security"
The base of the tower has a structure similar to a tripod; from a height of about 350 m (1,150 ft) and above, the tower's structure is cylindrical to offer panoramic views of the river and the city. There are observatories at 350 m (1,150 ft), with a capacity of up to 2,000 people, and 450 m (1,480 ft), with a capacity of 900 people. The upper observatory features a spiral, glass-covered skywalk in which visitors ascend the last 5 metres to the highest point at the upper platform. A section of glass flooring gives visitors a direct downward view of the streets below.
A street shot depicting two men in dissimilar stations in life - a lowly worker in casual clothes whose job consists mainly of moving merchandise and a well-groomed man in a business attire who most likely engages in a certain professional activity.
Captured in early morning at the town proper of Subic, Zambales, Philippines.
The first photo from this series depicted the place where I spent my first of many nights homeless. After spending nights sleeping over friends houses or in my car, I finally found a house to call home. Strangers opened up their house to me. As I spent more time there, these strangers became my new family. I remember a night working with Steve, we talked about his cancer, why I got kicked out of my house and it came up that he didn't even know my last name. I had been living there for months and these amazing people had no clue who I even was, but they were so compassionate to help another individual when they needed it most. All of us who lived here have gone through so much, we've laughed, cried, and lost together. Although we may have less time these days to see one another, I speak for all of us when I say these bonds we've created can never be broken by any space or time.

This star-studded image from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope depicts globular cluster NGC 6717, which lies more than 20,000 light-years from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius. Globular clusters are roughly spherical collections of stars tightly bound together by gravity.
The bright foreground stars at the center of the image reside between Earth and the cluster, and are distinguished by the crisscross diffraction spikes that form when their light interacts with the structures supporting Hubble’s secondary mirror.
The constellation Sagittarius is in the same area of the night sky as the center of the Milky Way, which is filled with light-absorbing gas and dust. This absorption of light – which astronomers call “extinction” – makes studying globular clusters near the galactic center challenging. To determine the properties of NGC 6717, astronomers relied on a combination of Hubble’s Wide Field Camera 3 and the Advanced Camera for Surveys.
