If it is so, black top deflects the sun light and the heat too. But we know very well that inside of black car is much warmer than light shade cars , how come?

F-14A Tomcat - 1/15th Scale

After 9 months of work my Tomcat is finally done. The model depicts Wichita 106 from VF-1 Wolfpack squadron, one of the first two squadrons to deploy onto a carrier with the Tomcat. It is displayed on a section of the USS Enterprise Aircraft Carrier that carried the squadron in 1974 and 1975.

The plane itself measures 127cm long and contains roughly 8,000 pieces. As with my Phantom it has PF function powered control surfaces including elevons, rudder and spoilers along with a host of other manual functions like variable geometry swing wings, leading and trailing edge flaps, speed brakes and arrestor hook.

The model also has an after-market F-14A sound module with a 2-inch speaker in each engine tail pipe complete with start-up and shut-down sequences and LED lights that engage at the afterburner stage.

There are numerous custom made decals and stencils, a detailed cockpit and custom vacuum formed canopy glazing. The “airbags” that sit under the sweeping wings are made from dyed Lego sail material.

The carrier deck is a section depicting the starboard forward catapult of the USS Enterprise, complete with jet blast deflector, MD-1 Tow Tractor and various poseable deck crew (designed by the awesome Joe Perez).

The nose gear is inter-changeable to depict either standing or catapult launch stances.

There are certainly nods to some of the other great Lego Tomcat builds out there so thanks to everyone who provided inspiration. This was undoubtable the most complex and challenging project I have done to date, I found the Tomcat’s curves incredibly hard to re-create even at this scale.

Thanks for looking, next up it’s either going to be a 1/15th scale F-8E Crusader or a 1/10 scale Spitfire Mk XIV…see you in 6-9 months 

“The Apollo 12 Astronauts Charles Conrad and Alan Bean walk across the lunar surface to the Surveyor III spacecraft. The Lunar Module landing site is 1,113 ft. away in the Sea of Storms area. The second extravehicular activity is to retrieve the TV camera off the Surveyor spacecraft returning to the Lunar Module via different routes picking up lunar samples. This is the second U.S. manned lunar landing mission.”

Yet another beautiful work by Craig Kavafes, exercising a little bit of artistic license to capture both vehicles.

Compare to Russell Arasmith's depiction of the same event, using even more artistic license:

Note the Lunar Equipment Conveyor (LEC) on the lunar surface, leading back up the ladder into the Lunar Module. The LEC was used to transfer cargo (primarily lunar samples I believe) & equipment (mostly cameras I think) into and out of the LM. I don't think I've ever seen the LEC depicted in any other LM artwork, but then again, this is Mr. Kavafes.

"Sissssssssssteeeeeeeeer. Se-leeeeeen-aaaah."

The voice echoed the halls. It was deep, raspy.

Selina drew her whip. "Karl?" she called out.

A black clad figure dropped from the chandelier above her. It looked like Blake, but she'd recognise her brother's swagger anywhere.

"You stopped writing," the King giggled, a perverse smile on its' face. What was once the cocky chuckle of an overgrown frat boy had become something far more malicious.

Selina shrugged, trying to keep her composure. "Well, you were dead. A lot. After a point, I just stopped keeping track. That, and that one Thanksgiving incident really soured my perceptions of you," she explained, taking a step back.

The King smiled again as he walked slowly towards her, licking his lips. "Ah, what is a tainted turkey between siblings," it laughed, stroking Blake's beard absent mindedly. "No, please. Tell me," it snarled, his smile fading as a set of metal claws retracted from his gloves.

As he lunged at her, her whip cracked against its' skull, knocking it backwards into a trophy cabinet, powdered glass sprinkling onto its' shoulders.

"Oh, sister, how I've missed our little spats!" it yelled. "It's really been too long!" it laughed, as it picked up a fallen trophy and hurled it at her.

As she deflected it, she left herself wide open. Back on its' feet, the King flew through the air- And was promptly knocked through a wall by a caped figure.

"You don't touch her!" Bruce yelled, as he grabbed the beast by it's tail, and hurled it's flailing body against the fireplace.

"I'm her brother! I've more right to her than you!" the beast yelled back, stabbing Bruce in the shoulder with a nearby fire poker.

"Bruce!" Selina called out, as her whip wrapped around the King's neck, pulling him out of Bruce's path.

"Selina, stay back," he grunted, as he pulled the weapon out of his arm, and bandaged his wound.

"Double jeopardy," the King whistled. "How fun!"

It tugged on the whip, pulling Selina forward, and once she was in reach, it grabbed her face.

In return, she slashed him across the wrist, causing him to recoil, if only temporarily.

"You're diseased!" Batman growled, as he swung forward, and punched it across the face, blood spurting from it's mouth.

"Yours is the disease! And she shall be cleansed of your stench. And with this fool's body, it's not really even incest, is it?"

...

Bruce bowed his head, disgusted.

"And now officially, it's gone too far," Selina said, putting her hand to her face, embarrassed.

Karl grinned, and spat its' blood over Bruce's face; Disoriented, he stumbled backwards, leaving him open to a critical blow to the chest. And as the Beast drew it's knife, a white baton struck it in the back of the head.

==ISA Headquarters. An Hour Ago==

"Cynthia, I have brought you a new friend," Ito said, as he placed a hand on a large wooden door, a series of padlocks holding it shut. As he slid the metal latch open, he gestured to Chancer proudly.

"This, is Montgomery. I thought you might like to play with someone your own age," Ito said, as he raised a single warning finger. "She has an 8 o'clock curfew, and must be in bed by 9."

Chancer peered through the keyhole. Sitting on an uncomfortable looking bed was Ito's daughter, a girl who appeared to be no older than 17. She, Sharpe noted, did not look happy to be here.

"She's in one of her moods," Ito replied regretfully. "She stayed up until 10 last night, silly girl. It makes her irritable. Come, I have much more to show you," he said, placing his arm around him.

"Oh, hello Montgomery!" a booming voice called out from behind them, as Chancer and Ito made their way down the hall. "Fancy seeing you here!"

Sharpe waved back, barely paying attention. "Hey, Dekker," he muttered. Then, realisation struck him. "Hey wait a minute," he said as he spun around.

