Denver Union Station is the main railway station and central transportation hub in Denver, Colorado. In 2012, the station underwent a major renovation transforming it into the centerpiece of a new transit-oriented mixed-use development built on the site's former railyards.[5] The station house re-opened in the summer of 2014 as a combination of the 112-room Crawford Hotel, several restaurants and retailers, and a train hall. Students move to the side of the capitol, waiting patiently to get in. Ironically, each student must pass through a metal detector to enter the building.

A random block in downtown Denver, where I think I like the mix of the chaotic city surrounding the regular repeating pattern of the tower block. Both noisy and regulated at the same time.

I quite liked Denver as a city when we stayed there for a few days as Laura was speaking at the OSHWA Summit that year, but I don't really have many photos of it to reflect why. I suspect I find it hard to capture the the subtle space between large pictures like this one and the close up detail shots, and there in lies the personable space that makes a place good.

Or it could have just been because of Voodoo Donuts.

Denver Union Station is the main railway station and central transportation hub in the city. It is located at 17th and Wynkoop streets and includes the historic terminal building, train shed, 22-gate underground bus facility and light rail station. A station opened on the site in 1881, burning in 1894. The current Beaux Arts structure was erected in two stages, with an enlarged central portion completed in 1914. The station underwent a major renovation in 2012, transforming it into the centerpiece of a new transit-oriented mixed-use development built on the site's former railyards. The station house re-opened in the summer of 2014 as a combination of the 112-room Crawford Hotel, several restaurants and retailers and a train hall.

Seen from the west end off I-25 and Speer.

A rooftop shot viewing Denver from the south east. So I took this picture on top of the roof of an apartment complex, 12 stories up I believe. It was ridiculously windy; I am talking crazy wind. It was nearly impossible to get a three exposure shot even with my sturdy tripod without my gear shaking. I am not exactly a fan of heights too, so it was a bit unerving. So windy in fact, it blew over my camera with my brand new sigma 10-20 lens when my back was turned. Yes it took a hard fall right onto the concrete, but luckily that stuff is tough as nails, it would be ok. Another thing I was battling was my stupid battery. I swear a full charge on that thing lasts only 45 minutes. Luckily I had brought my charger with me, but I was running back and forth between charging the battery and putting in back in the camera to snap off a pictures of the dwindling sunset. Whew, that was quite the ramble, oh well, I think it was worth it.

Denver's Courthouse puts on a controversial Christmas display every holiday season. Disregarding the politics I find the scene fascinating to shoot but Santa Claus underneath a POW flag strikes even me as a little incongruous.

Regardless I always have a blast shooting this scene! This, the "Bear" and the "Mustang" encapsulate Denver's funky architectural style.

Most images depict the classic Christmas color scene, I wanted to show something a little different. Thanks for looking and commenting!!
