The building was built in the style of historicism with neo-Gothic and French Renaissance elements.
The Podgorsky House (also known as the “Baron’s Castle”) is an estate at the intersection of Teatralnaya (now Lysenko Street) and Yaroslavova Val in Kyiv. In literature, Podgorsky’s house is also sometimes called the “Knight’s Shelter”.
Будинок Підгірського (також відомий під назвою «Замок барона») — садиба на перехресті Театральної (нині вул. Лисенка) та Ярославова Вала у Києві. У літературі будинок Підгірського також іноді називають «Притулок Лицаря».
Фасад замку прикрашають горгульї, що надає будівлі страшного вигляду.
Спочатку на цьому місці в 1852 побудували двоповерховий будинок, що належав Ганні Каліті. Після її смерті в 1890 році маєток успадкували діти, а потім його придбав поміщик Михайло Підгорський. Підгірський вирішив знести стару будівлю та збудувати середньовічний замок за проектом Миколи Добачевського. 1898 року на першому поверсі відкрили кондитерську, а з 1912 року - кінотеатр.