"He's fond of our open bar," Ito lamented, as he made an effort to pull Sharpe away from Dekker's clutches.

"Yeah, but- Open bar?"

The Dragon King nodded. "Yes, I hoped that would interest you. Please, let me show you our gymnasium. Lawrence will be thrilled."

~

Ito squirted a mixture of hand sanitizer onto Sharpe's hands, and poured him a steaming mug of hot chocolate. "These are troubling times," he explained. "Every precaution is necessary."

"Thank you," Chancer replied sheepishly, as he stuck a marshmallow into the cup and swallowed it whole.

"Ito..." Gambler growled impatiently.

"My apologies, Stephen," Dragon King nodded as he slid a series of files onto the table.

"Blake..." Chancer muttered, recognising the muscular, apparently naked figure on the top most picture.

Unnoticed by Sharpe, Gambler coughed into his hankerchief, specks of blood staining it red. Ito looked at him worriedly, and turned back to Chancer, now flicking through the files half heartedly.

"Tell me, boy," Ito began, "How familiar are you with the Enchantress?"

Chancer shrugged. "Just the basic stuff. Belly dancing, mostly."

"Revisionist history," Ito scoffed. "We believe that Karl Kyle may be an incubus, a creature who's purpose is to bond with it's sister spirit, the succubus, and produce an heir."

"Wow, so like Game of Thrones?" Sharpe asked, intrigued.

Gambler put his hand to his face, embarrassed. "Ignore him, Doctor, he's-"

"If their family trees are also filled with blood and incest, then yes."

Chancer frowned. "Do you even watch TV?"

Ito bowed his head. "I'm told the final season was disappointing."

==Wayne Manor: The West Wing==

Standing on the rooftop, dressed head to toe in crimson gowns, the Misfits surveyed the ongoing situation. Beside them, binoculars drawn, Hellhound could just make out the black suits of Karl Kyle and his sister, as they dueled in a hallway on the other side of the manor.

Chuck tugged on his collar irritably. "I gotta ask, are the robes essential to the process, or-"

Hellhound looked over at him, a wry smile on his face. "Oh, what? Nah, they're completely useless. I just thought you looked adorable."

"Thank you," Rigger said, blushing slightly, as Chuck and Ten sheepishly removed their 'ceremonial gowns.'

"Here," Hellhound commanded, as he handed the binoculars over to Reardon, (who gestured to his goggles awkwardly), and then to Chuck. "Told you I could find him," he said.

"How the hell did you do that?" Chuck asked, as he looked through the binoculars, clearly impressed.

"DNA recombinator, right?" Rigger asked.

"Something like that," Hellhound nodded. "I used a blacklight."

As Chuck looked back through the binoculars he frowned; staring back at him, wholeheartedly confused, appeared to be Batman, now mouthing the words 'Behind you!'

Suddenly, a golf ball flew through the air, and knocked Reardon to the ground.

"Oh, crap, it's Team Rocket," he exclaimed, as the ISA's enforcers, Sportsmaster and Tigress, jumped from the adjacent tower.

"Cheadle!" Hellhound whistled, as a large dog lunged at Sportsmaster, clamping it's jaws around his arm. Hesitant to commit animal abuse of any kind, Crusher took to simply waving his arm about, the dog's teeth sinking further into his flesh.

Rigger was on the ground now too; Tigress holding him down by the throat. 'Normally, I'd be ok with this,' he thought to himself, drifting in and out of consciousness. 'Normally.'

When he next looked up, Tigress was being dragged back along the ground, a black whip around her neck. Selina gave a thumbs up to Joey, and he blushed gratefully.

'Ok, I'm very much ok with this,' he thought, as he lay down again, exhausted.

"Friends of yours?" Batman asked, as he glided to the ground.

"Not exactly," Chuck replied.

"Well, you better start explaining this. Fast," he grimaced.

Brown frowned. "Honestly, I really don't know what they're doing he- Oh," he trailed off as his gaze was drawn to the adjacent roof.

"Hey guys!" Sharpe was waving from across the roof, as Ito dragged the Beast's unconscious body away.

Rigger, waved back, a bemused look on his face.

"What... What the hell..." Chuck gasped.

"What... What are you guys doing here?" Sharpe called out.

"Looking for Blake!" Rigger yelled excitedly.

Chancer gestured at the King's slumped over body. "Found him!" he mouthed. "Job done," he grinned, as he climbed onto the drainpipe.

"Chancer, wait, we're going to exorcise him!" Chuck called after him earnestly, as he pointed to Hellhound, currently bludgeoning Sportsmaster with a hockey stick.

Sharpe's face fell. "Oh, shoot! Was that today? Fuck me..." he glanced at Ito, and back to the Misfits, his lip curled. He shrugged awkwardly, and slung the beast over his shoulder, as he chased after Ito.

"Chancer!" Chuck called after him. "Chancer!"

"My hands are tied!" Sharpe's voice echoed, as he disappeared into the night, the King of Cats in tow.

"Asshole!" Chuck screamed angrily.

"Well, he says his hands are tied," Rigger said, patting Chuck on the back.

...

"I just wanted to prove we can do something right without the costumes," Chuck said.

"Yeah..." Rigger nodded solemnly. "Wait, we did something right with them on?"

==Elsewhere==

The keys turned in the lock. The man, in his early forties, was bald and pale; his forehead lined with red tattoos. He opened the door, flicked on the light and placed a shopping bag filled with Halloween decorations on the floor.

"Trick or Treat," a voice called out.

"I swore I locked that door," Julian sighed, as he reached under his pants leg, and grabbed a concealed knife.

"That, won't be necessary," the voice said. "I'm a big fan, actually."

Julian turned around. "Oh? And you are-?"

The figure was sitting in Day's armchair, a mop of grey hair on his head, and dressed in an unassuming red sweater, they were flicking a black lighter on and off. On and off. On and off. "Guess," he replied bitterly.

"Well, unless USPS practices have changed as of late... You're not the mailman."

The lighter slammed shut. The figure's hand seemed to twitch, just slightly. "Call me Carson. I, have a proposal for you. Concerning Drury Walker..."

