La Défense is Europe's largest purpose-built business district, covering 560 hectares (1,400 acres), for 180,000 daily workers,[1] with 72 glass and steel buildings (of which 20 are completed skyscrapers, out of 24 in the Paris region), and 3,500,000 square metres (38,000,000 sq ft) of office space. Around its Grande Arche and esplanade ("le Parvis"), La Défense contains many of the Paris urban area's tallest high-rises.
La Défense is named after the statue La Défense de Paris by Louis-Ernest Barrias, which was erected in 1883 to commemorate the soldiers who had defended Paris during the Franco-Prussian War.

Sundance will typically start his marathon nap with all appendages tucked in his bed. However, if one comes near a back paw will pop out and extend apparently an effort to prevent his being disturbed.

Old flood valves along the Rock River near Hillsdale,IL. The Rock floods the area annually,but this year has proved to be especially bad. And with 2-4" more rain expected in the area this week,there is no end in sight. These release valves are in many spots along the river,most dump into irrigation ditches.No need for irrigation this year so far!

The La Defense office complex is well integrated with the larger urban plan. Both its height and the entrances into the courtyards tie in with the larger site. The external facade reflects the urban context, while the interior facades of the courtyards have been designed with the office tenants in mind. These facades are clad with glass panels with an integrated multicoloured foil. The
colour reflected changes with the time of day and the angle of incident sunlight, brightening the courtyards.
