Moving into her permanent home at last - Our Lady of the New Millenium

This statue has been "on tour" throughout "Chicagoland" for the last 10 years. It is 33 feet tall and made from 8400 pounds (4 tons) of stainless steel. It was the dream of the late Carl Demma, who commissioned it as a gift for the people of Chicago. The sculptor was Charles Cropper Parks. It will be on permanent display at the Shrine of Christ's Passion near St. John the Evangelist Church in St. John, Indiana. The statue was still on the back of a flat bed trailer in a parking lot behind the church, from April 2011 until July 2013.

“What originally sparked my interest about Thiel was its location. It was a good distance from my house in Pittsburgh, but if I needed to come home for something, I could. What sold me on Thiel was having the opportunity to not only receive a high-quality education, but also compete in two NCAA sports. However, my favorite thing about Thiel is all the great people. The people here are very special, and they know how to make you feel like family. I am very involved at Thiel being a member of both the football and lacrosse teams, I am the class vice president, I’m part of the Thiel Team, and I even dress up as Tommy the Tomcat from time to time! My favorite experience since coming here is being accepted for who I am. I can act like myself around everyone here, and they love me and respect me for it. I’m not just some unknown person, the Thiel College community truly makes me feel important. My piece of advice for incoming students is try your best not to be shy or nervous when you first get here. It’s OK to be at a new place around people that you’ve never seen before. I promise everyone here is friendly and they want what’s best for you. If you pass by someone you’ve never met before don’t be afraid to say hello or spark a conversation. Making new friends here is easy as long as you’re willing to put yourself out there.”