Julian's eyes flashed with recognition, if only briefly. And then, he smiled. "Listen... Mr Barson, was it?"

"It's Carson," Ted shuddered, as he slammed his fist onto the table. "I was at Walker's fucking wedding, for god's sake."

"So were a lot of people," Julian lamented. 'It's hard to keep track of everyone, and the festivities were somewhat marred by the arrival of a lunatic in a green onesie trying to kill us. Oh, that was you, was it?" he added, an air of mock disappointment in his tone.

Carson slumped in his chair. "Yeah."

"Well, then, Mr Barson-" Julian continued undaunted, smiling faintly at Carson's growing anger, "I have neither a want for, nor need of, your help, so why don't you save us all some time and find yourself a nice shallow grave to lie in."

"Listen-" Carson began, rising from his chair.

"No, you listen," Day said sternly, as he rested his hand on Carson's chest. "The Calendar Man is being forgotten, and I can't have that. I will not fade into obscurity. I will not have my legacy swept aside. I have no intention of being forgotten like you, you wretched, miserable pastiche of better men. Now, I'm sure you had an excellent speech prepared, something heartfelt and meaningful to woo me to your side... I'm sure that when you walked in here, you thought you had all the answers, and all the power. But. You. Don't."

Carson's jaw clenched. "What makes you so sure?"

Day nodded. "Quite simple really... Do you where we are?"

Ted raised a confused eyebrow.

"No," Julian sighed. "Of course not... Drury Walker's first apartment. It has a certain... humbleness to it, not like that Mansion on the mainland... See, you think you know the Misfits, but you don't. Not like I do."

"I know enough," Carson replied, cracking his neck.

"Oho, Really? Then you'll know Charles Brown is currently employed at Wiggins Incorporated. It's a toy company, recently acquired by Lexcorp. Good pay. His assistant, Laura, is a wonderful girl, she claims she's on a diet, but she also has a jar of Chocos hidden beneath her desk. His boss, Richard is tough, but fair, with a childlike approach to innovation that I appreciate.

Joseph Rigger has gone into business with Philip Reardon, Night Owl Renovations, I believe they've called it. It's a construction company, I'm sure you've seen their work on the Arkham ruins... What you probably didn't know, was that they have a shared fondness for Tarantino, and those Italian pastries, cannolis, are they called?

Garfield Lynns, meanwhile, is working at Panessa Studios, dating the Carpenter, Jenna. It's no surprise he likes her, I suppose- she's got a tough exterior, shorts, and a nifty little powerdrill she's not afraid to use. Hah. She used to run around with the Wonderland Gang and had a brief fling with a certain False Facer, I'm sure you've heard of him. You're the expert, right? They leave work at 6pm, each and every day. They have a coffee at the local bistro, Finnegan's, run by an Irish gentleman, Sean something or other... He orders a water, her, a lemonade. No ice. Then, they share a cab, stopping at her apartment first, of course- 117B, Wayne Boulevard, and then, his. He changes shifts with his... baby mama, giving her some time to burn whoever she wants, and he sends his daughter to bed, before finally- finally, falling asleep in front of M*A*S*H reruns. I could go on... Tell you about Mitchell Mayo's secret pastime of cookie dough sculpting, or Eric Needham's old modelling jobs. How about the very real skeleton in Leonard Fiasco's closet, or Montgomery Sharpe's K$sha playlists... I wouldn't want to bore you.

So, tell me, Barson," Julian snarled, as he aimed his knife at Ted's stomach. "What exactly do you know again?"

Carson pushed it aside. "I know that, right now, Kite-Man is working with the Hellhound, trying to track down this Catman. I know that Walker's bitch is in the ground, and it's about time he joins her. And I also know a certain dimension jumping mercenary who'd just love to help us out," Carson smiled.

Julian shook his head. "You know, for a moment there, I almost thought you were building to something. But you're really just a blunt instrument aren't you? "Put him in the ground..." How horrendously... ordinary."

"What," Carson complained. "You got a better idea?"

"Several. If you want to hurt Drury, if you want to lure him here, if you want to kill him... Well, you can always start with that bleeding, broken heart of his."

Carson scowled. "What, dig up his wife?"

Julian rolled his eyes melodramatically. "Oh, please... whoever said I meant Miranda?"

Carson's eyes sparked with realisation. "Thank you, Julian. It's been... educational," he grimaced, as he shoved past him.

"It won't ever go away, you know," Day warned.

"What won't?" Carson spat back, his hand on the doorknob.

Julian's brow furrowed. "That hole in your chest."

6115 was built in 1927 by the North British Locomotive Company in Springburn, Glasgow. It was named Scots Guardsman in 1928 after the Scots Guards. After receiving smoke deflectors, it starred in the 1936 film Night Mail.

6115 was rebuilt in 1947 with a new tapered type 2A boiler, and was painted in LMS 1946-style black livery. It was the first of the rebuilt engines to receive smoke deflectors and the only one to run with them as an LMS engine. It was renumbered 46115 by British Railways in 1948 and was withdrawn in Jan 1966.

Scots Guardsman is one of two preserved Royal Scots, the other being LMS Royal Scot Class 6100 Royal Scot.

46115 was purchased by the West Coast Railway Company and in 2008, it was restored to main-line running standard. Her first test run from Carnforth to Hellifield was completed on 20 June 2008. The loco was then moved back into the depot at Steamtown and repainted BR Brunswick Green, appearing in this livery at the Steamtown Open Weekend on 26/27 July 2008. The loco then hauled its first railtour called 'The Settle-Carlisle Venturer' from Hellifield to Carlisle and return on 16 August 2008.

This car was loaded with aftermarket accessories inside and out including the ice filled air conditioning.

hearts′ empath ♥ brick-red ♥ brecciated jasper (aka poppy jasper) puffed in the shape of a heart-symbol was 'empathed', i.e. overdubbed & admixed with a 2nd tricolor broken - heart - festoon by means of the scanning process.

The object was scanned in the middle of the night with all lights switched off - nevertheless the 'empath' of the halogen - scanner - light glitched an interesting (but somehow embarassing) oranje-wit-blauw halo (aka the prince's flag in the Netherlands) festoon onto the grinded surface.

Obviously the macroscopic, black hematite-Schlieren became admixtures to the igneous extrusive jasper during the sublimation-process of the lava.

The Tricolour of The Netherlands is the oldest tricolour, first appearing in 1572 as the Prince's Flag in orange–white–blue. Soon the more famous red–white–blue began appearing — it is however unknown why, though many stories are known. After 1630 the red–white–blue was the most commonly seen flag. The Dutch Tricolour has inspired many flags but most notably those of Russia, India, New York City, and France, which spread the tricolour concept even further. The Flag of the Netherlands is also the only flag in the world that is adapted for some uses, when the occasion has a connection to the royal house of the Netherlands an orange ribbon is added.(wikipedia).

JASPER as a TRIGONAL  crystal-system

JASPER as a healing crystal

Brecciated Jasper Hearts@healingcrystals

The Hematite within Brecciated Jasper acts as a deflector of negativity. While it is said that Brecciated Jasper can stimulate the rise of the Kundalini, it has a tendency to add stability to this energy. It is a stone of strength and vitality and can be used to help bring mental clarity and focus to a previously scattered life. It is also used for overcoming sexual guilt or shame, and can be helpful for those who are recovering from any kind of illness. You can use a Brecciated Jasper Heart as a "worry-stone" to take advantage of its calming and nurturing properties. These Brecciated Jasper Hearts can also be used during Meditations, held in your client's hand during a session, or just to carry in your pocket.

poppy jasper @kosmix [_210810_]

Poppy Jasper is a poppy-patterned variety of orbicular jasper originating in South Africa. In medieval times, warriors often carried poppy jasper in belief it would bring them courage in the heat of oncoming battle. It belongs to the quartz group and is a brecciated jasper, composed of approximately 20% extraneous materials due to the gaps left between dry, iron enriched clay when the rock is first formed.

While poppy jasper is often multi-colored due to foreign deposits, it still is predominately red, black and gray in appearance. The black and gray often act to form a sort of background behind "blooms" of red-orange color that distinctly resemble that of a poppy plant, hence the name.

Residents of the U.S. may find this particular form of jasper in Morgan Hill, California. It is considered a rare stone and is well sought-after collectible by gem connoisseurs at a going rate of $20-30/lb.

Brecciated Jasper Puffed Heart This jasper veined with hematite is an excellent aid to keeping your feet on the ground and attaining emotional stability. It also promotes mental clarity.

Poppy aka Brecciated Jasper Metaphysically Poppy Jasper is the supreme nurturer. Brings tranquility and wholeness, protection and grounding. Aligns chakras, facilitates Shamanic journeys and dream recall. Rectifies unjust situations. Strengthens the circulatory system and is sometimes referred to as the "Stone of health". It has the qualities of enhancing organizational abilities, relaxation, and a sense of wholeness. It is occasionally used to assist when dowsing. It aligns the chakras and balances the yin-yang, physical, and emotional. It is a stone of protection, and is used in particular for protection during astral travel. It encourages attunement and communication with animals and can help with animal allergies, plus other allergies. It brings happiness and a good outlook on life and eases stress. It can help increase physical endurance and ward off dehydration. It is also a good stone for grounding oneself and is associated with the root chakra.

Jasper @s a mineral

Jasper is an opaque variety of Chalcedony occurring in all colors. It is sometimes impure, containing organic material and iron oxides. Jasper is a favorite among amateur gem cutters, for its abundance and diversity is great. Some Jasper is banded, and these banded Jaspers are also Agates. When Jasper does not exhibit interesting colors or patterns, it is known as Chert. There are many types of Jasper, and many distinct names are given to each type. Most names are only used locally, and new names are made up every year. Below is a list of many of the Jasper names seen on the market. The second list contains Jasper types that are locally named for the area they occur in.

SILPHION & ARKESILAOS

Trotz erhaltener Beschreibungen bei Theophrast u.a. (s. bes. Plin. nat. {Hehn-Schrader Kulturpflanzen (8) 112. Arkesilaos 1. Sohn Battos I. (Hdt 4, 159), König von Kyrene 599-583 (?) 2. Aresilaos II.

►     Silphium @wikipedia

Silphium (also known as silphion or laser) was a plant of the genus Ferula. Generally considered to be an extinct "giant fennel" (although some claim that the plant is really Ferula tingitana), it once formed the crux of trade from the ancient city of Cyrene for its use as a rich seasoning and as a medicine. It was so critical to the Cyrenian economy that most of their coins bore a picture of the plant.

Silphium was an important species as evidenced by the Egyptians and Knossos Minoans developing a specific glyph to represent the Silphium plant.

The valuable product was the resin (laser, laserpicium, or lasarpicium) of the plant. It was harvested in a manner similar to asafoetida, a plant with similar enough qualities to silphium that Romans, including the geographer Strabo, used the same word to describe both.

Aside from its uses in Greco-Roman cooking (as in recipes by Apicius), many medical uses were ascribed to the plant. It was said that it could be used to treat cough, sore throat, fever, indigestion, aches and pains, warts, and all kinds of maladies. Chief among its medical uses, according to Pliny the Elder, was its role as an herbal contraceptive. Given that many species in the parsley family have estrogenic properties, and some (such as wild carrot) have been found to work as an abortifacient, it is quite possible that the plant was pharmacologically active in the prevention or termination of pregnancy. Legend said that it was a gift from the god Apollo. It was used widely by most ancient Mediterranean cultures; the Romans considered it "worth its weight in denarii."

    Connection with the heart symbol

There has been some speculation about the connection between silphium and the traditional heart shape (♥). The symbol is remarkably similar to the Egyptian "heart soul" (ib). The sexual nature of that concept, combined with the widespread use of silphium in ancient Egypt for birth control, and the fact that the seeds of silphium are shaped like a heart as shown in the left illustration, leads to speculation that the character for ib may have been derived from the shape of the silphium seed.

Contemporaneous writings help tie silphium to sexuality and love, as laserpicium makes an appearance in a poem (Catullus 7) of Catullus to his lover Lesbia. As well as in Pausanias' Description of Greece in which he says "For it so happened that his maiden daughter was living in it. By the next day this maiden and all her girlish apparel had disappeared, and in the room were found images of the Dioscuri, a table, and silphium upon it."

►     The Secret of the Heart @ heartsmith

There are a few ancient symbols that recur through the ages. One of these symbols - the heart - means many things to many people. Just how did the stylized heart shape become the icon for love and the human soul? Let's work our way back in history:

The heart symbol as we know it today, was popularized in the Victorian era over a hundred years ago. They loved the romantic heart shape and embellished it in many ways; but they didn't invent it. Where did it come from?

"Silphium has left its mark in modern society in a way that has not previously been recognized. Have you ever wondered why the human heart - the repository and the embodiment of romantic love - is always drawn stylized instead of in the natural shape of the human heart organ? The answer is rooted in the ancient function of Silphium! And the connection between this artistic convention and Silphium is found in the coinage of Cyrene, which features a seed pod of the revered plant." (Emilio N Favority and Kurt Baty. The Celator, Vol 9, No.2)

Asafoetida (Pers. انگدان Angedan).

MEDICAL Apps: Asafoetida reduces the growth of indigenous microflora in the gut. fighting flu - Asafoetida was used in 1918 to fight the Spanish influenza pandemic. Scientists at the Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan report that the roots of Asafoetida produces natural antiviral drug compounds that kill the swine flu virus, H1N1. In an article published in the American Chemical Society's Journal of Natural Products, the researchers said the compounds "may serve as promising lead components for new drug development" against this type of flu. contraceptive/abortifacient - Asafoetida has also been reported to have contraceptive/abortifacient activity, and is related (and considered an inferior substitute to) the ancient Ferula species Silphium. antiepileptic - Asafoetida oleo-gum-resin has been reported to be antiepileptic in classical Unani as well as ethnobotanical literature.

HUNTING apps (bait): John C Duval reported in 1936 that the odor of asafoetida is attractive to the wolf, a matter of common knowledge, he says, along the Texas/Mexico border. It is also used as one of several possible scent baits, most notably for catfish and pike.

MAGICK apps: In Jamaica, asafoetida is traditionally applied to a baby's anterior fontanel (Jamaican patois "mole") in order to prevent spirits (Jamaican patois "duppies") from entering the baby through the fontanel. In the African-American Hoodoo tradition, asafoetida is used in magic spells as it is believed to have the power both to protect and to curse. In ceremonial magick especially from The Key of Solomon the King, it is used to protect the magus from daemonic forces and to evoke the same and bind them.

►     Did the ancient Romans use a natural herb for birth control? The Roman scholar Pliny the Elder described use of the resin "with soft wool as a pessary to promote the menstrual discharge." If taken as ancient writers claimed, silphium might have worked as a monthly morning-after pill. Other items touted as contraceptives in antiquity include wild carrot (a silphium relative also known as Queen Anne's lace), pennyroyal, and pomegranate. In small doses many of these are known to stimulate menstrual flow, just as silphium is supposed to have done.

Whether it was effective or not, silphium certainly was a popular plant. Almost impossible to cultivate, it became the main source of economic power for Cyrene, a Greek colony in what's now Libya, where it grew wild.

Nonetheless, by the end of the first century AD silphium was no more. The last pieces of this aphrodisiac plant were reputedly consumed by the dying emperor Nero: "Qualis artifex pereo!"

After silphium disappeared, asafetida was used as a replacement, imported from what are now Iran, Iraq, and Syria. Already used by the poor because it was cheaper and more plentiful than silphium, asafetida was considered inferior from both a culinary and medicinal standpoint.

EXPLANATIONS of WORDS

Schlieren (from German; singular "Schliere", meaning "streak") are optical inhomogeneities in transparent material not visible to the human eye. Schlieren physics developed out of the need to produce high-quality lenses void of these inhomogeneities. These inhomogeneities are localized differences in optical path length that cause light deviation. This light deviation is converted to shadow in a schlieren system.

"How about it, Charlie? Want some ice cream?" Chuck asked his son, a beaming smile on his face.

"Hell yeah!" his son answered back, jumping up and down with glee.

"Charlie..." the elder Brown tutted. "Don't say that word."

"But you say it all the time!" his son protested. "Before football, during football, after football... When you're arguing with mom..."

"Because I'm a grown up," Chuck deflected. "Promise me you won't say that word again."

"Daaaaaaaad..." Charlie rolled his eyes

"Charlie, promise me," Chuck said sternly.

"Ok, I promise," the boy relented.

"Good," Chuck smiled. "Now, how about that ice cream?"

"Hel-uhhhhhhh, yes, please!"

Time until Detonation: 27 minutes

Drury was thrown through one of the guest room doors, landing on the king-sized bed at the room's rear. He grabbed the table lamp, and flung it at his attacker's head, knocking the King's crown off the top of his head.

The King of Cats smiled, swinging his whip above his head, and bringing it down across the mattress; Drury rolled off the bed, hiding behind it for cover. Looking for an offensive weapon, he ripped a drawer out of the bedside table, and threw it at the King, striking his left arm, but doing little to halt his approach. Joey attempted to rush the King from behind, but the King used his momentum to fling him up in the air, and onto the floor beside Drury, followed by a knife that lodged itself in the headboard above them.

"Go on, napalm him!" Drury instructed Joey.

"Dru, I don't carry that stuff on me," he pointed out.

"Gar does," Drury said with unflinching certainty.

"And, uh, you've seen Gar, right?"

"I- fair point," Drury relented. "So, how come you're alive, Karl? Thought you'd expended your nine lives."

"Because you shot me in those catacombs?" The King chuckled. "If you shoot a man four times, they're only dead once."

"His, uh, logic is sound," Joey admitted. "Can't believe I just accepted that..."

Chuck entered the frey, holding a fire extinguisher plucked from the hallway. Firing it at Kyle's back, the foam forced him against the wall, giving Drury the opening he needed to fire his cocoon gun, sticking the King to the wall.

"And I thought I was the freak," Kyle commented, licking the substance with his elongated tongue.

"Gross," Joey rolled his eyes.

A second blast covered Kyle's mouth, preventing him from saying anything further.

"That took longer than expected," Drury admitted, wiping a string of drool off his shirt. "Should we be expecting Zodiac or Planet Master, or are we done here?"

"We're done," Chuck nodded, as the trio walked back into the hallway. "Assuming the guys grounded Krill."

"They will have," Drury assured him. "C'mon, Roman's penthouse is in the other building; We can use the overview bar to reach it."

"Drury, Julian knows that's the closest way to reach the second tower; by the time we get there, it's going to be swarming with goons; we don't have time for another fist fight," Chuck stated.

"Besides, that's still 23 flights of stairs we'd have to climb, sure there's no other way?" Joey asked.

"I suppose we could use the wingpacks, but I don't trust them in this weather," Drury stated. "What do you suggest?" he paused.

"I... might have something," Chuck smirked. "Pass me that knife, will you?" he asked.

Drury raised a confused eyebrow, but obliged, removing the King's knife from the headboard and handing it to his teammate.

"Thanks," Chuck nodded. "Won't be long. Probably. You two look after him."

He pried the window open with the blade, and clambered onto the ledge; Gotham's frigid winter weather pummeling him in the face.

Drury, turned to Kyle, and back to Joey, frowning. "Don't suppose we could play Charades?"

~-~

Chuck looked up at his target; 23 floors above him, was Sionis' Penthouse. On the opposite tower. If he could get some height, he could glide over to the other building, that he knew. But if he botched it... Well, 25 storeys was a long way to fall. Should've invested in that grappling hook... Drury always assured him it'd cost too much, that flight was the future. Well, Drury wasn't the one dangling off the side of a high rise hotel.

"I heard Nygma payed you a visit," Arthur Brown tutted, examining a framed photo of Chuck's family.

"Yeah? What about it?" Chuck frowned, removing the photo from Cluemaster's grip and placing it back on the counter face down.

"Listen, Charlie, I ask the questions," Cluemaster shrugged. "Now, what'd he want?"

"Information," Chuck said plainly.

"Hey, don't be a smartass," Cluemaster scolded him.

"No, of course not. That's your thing, right?" Chuck muttered under his breath. "He wanted me to set up a meeting. With the boss."

Cluemaster's eyes narrowed. "I wasn't told."

"Because I said no," Chuck explained. "I told him that I don't have that kinda pull. That even if I did, I kinda enjoy living."

"And then?" Cluemaster scowled.

"He left."

"What do you mean they got Kyle?" Day snapped.

"I'm telling ya boss, Walker and the Rigger kid took him out. We're getting pulverised down there," a henchman protested.

"Nevermind..." Day lied. "I want the rest of your men covering the Overview Bar, do you understand?"

"Sure, but-"

"Ahem," a second goon cleared his throat.

Day stiffened up; the approaching henchman was holding a purple cushion, and resting atop it was a comically large rotary phone. "It's for you," the goon stated with a deadpan delivery.

Day clutched the phone, and held the receiver close to his ear. "Hello?" he whispered.

"You know, I've never been too fond of calendar puns. I just don't know... They're pretty week, and they always feel a little dated. To be honest, I think their days are numbered."

~-~

"Look, I'll give you a tour!" Drury Walker said enthusiastically. "Here's the old suit; like the eyebrows? Gar hates them, but I dunno, I always thought they were pretty snazzy. Here's the cocoon gun; god, you should see it in action. Doesn't always work, but when it does? Beautiful. That's Gar over there, obviously. You've met him before. And that's Len. Say hi, guys."

Gar tilted his head at Chuck disapprovingly. Len, on the other hand, took a step forward and shook his hand firmly.

"Good to meet you," he nodded. "Loved seeing Riddler taken down a peg or two. And Lynns too, of course."

Chuck's eyes widened in recognition, as he spun around. "Oh my god! You were on Team Riddler when I-"

"When you sabotaged our kites?" Gar spat his toothpick onto the floor.

"I'm so sorry!" Chuck repeated over and over.

"I landed in a tree. Drury there had to come get me."

==Sionis Penthouse: Floor 48==

Ten, cocked his head to one side. Day was distracted; Krill and the King of Cats were gone. Now was a good a chance as any:

"Blake, I need you to pull my finger," he whispered to his captive cohort.

"This is no time for a fart joke, Reardon," Sionis warned. Li, shook his head disappointedly.

"It never is," Blake sighed.

"No, not- My prosthetics have an emergency release mechanism. If you can reach it, I'll be able to slip out these restraints."

"It... it could work," Kuttler pondered aloud.

~-~

"Kids, Drury! Kids!" Chuck slammed his hands on the desk.

"Leave off me, how was I supposed to know?" Drury gulped down a fourth glass of whiskey.

"You didn't think to, I dunno, check the guy you hired wasn't a psychopath?!" Chuck stammered.

Drury wiped his nose. "Roman was more than happy to loan him out. I thought-"

"What? That Black Mask is the benchmark for strong moral fortitude?"

"So, what!" Drury snapped.

'So what-?' Chuck mouthed in horrified disbelief.

"It's over! That Red Hood wacko got him, didn't he? He's gone."

"Yeah, just like Chancer."

"Hey! You leave the kid out of it: He's in a coma, that poor sod might never wake up!" Drury yelled, his lip trembling.

"Drury," Miranda nudged his elbow. "Tell him."

"Tell me what-?" Chuck asked, puzzled.

"I... ran a guy over. Few weeks ago. Killed him on impact."

"A civvie-?" Chuck asked, his hands shaking.

"Nah, one of ours..." Drury confessed. "A cape, I mean, not a Misfit. It was some D-Lister."

"You... you get a name?" Chuck slid down into the chair opposite him.

"Does it matter? He's fertiliser now," Drury shook his head.

...

"I met Lightning Bug. When I was-" Drury stopped himself from finishing the sentence. "It doesn't matter. It's just... he seemed like a good kid."

~-~

As Chuck scaled the side of the East Tower, his left shoe slipped off his foot; Panicking, he used the nearby flagpole to steady himself. Hanging above the Gotham Skyline, one shoe lighter, he smiled to himself. He remembered the day Charlie got his first kite... Funny the things that come to you, when you're precariously hanging from a fire escape thirty storeys up...

He had just separated from Maria, and to keep his son's spirits up, he'd taken Charlie to see Toy Story 3, just the two of them. Charlie loved the first two films; wore out the VHS replaying them over and over again.

They'd gone to the toy store afterwards, and he had picked out a white and purple kite, styled after Buzz Light-Year's jetpack. It was an off-brand thing; not an exact replica, the manufacturers must not have gotten Disney or Pixar's permission... But Charlie didn't care. He loved that purple and white kite.

He sighed. The wind in his face, and one hand on his harness, Chuck closed his eyes and let go. 'It's not flying,' he reminded himself. 'It's falling with style.'

Opening his kite harness, he leapt from the tower and glided up towards the penthouse window, tucking in his limbs as he burst through the glass, and collided with the large wooden desk positioned towards the room's rear. The purple telephone, slid off the desk and clattered to the floor.

Getting to his feet, Chuck looked around the room: "Sorry about the draught," he apologised to the captive Sionis. "And the desk."

"That's Italian maple," he stated bluntly. "Asshole."

'There's gratitude for you,' Chuck thought, as he moved towards the hostages.

Before he could reach them, however, a large wooden statue collided with his skull, knocking him to the ground.

Day dropped his weapon, and jumped onto Chuck's chest, wrapping his hands around his throat, squeezing tightly. Chuck's skin turned purple, his eyes grew puffy and swollen as Day's grip grew stronger.

"Why did you have to persist?" Day demanded. "Why?! You still don't understand, do you? We could've ruled this city, ruled this country. We could've been kings: Icons! But no. It's Drury's story, Drury's friends, Drury's mess that we always had to clean up. Holding us back. No more. No more. Don't you understand that everything I've done has been for your own good? Arkham City made you stronger, you realise that, no? Fearless will too, you know it will! The masses, will fall of course. Unshackled, they'll all kill each other. Spark a gang war. Lay siege to the GCPD, perhaps. But you; all of you? You will ascend! And the world? The world will finally know the name Julian Gregory Da-"

He was cut off, as Blake lunged on his back; Day looked over, confused, as he spotted Kuttler helping Reardon reattach his prosthetic hands. Distracted, Blake scratched his head. "Wait. Your middle name is actually Gregory? I thought you'd just made that up. Damn, your parents really didn't want to give you a chance, huh?"

Using Blake's confusion to his advantage, Day retrieved a small dagger from his sleeve, and slashed his torso. Blake slid off him, and crumbled to the ground.

"My parents?" Day asked, scowling as he reminisced. "My parents were demanding. Arrogant. Dismissive. I've talked about them before, do you remember? I doubt you would... They were Jehovah witnesses, you see. They didn't celebrate holidays, and I was expected to follow their example. So, I grew up watching my classmates and neighbors celebrate their birthdays and Christmases and Valentines year after year, while I got nothing. My first, ah, 'date' was my High School Prom- I went alone, naturally, even if I had an interest in such... things, my condition made me a grossly undesirable partner. I laced the punch with a concentrated laxative, and watched as my classmates collapsed and embarrassed themselves. The teachers thought it was food poisoning. But that thrill, I had never felt anything like it. I had to chase that high. To feel. The scars were Zsasz' handiwork, the result of an Asylum riot some years later. I used to find them rather tacky, but over time, they've grown on me."

"Then you won't mind this:" Chuck wheezed.

Still beneath him, he grabbed the wooden idol, and cracked it against Day's head. Day stumbled back, and putting his hand to his forehead, examined the fresh wound. Then he fell on his back, immobilised.

~-~

Drury scratched his forehead. "Yeah, I might've said the corn factory was a bad call," he said grimly, as he checked his watch impatiently.

Chuck looked down at the enormous bouquet of potted flowers in his hand, nodded, and lay them down at his feet.

"Hey, look on the bright side," Blake grinned. "If that corset's made of real ivy, then you absolutely dodged a bullet. Think of the rashes she must get, eh?"

Julian patted Chuck on the back, and smiled supportively. "She wasn't worth it, Charles."

~-~

Chuck sat up, rubbing his red throat, and looked over at Day. He reached into his jacket pocket and retrieved the diaxymine. Julian was defeated... He wouldn't be able to fight back, it'd be so easy to force the chemical down his throat and get his friend back. 'So easy...'

'No,' Chuck slid the bottle back into his pocket and held his head in his hands. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw the phone:

He knelt beside it, and out his mouth to the receiver. "Who is this?" he asked.

"You know... I heard there was a broken kite up for grabs..." a voice giggled down the line. "No strings attached."

The line cut out. And Chuck was left with a cold shiver running down his spine.

He’s a spoiled rich kid who isn’t all there, meet the H of Team GTHC, Haller Nihil

Name- Haller Nihil

Weapon- Ivory Wisdom (A bow which can fold down into a fan. Haller creates his own Light Arrows)

Semblance- Light manipulation (He can deflect, aim and make solid constructs from light)

Backstory- Born in the highest levels of Mistral, Haller’s family, the Nihil, are some of Remnants most affluent and culturally elite. From a young age Haller was exposed to some of the greatest actors, singers and dancers in all of remnant, aspiring to become an actor when he grew up, while also taking up archery.

As a child, he and his parents went on a walk in a cave system in the mountains of Mistral. Things went wrong when they accidently awoke a King Taijitu Grimm. While his parents fled, Haller was left behind. Facing death, Haller’s semblance of light manipulation awoke in full force, blinding the deadly Grimm, and allowing him the chance to escape the cave. However, the fierce burst of light he created affected his aura, causing it to permanently deflect all light from his body, rendering his body permanently invisible.

His parents used their wealth to acquire a completely malleable mask and gloves for Haller, allowing him to maintain some visibility while also being able to see. His dreams of acting squandered, Haller instead decided to put his notably powerful semblance to use. His parents acquired a weapon for him, and used their resources to allow him to bypass the entrance exam, and go straight to training at Haven Academy.

In training, Haller proved not to be the greatest fighter, but possessed a keen skill in using his semblance, alongside being an adept archer. Haller was grouped up with Grant Braun, Trachelia Reichenbach and Cerise Nautilus, forming Team GTHC (pronounced GTHC). Once his time at Haven was complete, Haller and the rest of Team GTHC graduated from Haven, deciding to travel across Anima, taking any jobs that cross their paths along the way.

Haller is undoubtedly the easiest to dislike out of Team GTHC. His snobbish and snarky personality leads him to be the butt of a lot of team members pranks, with his reactions being less than sporting. He can also show a lack of respect for the different backstories of his teammates, seeing Grant as an urchin underqualified to be leader, possessing a rivalry of 'oneupmanship' with Trachelia, and being at times intolerant of Cerise’s faunus nature (though she usually takes it in good stride). While his negative traits are quite visible, Haller is still a team player, showing a strong respect for the skills of his many members, and sharing a bizarre friendship with his polar-opposite Cerise.

Like all members of Team GTHC, Haller is based on a character from 1800s British fiction, in his case ‘The Invisible Man’ by HG Wells. His connections to Griffin from the story are less convoluted then most other members, namely the fact that he’s invisible and Griffin’s more maniacal tendencies translating into Haller being a bit of a pill.

My sister-in-law, Laura, has been living with us in the UK since the start of the lockdown. She's a professional triathlete looking forward to competing in races around the world. Hopefully she'll get her wish soon.

First SPW Classic gun of mine, a semi-auto shotty, with integral tube mag. In this case a standard magazine adapter is fitted, and the tube spring is locked by the switch at the front. Also features an advanced RDS on an elevated rail, thumbhole stippled grip with grip computer, and force deflecting stock to reduce muzzle climb.

Notwithstanding its luxurious equipment - two-tone paintwork, bumpers, and side deflectors - this attractive 1925 Chrysler Series B-70 roadster was far less expensive than its European competitors.

As from 1924, the make's year of birth, Chrysler was the first to equip its models with hydraulic brakes, supplied by Lockheed. During the first few years they offered a choice of models, but with only one engine version. This was a high compression 3.5 litre 6-cylinder unit with side valves and removable oil filter.

This car is on display at Autoworld, Belgium’s national motor museum, in Brussels.

~email from a friend, the morning after the night before

You Beach!!!

So Baju was trying to hit on you, was he, and you sacrificed my honour and body by deflecting him towards me!?

And lying at the same time!? How could you, you shameless heartless hussy!?

Call yourself a friend.....

AND you forgot the cereal? Ha!

Actually darling I was totally stuffed to the gunnels/gunwales (delete according to preference), and couldn't have managed the cereal as well, and not even a wafffeur thin mint!

So, in conclusion, I think only red spanking or whipping marks are appropriate for the under chef, "because the Iady LOVES a milky lay".

Hi Julie (and Kat),

Delighted to have delivered much merriment, and my lawyer is at this very moment creating the contract for you to have the rights to my bon mots and to facilitate the payment of royalties by the aforementioned person (i.e. you!).

A question for you Dear Heart....

Did I by any chance leave a couple of small makeup glass dispensers in one of your rooms, as I haven't seen my Lacura creams, for face and eyes, since I visited you?

Your Fellow Cougar,

F-35C Lightning II carrier variant aircraft CF-2 is performing Jet Blast Deflector (JBD) tests at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey.

Maunsell S15 No. 847 running minus its smoke deflectors at Sharpthorne on the Bluebell Railway. The first batch of Maunsell S15s would have appeared in this condition when first built, however by the time No.847 was constructed in 1936 as the last of the second batch, the deflector plates had been introduced and this locomotive was fitted with them from new.

This evening's sunset deflected to the south. What do we call that?

Jason bursts through the window and shoots and Batman. Batman deflects with his cape. Jason punches Joker in the face and he knocks him out. Batman looks back up again and he sees Jason standing before a knocked out Joker, with his guns pointed at him.

BM: "Jason..."

RH: "Were you too afraid to come and look for me yourself? You had to send your favourite didn't you?"

BM: "I did not send Dick. We had an argument and he went out on his own."

RH: "Oeh, so I made you and your number one son fight, did I?"

BM: "Dick is not number one. I love you both equally!"

RH: "Then why, in God's name, is HE still alive!"

BM: "Because, if we go down that path-"

RH: "You won't come back from it, I know. Dick told me the exact same thing. You two really are the same."

BM: "Don't you see a pattern here? When I say that, and your brother says that? You must know it's true."

RH: "He's not my brother! And I'm not talking about Scarecrow, Riddler, Penguin or Two-Face! I'm talking about him! Just him... He took me away from you. I can't let him take anyone from anyone else. I need to do this."

BM: "Jason! I know I should've killed him. I've been thinking about it all the time. The whole family has. But why do you think we didn't?"

RH: "Because you don't have the balls to kill."

BM: "Because I don't want to become like him. I don't want to become a mentally ill murderer who only does what he does because it's funny. That's why I can't go down that path, I just can't, because I'm afraid I'll become just like him. That's why I don't want you to do it either."

RH: "....You know what. I'll let it slide this time. I understand your point, but he does NOT deserve to live."

BM: "I know, he'll rot away in Arkham, for everything he has done."

RH: "I'm keeping you on that one."

BM: "I understand."

Jason starts to leave.

BM: "Jason."

RH: "Yeah?"

Bruce throws a comlink at him. Jason catches it.

BM: "When you ever need us, don't be afraid to ask for it."

Jason looks at the comlink and than looks back at Bruce.

RH: "I will. Is this a two way line?"

BM: "Yeah, why?"

RH: "Remember the times in the manor, when I would be afraid of the thunder and you would talk me to sleep?"

BM: "Yeah?"

RH: "I'm still afraid of thunder."

Batman looks at Jason and he smiles.

RH: "When you ever need extra help fighting these psycho's, don't be afraid to call either. And don't worry, I'll use rubber bullets."

BM: "I will. Have a good night Jason."

RH: "In the field it's Red Hood, Batsy."

Jason jumps out of the window. Batman stands over the Joker. He picks up the Joker and smacks him in the face so he would wake up.

Jkr: "Ouch! Wuh- what happened?"

BM: "You got beaten on, that's what happened."

Jkr: "Awh crap, really?"

BM: "Just keep moving."
